Everything about Cowboy Star is done professionally and with high quality. My guests all had a great experience, too and the food selections were very good. We are coming regularly now and know we will get great service, excellent food and a great experience.
Excellent service and food!
First time at this restaurant and absolutely loved it. Our waiter was amazing and the food great. We sat at the counter watching the food being made and distributed and everything looked amazing! Best old fashion, and the wine list good! Will be back soon! Pricey but worth every penny!
We celebrated a birthday at Cowboy Star. Every aspect of our time there was outstanding! The food and service were exceptional. Pricey but OH, SO WORTH IT! Steaks were fabulous! Scallops were as well. Dessert was delicious. All in all, a great time had by all. Can hardly wait to go back.
Wife date. Best place ever
An amazing dining experience. We sat at the chef's counter, which allowed us to watch the kitchen staff create perfection. It was a very cool and interesting vantage point. Food was VERY good. We will definitely be back!
ell let's see. Went here last night for my Girlfriends Birthday. Pretty high end stuff. I don't regularly attend a place this expensive. But had heard good things and we were celebrating.
For the price we paid and it was not worth it.
1. As we were enjoying our conversation and wine and discussing weather or not to get the $110 dollar steak for the Birthday girl. Our server pretty much kept coming by telling us we "needed" to order soon. As not to delay the service.. Felt rushed. It's a big decision .
2. The guy brings me the WRONG Steak! I asked for dry aged ribeye, no bone. And I got bone in ribeye.. apparently it was the more expensive steak, so I just acted like it was a free upgrade. But let's be honest. How do you mess that up? . That's top of the line service. You don't make mistakes like that. It's not outback.. lol. So even though the meat was an "upgrade." And I wasn't charged extra. With the bone in. The meat tends to be a bit more rare. So my mid rare steak was pretty red and cold by the bone area.. I wasn't into complaints as it was her Birthday and all about her. She loved her $110 dollar steak.
3. As we closed out and finished our glass of wine. I saw a server light a candle and bring over a dessert of some kind.... right past us to another table. Where the couple then took nice birthday photos. We got nothing! Granted we didn't ask for desert. Nor did we have room for it. But I think that it would have been a nice touch exspecially after ordering the wrong steak! .
I would not return. Not quality service for the price you pay. I was a server in my past and currently work in a profession that caters to the super rich, and so does my Girlfriend in fact she has worked dinner Service on private Super yachts all over the world, for billionaires. So we understand high standards. And had expectations.
We left satisfied, but would not waste my time or money there again.
The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and the chefs were incredibly talented and creative . Gourmet to the max!
One of my favorites. Cowboy Star never disappoints. Great cocktails and steaks.
Overall pleased with Cstar we have come a few times... we were seated with drinks within 10 min, but didn’t place our appetizer orders for half an hour.... they didn’t acknowledge our anniversary that we mentioned, but food was great. Steaks were a little overdone, but usually are perfect. Mac n cheese is always my absolute favorite here as well as the ravioli and Brussels. Do yourself a favor and get the brown butter cake...it’s seriously the best dessert and I hope it sticks around:)
One of the best pork chops we have ever eaten. Presentation was unbelievable - picture perfect and delicious.
Outstanding dinner, service and atmosphere with an eclectic decor.
Always great food great drinks and great service
The bison burger is awesome to me , steak tartar my wife favorite
Cowboy Star lives up to the hype! Everything we had was top notch, but that steak tartare was above and beyond. Obviously the steaks were perfection as well. The staff was very nice and helpful, and never rushed us. They had good recommendations and even were able to add on scallops to a steak (highly recommend). It's definitely more expensive, but worth the splurge every once in a while!
Jeremy was out waiter and we were delightfully impressed by his suggestions! Must have the chocolate chip bread pudding! Steak was ON point and so were the sides!
Amazing as always! Love the warm service, delicious food and cozy atmosphere
Came to Cowboy Star for my B-day dinner with my wife after some good reviews from people that we know. We had reservations at 8pm was seating within 5 mins of getting there. Received a menu that wish a "Happy Birthday" on the top which was nice. Started off with a Lobster Bisque & Wedge Salad for our appetizers which was really good. I settled on a Dry-Aged Bone-in Ribeye (medium) which come with mash potatoes & broccolini , my wife ordered the Hudson Valley Duck and we ordered the Mac & Cheese for the side. The entrees arrived in ample time after we finished our appetizer. My steak was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, my wife's entree was also very good but was kinda small for a $42 dish. I'm not a big Mac & Cheese fan but this was honestly the best Mac & Cheese I ever had. For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding and a double espresso, the dessert arrived with a "Happy Birthday" message in chocolate sauce but apparently they don't comp B-day desserts and they also forgot my espresso which they did charge me for but removed from the bill once I pointed out that I didn't receive it and offered to bring it to me free of charge. Overall the food was delicious and would come back for a special occasion even though the service after the food came was a little lacking.
It was a very good restaurant that I have been to in San Diego. In spite of being a little bit expensive, it is worth of visiting and tasting.
