Crawford & Son Ratings and Reviews
Phenomenal food - incredibly fresh and flavorful. The yellowtail crudo and turnip salad were delicious. The roast chicken was flat out one of the best I’ve had, and then the dessert (chocolate bar) lived up to the hype.
Top notch service.
Only minor complaint - you are close to other folks so just be prepared to hear 30-somethings complains about their husbands, kids, jobs, etc. LoL.
But this is a top 3 restaurant in Raleigh.
We have never been disappointed with our meal from Crawford & Son! Each bite is an adventure and the menu often challenges you to try something new! Chef Scott has created an amazing environment and has a superb staff! Erin was our waitress and she absolutely nailed it!
Finally got the opportunity to try Crawford and Son after hearing so many great things. My husband and are the ultimate foodies. If you're looking to get adventurous with food in a cozy yet upscale atmosphere- you must try Crawford and Son. Great food! Great atmosphere! Great service!
First visit, celebrating a family birthday. It was perfect! Amazed how well orchestrated the restaurant team operates. From the hostess - she was a delight - so personable, to our primary waitress - perfect timing, to the many others who brought our food, refilled our water glasses, welcomed us and wished us a wonderful evening. This is without a doubt one of the very best experiences I've had at a local restaurant. Of course the food was outstanding. Wine/beverage list just right. Dessert - the cinnamon ice cream was perfect for sharing with our table.
We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of dining out at Crawford and Son. Our waiter was knowledgeable, patient (we couldn’t decide!) and attentive. The food was so well prepared and while it can seem too eclectic when reading the menu, it really, really works. We’ve been here twice and can’t wait to go back.
It was unfortunate that we were seated 45 mins late for our reservation, because otherwise I would be leaving a very different review. The food at Crawford & Son is fantastic. Probably some of the best food in Raleigh. But when they run out of two of the 3 dishes you wanted to try, likely because we were the next to last table from being seated to late...it's hard to leave as positive of a review. I love the seasonal menu, and while their menu is a bit pork heavy for a non pork eater, they were pretty flexible with options. We were offered free (normally $6) bread for being patient for our wait...but upon initial arrival they asked us to have drinks at the bar next door to them, rather then being able to wait for our table at the restaurant. The whole experience was really tarnished after that. When we finally were seated and had our free $6 bread, they ran out of their specials and an appetizer, but they were kinda enough to give us another appetizer on the house. I think if we caught them on a better night (granted it was a Wednesday lol) it may have been a much different experience.
This was our second time dining here. We had reservations and were seated right on time. Our waiter was fantastic! He provided excellent information about the items on the menu and was very prompt and attentive without suffocating us. We had the rabbit appetizer and it was melt in your mouth delicious! Loved the choice of ingredients. Would like to see that one on the menu often. Our entrees, beef cheeks and venison meatloaf arrived in a timely fashion. The meatloaf was good, but it was a very large portion and somewhat dense, so I had plenty for left overs. My hubby had the beef cheeks and they were beyond tasty. Out of the two, I would say his entree was better than mine. Dessert was the olive oil cake. I was a little nervous about how it would taste given the description, but it was just as wonderful as everything else we had. Definitely something different to try! This is by far one of the best eating establishments in Raleigh. Truly a gustatory experience not to be missed. Will be back!
Crawford and Son never disappoints.
The menu is small , changes per what is available seasonally , yet is always unique, tasty and a treat. Our table had the flounder, beef cheeks and chicken as well as the octopus salad ( how does he do this with out getting rubbery or too chewy ? ) All were declared superb.
Erin was her usual profession and personal helpful self, answered our questions succinctly and accurately to assist us in our decisions for wine and entrees. The whole staff is just well trained and good at what they do.
Normally the noise level can be troublesome for casual conversation, tonight just prior to Thanksgiving, the restaurant was busy yet the noise level was tolerable, not too many of the loud talkers out tonight.
Everything about our meal was outstanding. You can tell how much attention Scott pays to the quality of ingredients he puts into his dishes. Our only complaint was the noise level. I think the music was a bit too loud for the acoustics + general chatter coming from the guests.
Beautiful dining room - not stuffy, but more modern and handsome, with great lighting and attention to detail. The food is clearly some of the best in the area. No nonsense, incredible/local ingredients, and highly-skilled/sophisticated arrangement of flavors. Menu was well-edited but diverse enough to accommodate both a special occasion or a casual weeknight dinner. Service was perfect - unobtrusive, knowledgeable, authentic and warm. Desserts were easily some of the best I've had in this area and were comparable to those of notable restaurants in metropolitan areas. We ordered several mocktails and they were all inspired, well-balanced and memorable. Terrific experience and a true dining gem for the area. The chef-owner is also doing some admirable advocacy work around connecting individuals who struggle with addiction to assistance and resources. Great stuff, all around. I wouldn't hesitate a moment to come back to explore more of the menu.
My wife and I went to Crawford & Son for a date night and had an incredible time. The atmosphere was good and the food was amazing. We had the yellowtail crudo as an appetizer then split the beef cheeks and corn pudding as entrees. For dessert we had the olive oil cake. All four dishes were delicious. Our server was friendly and fun to talk to. We definitely recommend this place and would go back again.
I was so looking forward to dining at Crawford & Son for my anniversary. The tables are very tightly spaced- not a place for private conversation. The appetizer was great but my entree was so overcooked that it was inedible. I took a bite of the chicken and it ruined my appetite and I felt sick for the rest of the evening.
