Excellent food but service was somewhat lacking
Delicious food creatively prepared in a relaxing atmosphere.
We had a delightful evening! the food was delicious and the service was good. the air conditioner was on too high, such that we are all hugging ourselves and keeping our jackets on, wishing we had sweaters. So, come hungry and adventurous, but bring a sweater!
The Clay Pit is my go-to restaurant when I have to satisfy a group of vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Whether or not there is meat in the dish, the food is flavorful. Also in contrast to most vegetarian-friendly restaurants, there is a range of vegetarian dishes while also catering to those who would prefer protein in the meal. In our group of six, everyone was very pleased with the flavor and quality of their choices..
A great meal! There were three of us and each one ordered a different entrée. We shared various bites and all three dishes were wonderful.
First, the food was very good but a little pricey for what it is. The service was poor though. It took 15 minutes from time of seating for a waiter to come to the table. Then from time of ordering it was another 30-40 minutes of waiting for the food. Poor service.
Great food, nice environment. Service for group was slow and inattentive, left us without food or wine for long stretches. Recommend getting more experienced large group servers on the big parties.
Great food and ambiance
Pretty noisy but we were seated in the large front room instead of one of the rear rooms where we are usually seated
One of my favorite restaurants! We are always willing to make the drive from San Marcos to eat here and spend time with friends. Very friendly and attentive wait staff
We enjoyed our dinner. Chicken korma, seafood grill, and vindaloo were all wonderful.
My husband and I went on a date here, just because we could. Food was great, service was amazing and the price was very reasonable! We will definitely go back!
The salmon was cooked perfectly, the service was courteous and professional, the mango cheesecake was a delight -- great for a small group who all love Indian cuisine!
Great food. Good selection of traditional dishes as well as some created by the chef.
Service was very good. They closed at 10 and we arrived at 8:30. The staff was kind enough to let us leisurely even though it was closing time. An Austin must do!
Good food and good service
Hands down some of the best and most interesting Indian food in Austin. House specials are particularly enticing. Don’t leave without trying their house infused vodka.
The claypit is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin, we try to go at least once a month
The service was not up to par this visit, it's usually quite good. Our server seemed overwhelmed by our party of seven. Also, the food took much longer than usual to be brought out. We will just chalk it up to an off night and we'll be back again in the near future.
Food was great and the service was Almost non existent
Food was great... service was not!
Good food and service overall. Ambiance is relaxed... not too upscale.
This restaurant has gone down since the last time I visited several years ago.
Zach is a fantastic server, and Balto and Balinder were very helpful in helping with the special event. Our guest of honor became ill on the original night and Balto was very helpful in my rescheduling request, giving us the cellar which is equally as good or maybe even better than the wine room. Our guest of honor was very greatful for the dinner, and the quietness of the cellar really enhanced the experience as we were able to have conversations that everyone could hear. Great job! I'll be back.
i am a total foodie so this was my pick for my birthday ! Loved it and will return again .
Nice. Very good waiter.
If it is the first time eating India then you will probably like it, in my opinion there are much better traditional India Restaurants close by, too Americanized for me. The venue was cool, large so quite noisy drink service was slow. The food lacked flavor, just chicken basically in cream sauces.
Try more authentic places which there are in and around Austin
Fantastic food! The mussels appetizer dish was my favorite. So light and fresh. We sat in the cellar portion of the restaurant which was so perfect. The upstairs was a bit too loud for my taste and the cellar had more of an intimate feel to it. Our server was wonderful and made the whole experience even better. Thanks Amber!
The food and drinks were so good! Love this place and will definitely come back!
We enjoyed dining and cocktails at the clay pit and we both enjoyed our meal and the value. The selection was easy and wait staff were helpful with all aspects of our visit. We will visit again and I absolutely loved my first experience of Indian cuisine .
Thanks to all at Clay Pit Restaurant
Anniversary dinner. Excellent service. But overall the Clay Pit didn’t live up to our expectations, based on earlier reviews and difficulty getting a reservation.
Excellent value in happy hour dining. Tandoori bites and particularly the mussels were outstanding.
I have always loved the food. Went on 2/16 bar girl was extremely rude and then when 5 friends we sat our service poor my friend did not get a sauce till end of meal too late and her wine either. Service no good
Excellent waiter. Fantastic food. Will be back.
My wife and I are newly vegetarian, so we decided to try Clay Pit because of the large vegetarian selection. We were not disappointed!! Everything was so good!!!
Overall this was a good experience. Food was good, not great. Only thing that really detracted from the experience was our main waiter. He was disengaged, unkempt, hands appeared dirty, and inattentive. We felt like we drew the short straw... Although it was Valentines Day, Our group was there well before the crowds arrived, so no excuse there...
Clay Pit has truly mastered Indian cuisine for Texas. The food is flavorful and well prepared, and for most dishes you can select your preferred level of spiciness. And the calamari is some of the best in town!
Food was great. Good options for cocktails. Would go again for sure when I am in Austin !!
Our first experience eating this type of food, and we loved it! They got my daughter’s order wrong, but she didn’t complain. It was a great evening anyway.