Chef Victor has been there since the beginning and it's obvious that he's the reason for the success. Jamie made excellent bread!
The service and the food were outstanding! I can’t wait to go back again soon 😀
We were a party of 2 and were seated at the counter, which has the complete menu. This was our first time and it was an enjoyable experience from the time we were greeted by the hostess, seated, served and payment - it all went well. After being seated we were greeted by our Server Sean, we had Champagne to start the evening. For food we shared the Porterhouse for two which did not disappoint, it was prepared appropriately and it was sooooooo tasty. This restaurant offers a complete meal included are a couple of sides that come with the meal - nice touch vs. other restaurants of similar caliber where these items would be alacarte. We didn’t have dessert however the staff did provide a small plate to help us celebrate a birthday. I would certainly return for another round at this restaurant.
The Brussels sprouts were horrible, the lobster bisque was cold and horrible. The prime was decent but not the best. Overall the food was OK but not worth $250z
We have been here several times. This time was really unfortunate. We came for our anniversary, of which we made the restaurant aware ahead of time. Our requested table was not available. We were sat at a horrible tiny booth in a corner. I have no idea who our waiter was, because about 5 different people sat things on our table, with no real special attention. This was our anniversary, for $200.... our experience was nothing special.
I only get out to San Diego once a year or so but I think this restaurant will be going on my regular visit list. The food was phenomenal, the drinks were tasty and creative, and the service was unparalleled. Every single member of the staff was friendly and helpful. It truly was an experience to remember!
Loved everything about Cowboy Star. The food, from the bread serving, to the lobster bisque, to my wife's risotto, to my ribeye were outstanding. The cocktails were superb. If I was to have a criticism I'd say the timing was a bit off. We were served our cocktails, and right after got our bisque, then after that we received an amuse-bouche, which was backwards. I would have liked to have time to drink some of the cocktail before receiving the amuse-bouche (before the bisque). Still and all, the night was wonderful with good food and atmosphere. I'd go back in a heartbeat!
Our DIego dinner was wonderful. We celebrated three birthdays between the four of us. Most importantly the steaks were the reason we came and they were amazing.
Phenomenal experience. Started off the meal with a delicious Amuse-bouches. We got the steak tartare and oysters for our appetizers. The tartare was prepared perfectly and all the flavors worked harmoniously together. The oysters were fresh and the sauces complemented them well. I had the filet mignon medium rare and my boyfriend got the bone-out dry-aged rib eye medium. Steaks were cooked correctly and the green beans and mashed potatoes were great with the steaks. We also ordered the bone marrow, Mac and Cheese, Béarnaise, and horseradish sauce. I definitely recommend the Mac and cheese. Dessert was the chocolate cake and it was perfect for sharing. Absolutely love this place.
My experience at Cowboy Star was exceptional. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. They serve some of the best steak tartare that I have tasted. The dry-aged ribeye was worth the price. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
They forgot it was for my brothers birthday and the waiter felt a bit disconnected. But the food more than made up for the so so service.
Exceptional ( the best steak in San Diego) steak, beautiful restaurant!
Everything was delicious. It was a good choice. We will be back!
The food was exceptional! I ordered the Wagyu Skirt Steak and it came perfectly cooked! Very nice plating and combination of sides made for an awesome meal. Food is only one important aspect of the dining experience, the next is service. My waiter was very attentive throughout the dinner and made very educated suggestions for drinks and sides to pair with my meal. Not only himself but other waiters that brought different dishes too us would make their suggestions as well. Lastly, the restaurant for being as open as it is, was very quiet. The modern mixed with rustic design and decor was very inviting and pleasant to be in. All in all I give it five stars, the combination of food, service and ambiance was more than I had hoped for!
I would like to express a apology to the manager and staff for one of my guests for dinner that night. He ordered a $65 steak that he felt was over cooked. The manager politely cooked a fresh steak and he still wasn’t satisfied and asked for it to be removed from the bill. I was so embarrassed!! Obviously he didn’t know what he wanted and was intoxicated. Needless to say I will never go to dinner with him again. Me and my husband will definitely be back!
Love this place! Great food and awesome service all the time! Steak tartare is my favorite and wagyu skirt steak is the best.
Our staff messed up the reservation, their staff made it work! I could not have asked for a better Birthday dinner!
Excellent service, most delicious steak I’ve ever had, lovely charcuterie and cheese board! If you like an incredible steak, this is the place for you in San Diego.
My boyfriend and I dined here for a special occasion a few weeks ago. Jeremy our server made this experience very memorable. He’s incredibly professional and I suggest anyone who is looking for a pleasant dining experience should request him.
Amazing food and a beautiful evening with the love of my life
This was the first time we had been to Cowboy Star. We went to celebrate a very special occasion and were not disappointed. From the atmosphere when we arrived to the excellent food and very attentive service, it was a dining experience like no other. I would enjoy going back, but the prices are a bit out of my range for anything but a super special occasion like this was. Thanks for making it so memorable! :)
