Da Emma is a hidden Italian gem located right in downtown Montreal. Since the restaurant itself is located below street level, many people pass by this little trattoria every day without realizing it. The only sign for it is painted on a nearby brick wall in black and white and consists entirely of a downward pointing arrow and the word "Emma". It is because it is a little hard to find that diners feel like they are in on a secret not everyone knows about.Inside, Da Emma goes with a sleek and modern style complete with dark wood tones and white tablecloths. The menu consists of both classic and modern Italian plates. Some of the intricate plates that the kitchen puts out include fettucini with porcini mushroom and truffle, veal breast in rosemary sauce, four cheese tortellini in alfredo sauce and house made meatballs in marinara.

My husband and I were here on our 10 year wedding anniversary 17 years ago. We met Emma in her kitchen. We just visited again in a trip with our grown sons. Food and ambiance were incredible again. Definitely recommend.

Nous y allions pour manger la fameuse lasagne et malheureusement elle était non disponible ce soir là. Mais malgré tout, les autres choix que nous avons pris étaient excellents!!! Vin excellent et service impeccable.

DaEmma is where tradition meets excellence. It’s a gem. The food is homey n soulful n reminds you of Italy. The service was fantastic! Thank you!!

Unfortunately, our meal was average (service below average). We were excited given the restaurant's reviews and history. The Host literally was on the phone, never greeted us, just walked and motioned us to our table and dropped the menus there, and kept going. Our server was not very friendly and really only appeared to chat when we got the bill. Other staff was nice and attentive backing him up. Meatballs were good, and bread was fresh. Red sauce pasta tasted basic and needed flavor. The portobello pasta needed more sauce and flavor. Veal was overdone. Piglet was nice but very greasy. I will not return or recommend. There are too many good restaurants with staff who want you there. Especially for 100 a head.

Overall a good experience, however, I found a few details that could be use improving. First, the olive oil that was served with our bread tasted rancid. Second, the arugula salad was over dressed, and drenched in oil. Third, our waiter was not checking in with us, and we had to flag him to get his attention. Other than that, a nice evening.
