The food was absolutely fabulous! Our party of 3 shared 3 different antipasti - the halibut crudo & chioggia beets were beautifully presented and delicious. Each of us ordered entrees from the Primi menu and were not disappointed with the homemade pasta. Perfect portions! We all splurged and had dessert as well. The tiramisu is the best I have ever eaten. All this in a casual welcoming setting. Would go back in a heart beat.

The pumpkin sformato and ravioli were good however the fritto of petrale sole with buddhas hand & capers tasted just like frozen Gorton’s fried fish sticks from the grocery store and even after I mentioned that and sent it back. I still got charged the $15. Seriously! And don’t be surprised if you show up with reservations and the people that arrive after you get seated first.

My husbands pork was extremely fatty. I ordered the quail. It was not exceptional. We did order the pasta for our first course and that was delicious. With so many great restaurants in SF, I would skip Catogna next time.

This is an Italian restaurant with a creative menu so that you get unique items. It is vegetarian friendly. In the past, we had the Strozzapreti, & the Fettuccine, along with Focaccia & liked them all. However, this time they only had one vegetarian eggless pasta - the Tagliolini, so that was a bummer. So if you are vegan, you may not get the best pasta variety. The beat salad & side of spinach, & the chocolate desert were good. They also have a good non alcoholic drink selection including a bartender's choice if you like surprises! The seating is limited. Parking can be tight as with any place in San Francisco & there is no valet during lunch.

Cotogna is one of our all time favorite Italian restaurants in San Francisco! With its authentic, creative seasonal menu that changes often, we are always impressed with everything on the menu whenever we go there. And we go as often as we can find an available table, which is not easy. It’s no wonder that everyone else wants to dine there too! We highly recommend it. If you have hearing issues as we do, go before or after the busiest times.

We have been coming to Cotogna for years and it's always a treat. The pastas are spectacular and the other dishes are inventive and delicious as well. Besides pasta specials, we ordered the fish and panna cotta, which were both outstanding. Thanks for another great meal!

Long time fan of Cotogna but this was disappointing. When we asked for focaccia, waiter said the new chef eliminated bread. Salad was ordinary and pizza tasteless.

Where is the former chef now? That is where I want to go for exquisite Italian food.

Cotogna is my favorite San Francisco restaurant. It's got the neighborhood feel, great food and terrific service you want. Any time I'm in the city I eat at Cotogna. They also make special occasions even more special by celebrating with you. And the food! Every dish--from appetizers to dessert--is scrumptious. And the wine! A great selection and, of course, cocktails (everyone's new favorite). Cotogna is a must.

Amazing restaurant that reflects the unique culture in Michael Tusk’s restaurants. The Italian focused menu offers an amazing selection of pasta but also other dishes. The wine list is well balanced and works well with the dishes (no shenanigans like at Quince though). Cotogna is for every occasion: every dining, celebrations, business meals, dates. The service has been impeccable and very friendly.

The food was remarkable. We all had something different and were impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the amazing final dishes. The noise level was pretty unbearable at 1:45, when we arrived and gradually diminished until it was possible to have a conversation by 2:45. The server was not appropriately attentive. There was a long wait before a drink order was taken, even longer before the food order was taken. We were not ready to order when first asked but then were abandoned for much too long. One of our party ordered a glass of wine with his entree and it sat on the bar for a good 8-10 minutes, until his food was cold and we demanded that someone retrieve the glass. There was no apology from our server although the person who brought the wine was very apologetic. Not a three star performance by our server.

We’ve been here many times before, as well as to the sister restaurant Quince, but on our last visit we were disappointed on all fronts. The food and wait staff took way too long to show up throughout the night. The crab chitarra lacked salt, of all things. The women’s bathrooms looked like those of a concert venue, and the back hall between the two restaurants smelled badly like it had been cleaned with a bar towel. Lastly, on a cold December evening the air conditioning was on, such that the window shades were billowing and floor vents were blowing cold air onto our legs. It was warmer outside than inside the restaurant. Shocked by how far downhill the experience here has slid in just a year. Hope they can bring it back up.

The food was fantastic as always. The service was meh. We arrived for an 8pm reservation and were seated at 8:20. We had an hour to eat a 2 course meal. Should be fine. We ordered 2 salads, a pizz and a pasta dish; and asked for the 2 cold dishes to be brought out first, followed by the 2 hot dishes. It took more than 30 min for the salads to emerge, along with a pizza, oddly. We tried to wolf down the pizza so it wouldn't get cold, then ate some salad while a waiter said the pasta was coming. Then the pasta didn't come. It arrived about 7 min before we had to leave. I ate it as fast as I could but still could not finish. I did get some very intense heart burn, which was a nice distraction from the service. Then for no reason the came out w.ice cream. I suppose an apology? My husband attempted to eat it between bites of salad and pasta. It was... gross.

Cotogna is one of my favorite restaurants and is a true neighborhood gem. I eat here often, and it's one of my favorite Italian restaurants, a place where the pasta is wonderfully al dente and where they use fresh seasonal ingredients every time. The sformato is seasonal and delightful, too. The wine list is always interesting but not so large as to get overwhelming, which I appreciate. I also enjoy the ambience here, on the corner of Pacific and Montgomery in the Jackson Square historic district of San Francisco. It's an elegant and casual place, where I often run into my friends from the neighborhood or who work in the Financial District. I highly recommend it for both work and personal get-togethers.
