Coya Peruvian Secret
Everything from appetizer to dessert was fantastic. A first time experience for everyone in our party and we all we extremely happy with the experience!
One of the best spots in San Diego for Outstanding food.
We made a reservation on open table, and when we arrived the hostess said they had no tables available, and they would not honor a reservation made via the app. She said they forgot to turn off their availability on the app.
The seafood throughout our dishes was so amazingly fresh. Recommend adding the hearts of palm to the ceviche, it makes for a sensational bite. Unfortunately the Catch of The Day which was Mahi Mahi was on the dry side. My partner ordered it and it came in a pool of butter with otherwise flavorless quinoa on the side. The dry mahi was present in my dish as well, but I really enjoyed there rest of the seafood in the Macho, especially the giant prawn and mussels. OH, there is no liquor here and the sangria was on the weak side.
Service was way too slow
Delicious. Great service but it does take some time.
This restaurant is delicious we have eaten there before. Unfortunately we left since we didn’t feel they were being Covid safe. The chef and lady inside preparing drinks were not wearing masks.
One of my favorite restaurants in San Diego was sold and I was worried to go. The former owners had this place down pat. Great service, food, and the ambiance was casual and nice. The good news is the new owners seem to have inherited the same recipes. Everything seemed in place and good like before. Hugely relieved.
Good food ... bad service. Didn’t feel welcome, the girl server didn’t very seem happy when we told her we are also ready to order, when she asked for our drinks (after almost 20 minutes). We were with hungry kids and to see other people who just got there , getting served first , can be extremely annoying. They never check how we’re doing and while the food is good, wouldn’t come back here. Sometimes first impressions do last.
Service was friendly but slow. Bathroom was unavailable. Food tasted very good. Portions were generous. Sangria was tasty
Food was ok. Apps were like warm and a bit cheery w what seemed like sand grains.
Food is fantastic. This is truly a Peruvian Secret, and a must try! I highly recommend and doubt you will be disappointed.
Everything was excellent. Wonderful blend of flavors on all the dishes
The food here is EXCELLENT. We return here when we visit Del Mar everytime. We have never been disappointed. Presentation of food is wonderful. The taste is fantastic. It is consistently the best.
The food was good, but the service was excellent. Good service, so long as everything else is up to par, always makes for a good experience for me.
Food was very good but took just under an hour to arrive at our table. COVID-19 specific comments: our table was very much in the center of the terrace, next to the waiting area. Customers had little other option other than to congregate close to us while nobody was wearing masks. We asked for a different table (3 others seemed open but we got rejected, tables were already reserved) Waiter was "wearing a mask" but under his chin not covering mouth or nose. So probably not very effective. Maybe I'm just too spooked about this whole COVID situation and places slowly opening again, both place and customer may need sometime to adapt. It's a nice place with good food but for reasons as mentioned above probably not coming back for a while until the whole COVID situation improves.
Lovely place! Good food and friendly staff
Very disappointed... was looking forward to coming here for so long. The service was wonderful, knowledgeable friendly staff but the food was so disappointing. No flavor, very dry, not worth the price that's for sure.
Such amazing flavors, and great customer service! This is the first restaurant after the Lockdown has been lifted, and cannot have been more pleased!
Great restaurant! Menu was great. Although sitting is limited I would recommend coming here.
It was a fun valentines dinner!
Don’t understand why they have availability on open table and then to come and find out that they couldn’t seat us because the restaurant was over booked.
The first thing to note is that, although they offer an "inside" dining option, all of the tables are outdoors. A few of them are behind a wall, which undoubtedly shields diners from some of the breeze. They have a very good vegetarian menu. Service was excellent, prices a bit high for what we got and the music was too loud. The quatro leches is a must - totally fabulous!
Wish I had known the only seating was outside. There were heaters but it was a cold night and didn’t bring a jacket. Later on they brought out blankets to other tables. The food was excellent. It is a bit cramped but enjoyable.
This was my second time here and once again was extremely happy with everything. Seating was easy and comfortable, the wine menu is while not huge, offered plenty to choose from, the food always delivers at the highest level and I was almost too full to order dessert - but only almost.... and I was so happy I did, delicious!!
Overall I would recommend this place to anyone but please don't everyone go at once - I still want to be able to get a table once in a while!! Cheers~
Always my favorite neighborhood restaurant.
Great spot! Amazing food and service. The only downside is they only have outdoor seating but they keep it warm.
A new experience with Peruvian food. Flavors were good and not spicy. Will likely go back on our next trip to the area.
The food is quite good and the ambiance is very nice. The prices are a bit high (one cookie is $4 for desert) but it's such a nice spot that it's well worth a visit.
My favorite! Get the Ravioli- best ever.
Great neighborhood restaurant.
This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant.
Ravioli is amazing!
Such tasty food with a pretty presentation in a weet, intimate setting.
Female waitress was not wearing a mask and when I asked her to she said ok put it on for a few mins and took it off. She is exposing customers to COVID. That is not ok!!
The secret part is this is not Peruvian food. The scallop was 1/4 inch and the food was worse than eating at a cafeteria. For 100 dollars could have gone to McDonald's instead. Shameful place and don't go. I had a Peru guest with me and what an embarrassment. Would like a refund.
Seemed like they weren’t ready to be open when we were seated for our 5:30 reservation. Four tables sat at once and there was one server/greeter. Drinks and apps were slow. Most bizarre was that there was a pleasant station playing low music - something like an Eddie Vetter album - when we arrived. Then the kitchen turned their music up - something more authentic Latin-American - so we had to listen to both. When I asked the server to have one turned off, he just turned up the music for the dining room to a level no longer pleasant, and we could still hear both. I left with a headache.
The food was very tasty. The kitchen is as good as it has always been but the new ‘front-of-house’ has some work to do or they will fail.
Not impressed with the food. Looks very appealing on the plate, but the taste is 5/10 if I were to rate. Decent size plates for $24-$25, Mimosa cocktail was extremely sour, I asked for something sweeter or a replacement, but they didnt have anything else and didnt want to take it back.
I loved it, the ambiance, the food and the service all were excellent, even though we sit at the patio, it was very noisy, and it was a little pricey, but the overall value to what you get still was very good. I do recommend everybody to try and get the Peruvian experience, the food was really superb.
I was really looking forward to going here and it was great.
Second time dining here and both time, the food is amazing. The place has mostly outdoor seating, a little tight but cozy. Although we were seated by Camino Del Mar, we did not notice the traffic noise. It was after sunset and traffic was minimal. Cafe Secret is the secret spot to go for great dining in causal mode.. but remember to make reservation :)
