Having spent years supplying London’s top restaurants through their separate wine businesses, Joe Haynes and Benedict Butterworth have joined forces with Tom Hurst, who has worked at Brawn, The Marksman, Levan, and most recently as Head Chef at Lasdun, to launch the trio’s first restaurant together.

Located in a Grade II listed building on Cloth Fair, Cloth Restaurant is part of a historic row of buildings in the City of London that survived the Great Fire of 1666. Down this atmospheric alley opposite St Bartholomew church, Cloth is taking over a double fronted corner site that’s beneath the former home of poet John Betjeman and next door to the two oldest residential buildings in London.

Inside, low ceilings, wood floorboards with antique wall lights and artwork create a cosy, intimate atmosphere, while marble tables, long dark wood banquettes, antique crockery and cutlery will create the feel of a classic bistro.

    Great overall, wonderful assistance picking the wines, knowledgable. Only downside is being mentioned to that there would be a next reservation and feeling tangibly pushed to leave for the next table (which didn't end up occupying our table). The unfortunate pushiness doesn't match this kind of vibe/establishment/price point.

    They can clearly cook. They have an exceptional and very well priced wine list. Nice clubby atmosphere. But need to care a little more about their customers and about everything they do - oysters served on dishwasher salt with a vague vinaigrette; jamon simply emptied from the posh packet at £24 a plate. Just needs more snap and attention to detail.

    Cloth is quite simply one of the best restaurants in London. Dishes looked fantastic and tasted amazing. Loved the British salami and a plate of pickles to nibble. Perfectly sauced and perfectly pink Devon lamb (hogget) loin came with caramelised endive and some purple sprouting broccoli . Just enough and a great balance for the meat. Not much of a pudding eater I still chose a millefeuille of new rhubarb. Good decision ! Looked amazing and was not overly sweet. Great service and happy faces on the tables around us. My third trip to Cloth and I am already planning the next….

    Try the crab salad, the lamb and any of the deserts. This second visit probably out did our first. What a find. Don’t tell everyone, keep it our secret…

    Simple menu with great food, knowledgeable staff. Very busy (even on a Monday night) which impacts ambience a bit. Would go again.

    Utterly delightful......what a gem! Atmosphere, lightning, the room, wine and the food create one of the most memorable dining experiences in London. all of this and impeccable service.....this truly is a place that needs to be enjoyed!
