We have stayed at the Mauna Kea for years and eaten at the Copper Bar many times. Our reservations were made well in advance and had put in the reservation it was my husband’s birthday. Albeit that, they sat us at the lower HH bar table as opposed to a dinner table. Extremely UNCOMFORTABLE for full dinner dining. The food was mediocre for the price point. Service was great by our waitress but the other waitstaff had to be asked to clear the extra glasses, plates, etc. our dinner was brought and just put in put on the table where there was no room to place our dinner. After dinner since we had told them we were celebrating a birthday, we expected a little something but there was no mention of it. Ambiance was do so as we were in the very front corner so we couldn’t see the musician at all. Just the hostess stand. We will be frequenting the hotel again soon. We might skip the copper bar for dinner this next time.

A favorite in Mauna Kea, we enjoy coming here for a sunset cocktail and music or for a dinner of tapas and sushi. It’s within a beautiful and convenient location at the Mauna Kea Resort with wonderful service.

Overall just fair and not worth the cost. Meat not cooked to temperature and ribs dry. Drinks were good. Unfortunately best part of the meal was dessert. Malasadas were good.

Absolutely fantastic! This dining experience earns a solid 10 out of 10. The talent on display was remarkable, with both the musician and the dancer adding a delightful ambiance to our meal. The food portions were of a standard size, a refreshing departure from the typical oversized American servings. Highly recommended for a memorable outing!

Delightful dinner-- not terribly expensive for the venue, and definitely worth the cost, especially since we were able to explore the grounds before and after! There was live music and it was just the right volume (not too loud). Service was also terrific, and the food was delicious.

We were asked to wait for 15 min past our reserved time. The sushi wasn’t particularly flavorful and they were out of jalapeños, a main ingredient in one of the rolls. Additionally, they were out of green beans, a central ingredient in another item we ordered.

This is the first place we go to after our plane lands from California and we make our Costco run. Its like the Big Island is welcoming us home with delicious food, beautiful sunsets, Hawaiian music, our favorite hola dancer and great service! The cook always creates some of the tastiest fish specials…….We are very Blessed with Copper Bar!

We had reservations at 7, took a little bit longer to be seated (10min wait). Our server Robert was amazing though once we were seated. We got the chefs special and it was fantastic. I’d also highly recommend the KFC. They had a singer and a dancer there which was a nice touch. Restaurant is on the water in the hotel. It is pricey but that comes with being in Hawaii.

We live in Waimea and have eaten here many times. It is our -- OK -- it is dinner time, and we are still at the beach. The food is usually pretty good, but "not something that you write home about." Last night, the service was really slow. I had to get up to ask for our server several times. My glass of wine did not come until after dinner was served. Both my wife's and my Ono (Hawaiian Fish) were really overcooked. Everything else was pretty good. I make my living online, and I am reticent to leave bad or mediocre reviews as they have power. We have probably eaten here at least fifteen times. It was good about half the time. The setting is magnificent. The beach below is the best on the Big Island. If your expectations are not too high, then it is a fine place to eat.

Inexperienced, uninterested, service staff. Un-bussed tables for the entirety of our meal. Hard to get water refills. Food mediocre. Beautiful space (positive) with two huge flat-screened t.v.s (negative). Strange menu (hasn't changed in years). Half the tables were empty, as the hotel chose not to staff enough service-staff due to low guest-count at the hotel (labor cost-saving),...having said that, they still had plenty of staff hanging around chatting with each other while tables went un-bussed and guests needed more water. Will not return.

I’d say if you are staying at Mauna Kea and just want a pub quality dinner with good entertainment but hurried mediocre service, then go. Food was nothing special - The tuna roll was similar to a bento box in quality and taste. It seriously presented and tasted as if it was from A grocery aisle. Calamari was good, Capresse and flatbread was average. Service was very poor. Most servers including ours seemed to be running constantly to keep their head above water and were just trying to make it through the nights service. The live music was great . Never going back.

The three of us all really enjoyed the mahi-mahi special. The Copper Bar is always very accommodating to people with food allergies, so with two of us having a gluten allergy, we felt very safe. We each had a different salad, and all were delicious. The copper fries as an appetizer were our “cheat” for the night. So yummy! Our waitress was Lacey, and she was very friendly and attentive. Great calm night. Classy hotel, where we got married 38 years ago. Can’t wait to go back.

The food in the Copper Bar was very good and reasonably priced for Hawaii. The condescending, obnoxious host at the check in desk is a totally different story. The service attitude seemed to be “get them in and out as quickly as possible” We also found the decor and atmosphere severely lacking, with extremely high ceilings and bright spot’s shining from above which were annoying. Would not recommend.
