City Cafe - Baltimore
Located in the historic Mt. Vernon Cultural District- we serve Lunch, Dinner, & Weekend Brunch. Happy Hour is offered at our bars from 4pm-7pm [8pm on Fridays]. Groups are accommodated on short notice and private events of all kinds can be arranged with custom menus.
We're just a short Uber ride from Downtown & Harbor East. From North Baltimore we are only 2 minutes off 83 South (MD Ave Exit). Free parking provided nightly on lot catty-cornered from City Cafe .
With my college Sophomore in tow, my partner and I enjoyed the modern/sleek decor and well-prepared food — meatloaf with standard sides, chicken breast on roasted winter vegetables, and shrimp pasta. I don’t remember our dessert, if any, but the cappuccino was good!
Just a random Thursday night dinner. We were pleased with the $5 martinis on Thursday nights. The crab and fried green tomatoes are killer. The cauliflower bits are nothing special. Pulled pork tacos and oyster bison po’boy were great!
Kendal was great, the hollandaise was delicious, the eggs were perfectly poached.
The food as always was delicious. The service was lacking a little as I feel our waitress was overwhelmed. She was friendly and polite just lacking in attentiveness. I love this place and will always come back just during busy times may be helpful to have smaller sections for the staff. Thanks for the special day though!
Very attentive and friendly service. Delicious brunch and lunch options. Easy parking on street on Sunday. Walkable distance to Center Stage.
We dine at City Cafe often when we have Myerhoff tickets. It's a bit loud when you are at a table with several people, but the food is good, the prices aren't over the top and the service is usually good.
They have a nice variety of items on the menu to suit all palates-- pasta, seafood, steaks, vegetarian options. Very cool atmosphere. We all enjoyed our food and would definitely go back.
I'm a big big big city cafe fan, but I was really not thrilled with our server today. I think City reads reviews though, so and I have two more constructive comments: (1) I have real issues with the fact that the server stands directly over you when you sign the bill, as I think it puts undue pressure on the customer. As a server down in Harbor East, I dropped the check and left my customers alone. People tip how they please, and while I hope they liked me, i think in any circumstance, that pressure is uncomfortable. (2) really not a fan of the tip options on the screen. Everyone knows 15, 18, and 20 are the standard. If I love the server, sure leave a big tip, and we all like getting big tips, but I think, as an establishment, it lacks decorum when customers are given the option of 20% at the low end, going upward to 23 and 25. You're cheap if you select other, and feel gouged if you select 25 because you're lazy, or because the server is standing right over you. We all want our server to be compensated adequately, and they certainly deserve to be. The uncomfortable pressure to do so today took away from my otherwise good meal.
Took my mother to City Cafe for a pre-concert dinner. I had a reservation but arrived early and was accommodated quickly. Parking lot was only a block away, $11. I understand they have free valet parking but no sign about that out front. We were seated upstairs which was better, being a bit quieter, but involved lots of stairs.
Good, but not extensive selection of wines and beers, tho server could not really answer a simple question about one beer so I passed. Interesting appetizers...we shared a corn fritter app which was delish. Being a vegetarian I was glad to find several choices. The food was fresh, the mains were hearty servings, and service was on target without being intrusive. Nice artwork on the walls!
Uncomfortable seating, subpar food, and basic service.
Ate dinner prior to BSO concert at Myerhoff. Food and service both excellent.
As usual, the food offerings at City Cafe were an interesting blend and the food served is always delicious. However, be aware that though the website says free valet parking is offered after 5 pm, it is no longer provided and street parking is limited.
Great food. One of the best omelettes I have ever had — the Angry Omelette. The Veggie Benedict was also good. Seems like a good place for evening activity as well.
Honey wings were delicious! My husband had the short rib pot roast and I had the crab cake dinner and both were amazing! We love City Cafe and will definitely be returning soon.
Super friendly staff, great drinks and food!
For a friends’s night out, we met at City Cafe on a Monday evening to take advantage of “Steak Night” specials. The special menu did not disappoint. The filet mignon was tender and delicious and each of the selected sides were well-prepared. It was a fun evening. Service was friendly and attentive.
Very attentive and friendly staff and the food was excellent. Thumping music was a touch too loud for comfort.
I went for my birthday dinner and it was great! The waiter was very friendly and super nice. I enjoyed my time. Thank you
We always have a great meal here. Monday nights are just great! Not only Steak night but half price wine! Best Buy in town!
We always enjoy City Cafe and the food and service is always outstanding!
Four of us had Sunday Brunch and everyone really loved their food! It was a nice day to sit outside on the sidewalk and watch life go by while we enjoyed a leisurely meal. The service was pleasant and efficient. I like the handheld credit card machines--so much better than disappearing inside with my card. Great experience.
