I didn't think I liked Indian food, was forced to go with a group from work. Clay Pit has made me an avid Indian food lover!
Great sunday buffet! Kind staff and very delicious food. Highly recommend.
When we arrived, they could not find our reservation which was made through Open Table. We were told that since last 3 months they are not working with Open Table. We were surprised but told that we are the second customer today made reservation by Open table.
We were told that we have to wait 45 minutes.
We have waited and ate our meal.
Could you tell me truth who is correct., Open Table or Clay Pit?
Wait staff really friendly and fun. Food always great. Had a great time.
Delicious food! Such great options! Service was pretty good but could have been a little more attentive!
Server made great suggestions both for food and wines.
New Year’s Eve traffic caused much delays but the Food was well worth it !
One of my favorite restaurants in Austin. Always good food, good service. I always request to eat in the old wine cellar downstairs or the front room. Both rooms offer a quieter more quaint atmosphere.
Although we had reservations, we were asked to sit and wait. It was just 2 of us. We watched as large groups were seating, including smaller groups that arrived after we did. We asked for a status and was told we would get a table in the cellar as soon as it was cleared. Then, they seated us upstairs. We asked why, then, we were taken in the cellar where a few empty tables sat. The service and food was good once we sat down.
Great food and worth the 90min drive from San Antonio and surrounding cities. Highly recommend.
Superb! Service and food quality outstanding!
The food and service were excellent. Unfortunately, too noisy because of the patrons and some unruly children - can’t really blame the restaurant or the management
Clay Pit is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. It is authentic Indian food and the service is great.
Fabulous atmosphere, great Margarita, delicious cuisine!
The Clay Pit provided a pleasant dinning experience. Everything was good but there was nothing that made it stand out over and above other similar style restaurants. The only negative aspect was the check out process which took more time than we would have liked to accommodate our show schedule. However the food tasted good and our server was knowledgeable and courteous and even recommended a new Pinot Noir wine selection that was well liked and not too expensive.
Always a great experience at the Clay Pit. The service is on point, the ambiance is super relaxed and the food is absolutely delicious. Every time people from out of town come in this is the place that I bring them to. 5-stars all the way!
We have always loved ClayPit. Their Indian cuisine is just excellent.
We enjoyed the fine tasty Indian food. Our server did an excellent job of waiting on us. We each had shrimp with different sauces. We love this place.
Such a wonderful place! Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines and I happened to be dining with a visitor from India and we both thought it was amazing food, beautiful ambience, and friendly and smooth service. Though I’ve ordered takeout from Clay Pit before (the only place I order Indian from), this was my first time dining in. It definitely won’t be my last and my colleague from India wants to go again the next time he’s in town!
The food has been consistently good and we have been there many times but the service was poor this time. The waiter was painfully slow .
Great food, great service.
We had a late reservation, so that may account for some of my thoughts on the food and its freshness. The Butter chicken was good, but, I just can't get over the fact that I felt like there was ketchup in the sauce. I felt like it tasted a little sweet. Since it was late, I also felt like we got the last of the prepared food, as the naan was a little hard and the rice was lukewarm. Again, we had a late reservation (9:15), so I understand, but I still wanted the 7pm freshness. Either way, we loved everything, including the mango cheesecake and the mango margarita. I had a great birthday dinner here. Elizabeth was awesome and Kelly was helpful.
Food is always fantastic! Somewhat busy night, so you'll have to wait for your food. So, just know that, and enjoy the great Indian dishes they have to offer. Otherwise, was as expected--good Indian food, at a busy restaurant, with friendly staff.
Great experience overall, a few things they need to fix - don't advertise happy hour at the table if its only available in the bar. Also, the prices on the online menu are outdated, not substantially, but still an easy fix that a high end establishment should have already made.
Staff seemed a little overwhelmed ... strange for a sunday evening, but past experiences have been great.
Our server was the best. We could see he was a hard worker, very attentive, and knowledgeable of the food and drinks.
Kitchen was slow. Only so-so food.
Loved the food and service. It is VERY loud in here, and I'm not sure why-people are not speaking particularly loud. I will also note that we visited during the infamous "boil water" time in Austin, and I was a bit surprised that they did not have bottled sodas or other drinks available that were not fountain drinks. Food-everything was amazing. I always love coming here. Parking can be a pain in the butt, though-but the food is worth it.
SLOW service. We came with kids and it took over an hour to get ANY food on the table. Server said we didn’t order the dish we wanted the most, we know we ordered it. BUT when the food did come it was great! It was a 3 hour dinner though. I will only have takeout from them.l in he future.
Have been here several times. I truly enjoyed it, but the service was a little iffy. Maybe the water problem was to blame. Will give it another try.
Best Indian cuisine I’ve had in Texas! Just the right spices
The Clay Pit always delivers! On the first day of the Austin "Boil Water" edict, Clay Pit continued to operate and serve their entire menu. Their calamari appetizer is one of the best in Austin, and our entrees were delicious as well. You can't go wrong with the Clay Pit for Indian food.
Food is always excellent here. Don't miss the mussels
We have visited as party of 8 on several occasions and unfortunately this was the worst experience ever.
The food was bland and unappetising and the service was really poor.
It appears that The Clay Pit has changed hands or has a new Chef. Wouldn’t rush back anytime soon.
Excellent. Use the naan bread to get all of the sauce!!
Have been here twice. The sauces and naan bread are wonderful. Service was alittle slow as we had to ask for water, dessert menu, and check. Would definitely return, though.
Great food, subpar bar. Service was excellent. The goat was THE GOAT!
Food came two hour later
I have been going to the Clay Pit since it opened many years ago, and still the best curry in town. Sadly, the service on this visit was not good - had to ask 3 times before we got water, twice to get popadoms, and the appetizer we ordered didn’t ever make it to the table. The manager gave us a complimentary dessert to make up for it, which was nice.
I would say that portion size has definitely decreased over the years, but the food remains delicious.
The Clay Pit deserves its reputation, but not somewhere to go if you want a lot of conversation with your party - it’s really noisy.
Despite our below par visit, we will still continue to go to The Clay Pit, and hope next time is better.
