Coastal Kitchen & Raw Bar
Amazing service and our waiter was great. Food is over priced and not that great.
We usually have a great experience when eating here but this time was a poor experience. We had reservations on Thursday evening and they were running more than half an hour behind and the restaurant was packed. No one was wearing masks and it didn’t look like any precautions were being taken to socially distance tables. We decided to skip this and went some where else.
Tasty good service good location! Omelette and cocktails especially good. We enjoyed our meal.
Very nice...will return
Wonderful service. Great setting and Food. Oysters were great.
We had the Arugula salad, dirty oysters, the fried shrimp and the seafood pasta. Everything was excellent! We’ve been staying at The Cloister and the food here was hands down better than anything we’ve had at the hotel. Highly recommend!
Wonderful server, nice outdoor table with view of marina, very tasty blackened redfish with sautéed onions, peppers and tiny shrimp!! Overall very nice dinner!
My boyfriend and I both had great dinners — Pleasantly surprised, Everything was way better than average!! Food was fantastic, Great service, and the ambience was very pleasant and fun!!
My table had the swordfish, fried shrimp, redfish, and picayune pasta. All were outstanding.
The brunch is very good and the Bloody Marys were delicious.
The food is consistently good and the setting is hard to beat.
We were very happy with our meals and Susanna did a fabulous job! Thank you for re-opening!
Awesome! Great atmosphere and service. Food and drinks were amazing! We sat outside so the view at night looking over the dock was epic. We had the fried pickles along with the peel and eat shrimp for appetizers. You can’t go wrong with either I would suggest both. I went with the Springer chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes, best chicken ever. I can say with no doubt Coastal Kitchen is a place you must go to if in the St.Simmons area.
We come here every time we visit St. Simon's Island. We've always had impeccable service. However, this time we didn't. We made reservations for outside at 8:00 pm. We arrived thirty minutes early and thankfully we were able to go ahead and sit (we were just gonna enjoy a drink until then). We were sat at the edge of the porch towards the front door which defeated the purpose of requesting outside. We like to see the water and boats. Then it took forever to place our order which was only an appetizer to begin with. Then we received our appetizer within a good amount of time but we finished it and still waiter forever AGAIN to place or meal order. After placing our meal order the waiter came back ten minutes later to tell us that they had JUST sold out of what I requested. (Had we not had to wait forever to order I would've been able to have it). Then the light at our table kept flickering on and off so we couldn't see. We had to move to the far corner table EVEN FURTHER away. We were now sitting in front of the restaurant. The food and drinks were amazing as always so that was good. We AGAIN had to wait a long time to pay for our meal. I hope by our next trip to the Island it will be better or we may wait a few visits before returning. After spending $130 on dinner for two I don't want to go through that again.
My favorite restaurant in SSI. Seafood is always delicious. Ratatouille dish is excellent! Never been disappointed.
Did a great Mothers Day brunch, while at the same time putting safety first
The food is very good and creative. We all had fish and the entrees were cooked to perfection. Our server was very personable. Lovely evening.
The food was excellent! We went at 3:00 for a late lunch/early supper on a Sunday afternoon. We were not rushed at all. The appetizers, food, dessert came out at great intervals. We were there about an hour & a half and they were not busy at all. I can see where it may get crowded during the regular dinner hour. The views of the marina were incredible. We had the gator tail appetizer for my son (a little pricey for the amount but delicious- although he didn’t want to share!) and an order of the lobster nachos for the table. Outstanding! And could certainly see ordering those as my main meal another time! Husband had the blackened redfish and he enjoyed it, lobster ravioli was great. Fish and chips for my son were a tad greasy - but tasty. Our friends had the pork tenderloin and said it was great. Creme brûlée & key lime pie were excellent desserts - and the potions were a good size for these stuffed diners!
The setting is lovely. It’s too bad the food is not up to the view. Our arugula salad, described as local arugula with fried goat cheese, came with tons of pimentos (?), walnuts and capers and 2 halved cocktail tomatoes. While a few capers and walnuts might have added to the flavor, the pimentos added nothing but color and were out of place. My husband’s salad plate was greasy around the edges of the salad, which was not appetizing. My husband got the scallop and shrimp dish. The squash mash was good as were the green beans. The shrimp was good but the scallops weren’t cooked very well and tasted slightly old. I ordered the shrimp and grits, at the suggestion of our server. When the plate arrived, it was frankly a bit of a mess. It looked like the food had been haphazardly slopped down on the plate. Sauce was all over the place. As I began eating, I crunched down on something hard. There were bits of clam shell in my food (at least 3 pieces). I asked my server if there were clams in the dish and was told ‘no’. But clams are on the same station in the kitchen! Yikes. The tomato sauce is described as a smoked tomato sauce, but there was no underlying smokiness. It tasted like pretty basic tomato sauce. Our waiter was great and apologetic, and didnt charge us for my entree. But I’m not even his good service is enough to make me go back.