I'm a regular at City Cafe, but was underwhelmed this go-around by the quality of service and selection of vegan options for my friends at brunch. After calling ahead and asking about vegan options, I was told all their options (including those on the dinner menu) would be available to select from for brunch and that I should put notes in the reservation about this. I did so, but on the day of, the vegan falafel option was sadly not available. This was very disappointing for my vegan friends.
Additionally, our server was not the most accommodating either. When ordering, the server chose to remain at one end of the table, making those at the opposite end have to shout our order down the table. When it came to splitting the check for our 9 person meal, instead of making it easy and splitting it for us up front, we spent abut 10 minutes debating how to calculate and split it. We even asked at one point what the best way to do it was and were told to write the amount with our last names on the opposite side of the check. In the end, we asked the server to split our checks for us and this was done immediately. Why was it not done in the first place?
When I finally paid my portion of the check, the server hovered over me as if they were watching what tip option I selected. I always do 20% because I want fair wages for servers, but I was honestly not impressed.
In any case, the food was good (as it always is), but I don't think I'll ever bring vegans or groups to this restaurant again.
WE WENT ON LABOR DAY FOR MY SISTER-IN-LAWS BIRTHDAY. MY SON RECOMMENDED IT AS HE LIVES IN THE CITY. HE STATED "THE DESERTS ARE TO DIE FOR." WE HAD THE BRUNCH, AND IT WAS OUTSTANDING. MY DAUGHTER IS A VEGETARIAN AND SHE HAD SO MANY OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM FOR BOTH BREAKFAST AND LUNCH. SHE STATED THAT THIS WAS THE BREAKFAST SHE EVER HAD!! PORTIONS ARE VERY LARGE, AND WE DID NOT HAVE ROOM FOR DESERT, SO I LOOK FORWARD TO GOING BACK. IT WAS WONDERFUL!!
We were in Baltimore for the weekend and enjoyed a birthday celebration at City Cafe. Enjoyed the crab cakes and trout almondine with mashed potatoes and awesome green beans. Dessert was creme brulee and cobbler. Very nice.
Creative food, well-prepared food and great service. Will go back soon.
Excellent soft shell crabs & inventive/delicious cocktails!
Excellent meal. All four of us very happy with our orders. My Cityburger was fabulous, although somewhat messy eating. Peach cobbler was delicious but could have used a lot more peach. The best part of the evening was our waitress Jackie. Perfect service of course, but also thoughtful with a delightful sense of humor. She made the whole meal fun.
Love how the cafe is designed, quick service ,and food was delicious !Will come again soon!
This has always been a standout go to for my family for years. My daughter and I went and walked away a little
The food was great and the service was as well. The only bad thing is that there was left over lipstick on one of my friends’ glasses and no one sung happy birthday :(
I personally love their brunch menu, especially their GRAND MARNIER FRENCH TOAST! Do not find this to be overly sweet. If you have nut allergies this might not be a good option. The roasted nuts help add a kick of flavor, but also balance out the sweetness (in my opinion), so without it I don't think it'll be as tasty.
As usual, I had a great time at City Cafe. “Always a go to” place for me. The food and service were awesome!
Very pleasant staff, delicious light fare, gazpacho, roasted cauliflower, shrimp salad, Mediterranean salad. Especially appreciated the thoughtful waiter bringing two soup spoons without even being asked! Glad we were there before 7.......
Probably gets very noisy as the night progresses.
City cafe is always a good choice! Great food, great service and staff, and the sangria continues to be a treat we enjoy!
Food is always great!
We chose City Cafe because it was recommended online and we could make a reservation—an uncommon thing in charm city. A friend suggested the avocado toast—she LOVED it. So i ordered it and was underwhelmed by the HUGE piece of bread, underripe avocado that could not be spread, light dusting of crabmeat. My husband ordered an egg dish promised not to be spicy. He could hardly eat it for the heat it packed. One of our friends was unhappy with his bloody mary (don't know why) and sent it back. We were completely overwhelmed. Fortunately, we were with great company.
This is our second visit for Steak Night and both times the New York strip was overcooked. Twice in the dame night. My filet was supposed to be medium and got rare. When sent back it still came back as rare. There service was awful, long time to get out order, didn't bring steak knives unless asked. I used to love steak night, but no more.
Fantastic brunch! Great portions and delicious flavor combinations. We started with the fried green tomatoes with lump crab and had the fried chicken and biscuits and smoked salmon Benedict. Highly recommend!!
Great food, great service, fair prices, very nice and accommodating staff, very friendly and attentive manager, our only negative was the level of the noise (probably because of hard walls, ceilings, and floor). We really enjoyed the dining experience as did our friends. We will definitely go back. We highly recommend City Cafe.
