The food was good but very expensive for the quantity and content. Lighting was too bright as well. the cocktail and wines were priced well and excellent tasting.
We stayed at the Hotel Eleo And did not want to leave. Is there experience very pleasant
Definitely a hidden gem!
I was not very impressed with the food and the service, normally when I go to a restaurant in which the prices are high I will expect outstanding quality of food and service.
This was not the case.
Really wanted to love it. Went on Christmas Day. They brought us brunch menu and I ordered bottomless Mimosas. The servers says I will only have 15 minutes to have bottomless as brunch ends in 15 minutes. Hmmm. Ok. We had appetizers 2 drinks and 2 entrees and it was $115. I don’t mind paying for great food, but for 1 Steak Frites(very delicious and tender) and a club sandwich I think is a bit much. Nothing pretty or upscale feeling. Just plastic chairs on a patio. Great potential both there are too many great places to dine in Gainesville to return here.
Food was overdone and bland, servers were not very attentive.
An event weekend and hotel doning was not properly staffed. Ran out of coffee at a 9:30 breakfast. 45 min wait time
Thanksgiving at a hotel restaurant? Covey was the only place open in this geographic area - so we nervously booked it. We were SO pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly, professional, energetic and patient (sadly a wreck on the interstate made us late - very late - but the staff never made us feel like that was an imposition). The food was SO flavorful. No throwaway items - everything from cranberry sauce to collard greens to the turkey (white meat with delicious shredded dark meat on top) to the gravy and dressing - were thoughtful and delish! Portion sizes were just right too. We left with full tummies and smiles on our faces.
This might be the best kept secret in Gainesville. Covey Kitchen + Cocktails is a cozy, contemporary hotel bar and restaurant in the Eleo, a University of Florida-run boutique hotel, near the medical complex. The large, centerpiece bar is sports-friendly, with two large screens, but the real star of the show is the food. The menu has something interesting for everybody, but we settled on the charcuterie board (honeycomb!), a well-dressed Caesar and the crispy and savory spicy pork chop schnitzel. Shout out to Charlie Keller, executive chef, for his inspired choices on the menu and its novel execution.
Get the crunchy cauliflower app, or the boa bun. Salmon entree was delish, and my friend enjoyed the scallop, although scallops always seem overpriced. Wait staff was kind.
Great place and hotel along with the service!!!
Third time here. The cauliflower app is a standout.
Short ribs were tender and tasty. The place was really loud this time which was unusual but service for the most part was on point.
They do really need to get a espresso cappuccino machine bc the coffee is a big miss.
We were staying at the Eleo Hotel and this is their restaurant nice seating outside overlooking some fountains and Shands Hospital buildings. . Food was good, service was okay. I had a glass of wine and the pour looked very light for what they charged. Would eat there again if we stay at the hotel.
The cocktails and food were delicious; Interesting selections and well cooked. The atmosphere is a bit weird, almost like a sci-fi movie set.The dining room is spacious, comfortable and quiet. The service was amateurish.
Great place. Highly recommend. The food was very good and the service and atmosphere were outstanding. Definitely try this place. We will definitely go there again on a future trip to Gainesville.
Located in Hotel Eleo in Gainesville about a mile to football stadium. Valet parking available. This restaurant is nice, all glass windows looking over pond and fountain behind hotel. Outdoor seating available. Full bar, decent wine list, craft beers etc… available. Food and service are excellent. I had a great piece of Salmon cooked perfect. Dining companions had a burger that was delicious and well presented and cooked and steak frites delicious and again cooked just right. All dishes seasoned nicely and sides were very good. We started with Scottish deviled eggs, good not great, and pork belly bao which was very good!
Highly recommend this restaurant. Clean and comfortable with a menu to make everyone happy. Next visit I want to stay at this hotel as it looks like a good one.
Coming to town for UF Hoco, and found this on Open Table. Located in a beautiful hotel near the med center, it was easy to valet a d go right to the host. We were seated immediately inside. There was outside seating which looked nice too. Cocktails and dinner were good. Four adults split the cauliflower appetizer, which was plenty big for all of us. We had the scallops, short ribs and mahi. All were very good with plenty of food. We would definitely go back!
In Gainesville for parents weekend and was able to secure a last minute reservation. Weather was nice enough to sit outside on the patio. Service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly. Food was good and pricing was reasonable for a hotel restaurant. Great relaxing location. Valet parking is complimentary.
Went for lunch and ate outside. Our server was very friendly and timely. We had the best cocktails and the food was fresh and delicious. I would definitely visit again.
Food and drinks are very good. We’ve been 4 times now and while servers are all pleasant and friendly, service is always slooooooow.
