Music was way too loud. Menu needs more food choices. Chef ran out of NY steak. Not much left to choose. Service was top notch.

We enjoyed everything we ordered - the crudo, mixed salad, tomela, fish tacos, and bone marrow tacos (what they’re known for). Wonderful service too. Highly recommend!

You know that quote "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel"? Well, we walked away from our dining experience at Comedor with a feeling we'll never forget. I brought my best friend here for his birthday and they greeted us with celebration mezcal shots and the whole team had signed a card for him with happy birthday wishes. Every single time a new waiter came by our table, they wished him a happy birthday. It truly is these small acts of kindness that go a long way and stick with you long after the meal is over – and that thoughtfulness and care extends to their service and menu items as well. Absolutely loved the Repo Ginger cocktail and the Papas Fritas are not to be missed!

I rolled into Comedor late on a Saturday, hoping for date-night vibes, and instead got plopped onto the community tables parked in front of the bar—basically the culinary equivalent of homeroom. Look, I’m all for “breaking bread” with humanity, but I’d prefer not to elbow-bump Chad’s mezcal while whisper-yelling sweet nothings to my own dinner companion. Communal seating: great in kindergarten, weird when I’m dropping triple digits on tacos. Now, onto the good stuff—because the kitchen? Chef’s-kiss city. From the Frío squad, the Suncheese Tostada, Salsa Macha, Charred Cauliflower, and Shishito Salpicón landed almost as fast as my annoyance with the seating arrangement. Every bite popped like a mariachi trumpeter after an espresso shot. Highly recommend. Then came the headline act: Bone Marrow Tacos with quelites, smoked butter, and pecan gremolata. These tortillas were so perfect I considered writing them a love letter. If you don’t order this dish, I can’t help you—you’ve made bad life choices. We skipped the De la Casa stuff (future me will report back), but the Papas Fritas Potosinas from Del Huerto were golden, crispy, and came with an onion aioli that made me want to dunk everything in sight—including, possibly, Chad. Service? Ehhh. Our food sprinted out before the drinks even started stretching—strange, considering the place wasn’t exactly bursting at the seams. Not a deal-breaker, but the bar team definitely needs to sync their watches with the kitchen. Final verdict: Comedor nails the “modern Mexican” groove—think edgy, flavor-packed riffs rather than abuela’s greatest hits. It’s not gunning for Rick Bayless’ Topolobampo throne (different league, different ballpark), but for Austin it’s a rock-solid pick—especially if you can score an actual table and not the cafeteria benches up front. Go for the Bone Marrow tacos, stay for the fries, and maybe practice your best “Sorry, I’m taken” smile for your new tablemates.

Service was wildly slow last night compared to times in the past. My strip steak showed up so late everyone had already completed their entree dishes. No apologies really offered. Just a late and rather cold steak (they clearly forgot it). Places is starting to go down sadly.

Food and service as usual amazing! Although we found out during our visit that Seth is no longer a bartender at Comedor. He is one of the big reasons why we come here! We will miss Seth and his amazing service with a smile. Don’t get me wrong the staff is amazing at Comedor but Seth is one of our faves. Wishing you best of luck Seth wherever you are my friend.
