Food was good but it took us an hour to get it and we were only a party of 4.
Food was fantastic, very flavorful and the staff was great and knowledgeable about the whole Austin area and gave us some great suggestions on what to do. I would go back in a heartbeat!
Excellent service with attentive staff. The drinks, appetizers, and desserts were great! The chicken could have used a little more seasoning. But overall, a wonderful experience, would highly recommend and visit again.
Wonderful food and service! Will be going back.
The food was delicious and a great price for the amount you get. The pimento cheese was amazing!!! Will go back again and again!
Just a great place with great service all around!
The whole experience was good except it took almost 45 minutes before we received our food
Excellent food and service. A perfect place to hang out with my girls
Delicious gourmet Southern comfort food, friendly, attentive waitstaff. A real treat!
The food at Colleen’s is great! They brought the wrong entree - a burger instead of the fried chicken. I had to wait a bit for them to make it so my boyfriend finished his food before I got my meal. The mashed potatoes were a bit salty but that might have just been because they were in a rush to get the food out. They gave us some “I’m sorry” cookies to make up for it though.
I want this place to be fab. In the neighborhood, great story and decor. Staff is terrific. Go out of their way to make things right.
However, every time we go, they have to hear me ask what happened in the kitchen. Simple burger: asked for med-rare, and out came way over well done with a burned bun. Hubbies catfish sandwich bun burned. Out of town guest served an over-cooked beet dish that was dumped in a bowl and frankly, looked very unappetizing.
Dessert sent out with a celebratory message that was very sweet - but the dessert was very overdone as well.
I fear we won’t go back - it was third time and two were special events. Really disappointing.
Pricy for chicken and a glass of wine.
The restaurant looks so cozy and comfortable. The menu is great- hard to decide what to get because it all sounds so good! We had one of the craft cocktails- it was delicious. We will definitely go back.
This was an absolute gem! We loved every second of it! The food was incredible! The location was fun! And the service was exactly what you want!
To their credit, we went on Valentine's and they had a limited menu and evidently some type of catastrophy in the kitchen because one of the 3 courses they offered became unavailable by 8pm.
The food was delicious but the pasta fiasco apparently carried over into a lack of ability to provide refills.
The place was nice but in a city that's full of great eats, we'll be going elsewhere in the future.
We loved it! Had a delicious pimento cheese appetizer - don't miss that! Cute place, but really noisy! Meals were delicious, and the price was great for what we got. We'll definitely return.
Love this place, would like more selection on the menu! Server forgot my drink but it’s okay he was busy, it happens!
Amazing first dinner at Colleen’s!
Everything we ate was delicious. I don’t eat chicken, but my wife and our friend both had it and inhaled it along with the glorious mashed potatoes. YUMS.
We had the biscuits as well as the redfish spread for apps. Both we super tasty. I had the redfish with greens and potato cake entree and it was the perfect portion following the appetizers.
We also enjoyed dessert and not a drop was left of the three different ones we shared.
Food aside, the service was EXCELLENT. The ambiance is lovely and inviting, the music is fun and nostalgic. Noise level was mostly a light buzz, never loud. Can’t wait to go back and introduce more friends to this sweet gem.
Food was absolutely amazing!
Quaint and cozy
Great concept. Food is prepared well. The main entree portions are small enough to not see the value in the dish. Meaning if you are going to serve comfort foods, there is no reason to try to dress it up and charge a higher price for it. I had the redfish... the entire entree could have been eaten off an appetizer plate. The sauce lacked the napé consistency of perfection yet covered the entire plate. Service was good. Just a reminder, please don't make your patrons eat their main coarse with their appetizer utensils.
Great food and a fun, bright environment. Service was a bit sub par for what you would typically expect for a brunch/lunch service.
Great staff, fantastic experience, food and drinks were amazing
This restaurant had a very nice ambiance. The food was not as good as expected and the menu was very limited. The portions were small for the price and everything could use a better choice of seasoning. Could mostly only taste pepper.