Service and food was amazing
This restaurant relies on being a tourist trap instead of offering quality service or great food and beverage. They dismiss their clientele without a thought knowing that each game day weekend will bring droves of fans that will inevitably stay in the hotel and require room service or a bite to eat out of convenience. It's also evident that Covey makes no effort to honor reservations.
Upon arrival the hotel valet tried to discourage us from even entering, saying the restaurant was no longer serving food (this should have been a red flag from the start); when we said we had dinner reservations he quickly doubled-back and said we were OK to enter. At hostess check we waited another 15-20 minutes beyond reservation time for our table, and about 5 minutes after seating our server handed us menus and said the kitchen was backed up and could not accept any food orders for the time being, but he would 'keep us posted' if anything changed. Um, what? How is this acceptable, and why weren't we informed this by the hostess so we could potentially make other arrangements? After 15 minutes or so without another visit/update from the server, we decided to leave and attempt to find somewhere else to dine (no easy task without reservations on a game weekend, but it was clear we may not be eating at all if we stayed here).
I called later to speak with management about my experience but received no reply or callback. A few ways Covey could have handled the situation could be to 1) only accept reservation as to not get overwhelmed, 2) don't accept any reservations to avoid upset when reservations can't be honored or served food, 3) offer a complimentary appetizer and/or cocktail that can be supplied by the kitchen quickly to hold guests over until the rush subsides. Covey did no such thing and could not be bothered to even return a phone call, so it's clear that they don't care about serving their customers or having repeat business.
Bottom line = AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!!
This is a great place to get together with friends or family, especially on a game day weekend. Expect a lively, fun, and fun-loving crowd. The staff is hard-working, friendly, and do everything to please their patrons!!! We’ll be back!!!
Great little brunch spot. Hotel restaurant prices but nice to see some new non chain places in Gainesville.
We have been twice for breakfast. It was fabulous!
The food was fantastic! The scallops and risotto prepared perfectly. The Jalapeño Muddle (substituted silver tequila) was exceptional. Service and staff very friendly and attentive.
Great place, awesome food and service. A bit on the pricey side, but it is worth it. Be mindful that depending on where u sit at the bar, you can hear the expediter calling out the orders and the kitchen clearly.
My guest had an allergy to MSG. He asked them 3 times if there food had this ingredient. They said no each time (waiter, manager, & chef). My guest had an MSG reaction all night. It’s a rare issue but still a concern. The restaurant is not aware of what is in there food.
I can only give this restaurant one star and that is because I can’t give it a zero. I had reservations and yet waited at host stand 10 minutes before a host arrived to tell my party they had no workers so wait to sit would be 30 minutes. The restaurant was empty but obviously they had staffing issues which would be understandable if they didn’t accept my reservation
It’s also in a hotel lobby next to hospital and no parking
We dined here before my daughter’s graduation. It was the perfect place to have a wonderful celebratory meal. Fun drink concoctions, unique apps, and insanely good entrees. Our server was fun & knowledgeable. All around a fabulous experience!
Amazing food! We had the fried cauliflower, wings, and cesar salad to start. The cauliflower portion was HUGE and VERY good. For dinner we had the burger, the steak frites, and the salmon. All were delicious (sorry, too hungry to take pictures)! Even better than the food, were the cocktails- yummy! Service was friendly, accommodating and quick. Highly recommend this place.
For a hotel restaurant in Gainesville, Covey is surprisingly good. The drinks and food are creative and exceptionally tasty. My family enjoys eating outside watching the sunset and listening to the nearby fountains.
Our waiter was trying to engage in our conversation. Very slow service. He talked too much!!! Didn’t know the menu, but didn’t stop him from acting like he did. Very very slow on the bill of which I asked him to be discrete and provide to me. Prices $$$$
Covey is a great additional for all meals on the Campus of UF Health in Gainesville. The setting is ideal and the kitchen is excellent for all choices.
Cocktails were very good, steak frites good, chicken breading very brown slightly overcooked but moist, porkchop seemed boiled, texture was awful, too much water on plate from that and or the greens. not appetizing and didnt eat. kitchen seemed understaffed at breakfast and dinner.
Delicious meals, friendly staff and good ambiance!
Just ok. I was not impressed by the menu or my meal. It has a nice ambiance like any restaurant in a fancy hotel but the food is better elsewhere
Excellent luncheon w my wife and daughter. Been there several times. The charcuterie is always the best!
We made a spur-of-the-moment date night decision to come to Covey, and we were SO glad we did. If you get one thing, get the pork belly appetizer. 10/10. Cocktails were great, and steak was wonderful. Attentive and friendly service. Looking forward to coming back and would definitely recommend!
