Excellent food, interestingly prepared but not over-the-top, friendly, knowledgable and capable staff. In Connecticut's northwest hills there are a number of good restaurants to choose from. Within the general category of "good" restaurants, we take good food for granted, but nonetheless some restaurants manage to come off as a little too casual, and others, in trying too hard, end up as pretentious --- but we always come back to CT. A clean uncluttered (but not in any way stripped-down) style pervades the whole place: the design of the several rooms, the design of the place settings, the design of the food, and the design of the service itself --- neither too little nor too much. For us, It's just right.

I was very happy with the food and drink. Scrumptious bread, "tomato on toast," lobster roll, and elk tenderloin. The craft beer was also delicious. The meal, which is most important, was an "A." The only slight drawbacks were: 1) we were seated in the bar area, so there was minimal ambiance, did not even see the dining room really, and 2) the menu is not as "deep" as I would have thought.

Interesting, but a bit odd. Menu reflects local ingredients and Scandinavian roots of chef and owner. Simplicity of presentation is not reflection of layers of work and flavors in the food. And yet, the overall meal lacked cohesiveness. Really good dishes on their own, but the whole meal seemed a bit disconnected. The dining rooms were odd too - the bar side with lots of small tables and lots of people seemed very "community" while we were in a room with a couple small tables and one big table and were alone most of the time. Service was very attentive. Compared to other high end places in Litchfield area, value seemed a bit lacking.

2nd time there in two weeks. Just as good as the first time around. Best food in the area IMO.

Had the best meal I have had in awhile.. This meal was up there with any fine restaurant in NYC or San Francisco. Love it. We ate there twice in 3 days!
