Having spent years supplying London’s top restaurants through their separate wine businesses, Joe Haynes and Benedict Butterworth have joined forces with Tom Hurst, who has worked at Brawn, The Marksman, Levan, and most recently as Head Chef at Lasdun, to launch the trio’s first restaurant together.

Located in a Grade II listed building on Cloth Fair, Cloth Restaurant is part of a historic row of buildings in the City of London that survived the Great Fire of 1666. Down this atmospheric alley opposite St Bartholomew church, Cloth is taking over a double fronted corner site that’s beneath the former home of poet John Betjeman and next door to the two oldest residential buildings in London.

Inside, low ceilings, wood floorboards with antique wall lights and artwork create a cosy, intimate atmosphere, while marble tables, long dark wood banquettes, antique crockery and cutlery will create the feel of a classic bistro.

Really too expensive for what it offers. The food is got but not exceptional. The prices are really high.

The Cheese pie was unfortunately a little underwhelming . It was described as a pie but it was in fact a slice and i think that should be made clear on the menu or by the staff . It was also not very cheesey !! Other dishes such as the trout , crab rosti and cod made up for it Staff were attentive and polite . The ambience is delightful

A great classy restaurant that represents the sort of casual excellence that makes for a good lunch with friends. We had three different starters followed by 3 different mains and shared everything 3 ways - worked very well and the wine they suggested (unknown to us) set the meal off beautifully. At the expensive end of lunch but really worth it.

Food was good quality. Service was good. Thought the range of dishes was just right. My only complaint is the tables are too close together and we found it difficult to have a conversation as the groups either side of us had strong voices.

Outstanding food, service and value. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Interesting eclectic wine list. We had an Alsace Riesling from 2018 which hit the spot in a very hot evening. Mackerel and crab starters were good and flavoursome; but the chicken to share with grilled and a salsa verde was outstanding melt in your mouth brilliance. Chips crispy and hard to resist. Leaf salad with a simple mustard dressing a perfect accompaniment. Good coffee too. The whole cost £220 including tip.

Banging food, wine list, and ambience. Very cute nook on a gorgeous street, Highly recommend. Pricey but varied wine list - lots of good wines.