We love this restaurant and come at least once a month. The food and service are excellent but it has become very pricey. We would suggest you need to have a house wine choice at $7 per glass, some lower priced entrees to get the per person ticket
Price down by $5-$7 and we think the result would be more frequent visits. How about some 6-7pm specials? Drink specials? Appetizer specials for early diners? Just a thought. Keep up the great food and great service.
Food is full of flavors and the portions are a nice size.
Excellent food and plenty of it, at a moderate price.
Love the atmosphere & view!! Great meals & service as well! 3 of us had the special & actually had the last 3 available & the portions were great & we ate it all!!! We’ve been before & we’ll be back!!
Good food and service. I had the blackened fish that was very good.
We really love this place. Our server was great and the food is always good. The only issue we had This time was the grits with my blackened flounder were cold.
Still I will go back.
Redfish is fabulous. Cooked perfectly. Our server
Miranda was awesome....prompt service, friendly and knowledgeable about food on the menu.
Great location on the water. Food and service both well done.
We were so disappointed with our last experience eating at Coastal Kitchen. We’ve enjoyed many good meals there and we often recommend the restaurant to our friends and renters when visiting the area, but after last night, we no longer can recommend Coastal Kitchen. We made a reservation for 8:30 on a Saturday night. There were reservation available as late as 9:00. We are a couple who likes to eat dinner on the later side and likes to take our time and enjoy a nice meal. Most of the restaurant crowd thinned out by 9:30. We were halfway through our entrees and bottle of wine at 9:40 pm when suddenly they cut the music off, the staff started sweeping and mopping around us and they opened the curtains to the kitchen area. It was pretty clear what the message was... “hurry the f’up and finish your meal so we can get the f’out of here”. That completely ruined a $200 meal for us and is unforgivable in our book. If you know your crowd is not a late dinner crowd and your staff is so eager to get out of there, why do you even offer later reservations? On top of this, their food quality has gone downhill since our last visit. The bibb and endive salad was so soaked in dressing that the greens were soggy, the rice in the paella was undercooked and the swordfish entree was bland. The one thing that wasn’t a problem was our server. We’ve had this same server in the past and she is polite and attentive. No complaints there, but the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths...literally and figuratively. We will not be back.
Food and service were great as usual, but kitchen seemed a little slow this night. Tables were a little crowded and there were some loud patrons nearby. Will request a booth next time.
Food was awful and the waiter definitely hates his job. Not sure who wrote previous reviews.
We were on our way to Florida from NY and wanted seafood. This was a wonderful restaurant on the water with amazing shrimp and oysters! Great service and local cuisine
Were seated as soon as we arrived. We started out with the Fried Calamari. It was delicious. We both chose the same entrée. We had the bistro salad with blackened salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection. I would recommend this restaurant.
We got a reservation for New Year's Eve here because our regular restaurant was closed that night. It couldn't have worked out better! My husband and I both had salads (I had the goat cheese) and then ordered two of their specials. He had the lightly blackened scallops over hoppin' john and collard greens. When he was finished there wasn't a scrap on the plate. He has remarked several times it was the best special he has ever had. I had the surf and turf which was a tiny lobster tail and a delicious filet. The filet was excellent and the bordelaise sauce was delicious over the steak and the creamy mashed potatoes. The only thing not up to par was the tiny overcooked lobster tail. We finished the meal with coffee and a wonderful creme brûlée. Our server was great and kept us supplied with water, wine, and drinks and kept the dinner very enjoyable. Since we are local we'll be back again soon!
Great way to enjoy the last meal of 2019. Specials were delicious! Might become our annual tradition!
There were 5 people in our party. One had swordfish, very good, two had Mexican seafood and rice mixture, very poor, the other had lobster ravioli. It was very rich. She got sick when we got home. We have eaten at Coastal Kitchen several times and it was always good. For what ever reason our visit on the 31st was terrible.
We made a reservation for dinner. When we arrived the hostess told us that our table wasn’t ready and she had no idea when we could be seated. She was very rude. The manager was finally able to help us. The food was OK, but nothing special. There are much better restaurants in the area who treat their customers better.
I love this location, beautiful view, especially nice if you can sit on the deck on a beautiful day. It's been open years, clearly doing something right.
I try a new thing every time. I haven't found a dish I'd go back for. This time, for dinner, I had Swordfish that was terribly dry, but good risotto side. My son had shrimp and grits, which wasn't like anything we would imagine. There are much better places on the island for that. My daughter had fried shrimp that was good.
The menu online is a little different than the current one. The weird thing we noticed is the menu item title is appealing, then something in the description, sides or sauce, etc make it weird.
I won't seek it out, unless it's a sunny day on the patio. But, I'll definitely go back and try something else.
Food prepared well and presented nicely. Our server was very attentive, as well. Would definitely recommend this place to others.
Great grouper sandwich!