Had our first date here, super casual but really good food and attentive service. This place is amazing! Aesthetically pleasing and the happy hour is great. Menu may be slightly selective, but everything you could get is delicious and well put together. The presentation is great on everything. I have no bad things to say
The atmosphere was appealing and the food was incredible! Loved having a southern home cooked meal. Can’t wait to go back.
I did love the restaurant. We were pressed for time and they accommodated us very well. Next time I will be able to enjoy more and provide a better idea of the place.
Generally good, though our waiter was very spacey. Didn't bring a spoon with hot beverages, even though we had cream and sugar. Also took way too long to come get entree orders and rather than starting with "Have we decided what we're eating?" or something similar he simply said, "How is everything?" I was so worried he wouldn't take our order, I had to bluntly say, "May we order?" The food was good.
The food was good but service was slow. We were also seated behind the hostess stand on a cold evening and felt the draft every time the door opened. There were also pillows on the booth benches which we found uncomfortable. The food and drinks made up for this though.
Went to dinner on Friday night. Service was glacial. Food was ok. Chicken was not crispy, felt like it was fried earlier in the day and reheated to serve. Probably won’t go back.
Great food quality-our go to for fried chicken and biscuits!
The food here is amazing. I ordered the shrimp and grits for brunch and the grits are some of the best I have ever had. They certainly have the southern food thing down done in an elevated way. I love their cocktail menu and their house punch is tasty and a great value. Their appetizers are all fantastic. I highly recommend the fried okra. The deviled eggs are also on point. It’s a great place for brunch but I would get a reservation because people love to hang out here at brunch so the tables don’t turn over that quickly.
Great Fried Chicken and smoked cheese grits!
I came here for a celebratory dinner with one other person, and we sat at the beautiful marble (inside) bar for cocktails and dinner. I had the Heaven to Betsy's cocktail which was delicious, refreshing, and french-75-y, basically all of the things I ask for in a gin cocktail. We had two of the little biscuit sandwiches to start and they were perfectly sweet, salty, and spicy. We then split the Buttermilk Fried Chicken plate and I scarfed down the chicken and sides so fast it was so good. Capped it off with the yummy banana pudding. Thank you for a great evening! I will definitely be back!
Amazing boneless fried chicken. Sides were awesome. Biscuits were a bit of a disappointment - should / could have been softer / fresher. Great southern home cooking, well executed with superb service.
The interior is so warm and inviting. Great lighting and inviting design. The food was excellent. Fresh and served Hot! I had the Chicken Pot Pie, which was so delicious. My mom had the fried chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. The best of comfort food... And of course, one of my favorites is the biscuits and Tomato Jam.
The only down side that evening was the server. She was not responsive to refilling drinks, nor anticipating needs, even though she had to pass by our table from the kitchen area to the other parts of the restaurant. It seemed the managers and wait staff loved to visit and laugh and gather around the computers instead of pay attention to customers. The other two times I have been here, I had very good service.
I live in Mueller and have been meaning to try Colleen's for a while, after hearing great things from friends who have tried it. I thought every thing we tried was wonderful. Well prepared vegetable dishes and interesting combinations of food. The waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to answer any questions we had patiently and with good humor. The wine list was also pretty exceptional. We tried some different wines by the glass and each of us in the party came away with a new favorite. Its a great place!
Decor was great but food and service were bland. Dismissive/bored waitress who barely spoke. Everything we ordered needed salt--I wasn't aware one could gentrify southern cuisine, but Colleen's has that down. Fried green tomatoes with literally no seasoning, just an overly thick cornmeal batter. Mac & cheese our son took 2 bites of and refused to finish (and after I had a bite I didn't blame him). It looked creamy but had zero flavor to it.
Wouldn't recommend or try again. If you're the type to think mayo is "too spicy" though, this is the place for you.
The roasted tomato soup was a stand-out dish. I had it with the grilled pimiento cheese sandwich and it was a perfect lunch. I wish this soup could be on the menu every day.
We tried Colleen's on a whim before heading to downtown Austin to get some southern cookin'. The spot is casual but swanky at the same time. Our server was nice and friendly. I would definitely come here again- can't beat that fried chicken! :)
