Where we invite you to journey into a place of both intimacy and companionship
Our concept is drawn from our name. The word “cloak” implies secrecy, inspiring our concept of a social sphere humming beneath the levels of ordinary life. “Petal” alludes to the Japanese tradition of “hanami,” when family and friends gather under blooming cherry blossoms to savor food, drinks and fellowship.
Enter our space and travel underground to décor reminiscent of an abandoned Tokyo subway, a stratum of society all its own, an artist’s dream. Cross the threshold into a mystically transformed Japanese social dining lounge which appears to be an outdoor seating area, similar to a waiting platform. Sit beneath a trellis of draping vines and teardrop lights in the intimate space we’ve thoughtfully created, and feast on authentic Japanese sushi, appetizers, small plates and drinks with family and friends.

Solid sushi in a lively (too loud for our tastes) & attractive setting. The specialty rolls were not drowning in mayo and had balanced flavors. The tuna was good/fine but should have been fresher. Borderline 4 stars for the food we happened to order. Fun neighborhood. Not sure why it is Michelin listed unless the food scene in SD is just that weak. Even if we lived here, I doubt we'd ever return unless in the company of younger people looking to have a few cocktails. The wine selections were iffy but the corkage reasonable at $25.

First time here….service was great…..food was mediocre….noise level terrible….seating accommodations are not the best…this is essentially a singles bar that serves sushi….you can do better

Such a gem! We went in not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bartender created a mocktail for me that was so good. We ordered sushi and the sticky ribs. Everything was delicious! The sushi was fresh and the ribs were tender.

Food was on par with sushi quality around the area and within southern California restaurants. I did not have steak so I cannot comment on the steak dishes. The sashimi was fresh. I ordered mostly sashimi (about 6 different ones) and 3-4 appetizer. They were all delicious and high quality. The server was available shortly after we were seated. However, the appetizers came out, I had to ask the host who walked by (and who was more attentive to the tables) to ask for placing more orders.

Celebrated my husband’s bday on Saturday early dinner (4pm). Service was great, food and drinks were delicious, we enjoyed everything. They gave my husband a little birthday dessert after our dinner. So cute!
