We made reservations for a post graduation lunch. Our party of 7 arrived 40 minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately. Our table was in the bar area.
It took 15 minutes for our server to approach, greet us with no smile or apology for the wait. He took our drink orders and we waited another 15 minutes for them to arrive. He was clearly a bartender, not a professional waiter. We felt rushed to order our food.
There’s was a large group seated next to us and they called over a manager for seemingly the same issues. It wasn’t until the manager was called that the server was apologetic to us and managed a grin.
Probably won’t be back to this establishment.
The City Café is a local hangout for those of us lucky to live in Mount Vernon. I had three friends from DC coming for brunch on Sunday and the entire experience was fantastic. They were thrilled with the atmosphere, the service and most of all, the food. The fried green tomatoes with lump crab meat were spectacular. The kitchen is still afraid to serve wet scrambled eggs, but I will forgive them this time. Thanks for the great afternoon!
Always great. Food is extremely delicious and service is great.
What can I say? City Cafe is an excellent choice for brunch, lunch, what have you. The food is excellent, the service is excellent, and it's a great value for the quality you get. This is a "go to" destination if you're hungry!
The seafood (grilled salmon and seared tuna) were not very good- did not taste like a fresh cut fillet
Made a reservation here for mother’s day and absolutely loved it! We came right at 2 and were sat within minutes. Our server was awesome and the food was DELICIOUS. Only thing I can complain about was sitting next to the kitchen watching all the delicious entrees come fresh out of the kitchen while you waited for your own, everything looked so good!!!
We went for Mother’s Day. My mom used a walker and they ga e us a seat with plenty of room. The food choices were many. We split the grand marinie French toast. I had a philly cheese steak omelette. All of our food was tasty.
Took my Mom here for breakfast. Always love and enjoy City Cafe.
They ran out of food dishes early in the evening. Not good
City Café is one of my FAVS. I was dining with my guy and my bestie and her husband. Neither of them have been there before. I got rave reviews of my choosing City Café and the entire party was pleased with the service, food , atmosphere and cost.
The food here is always on point.
Sidewalk eating is quite nice
We had a wonderful dinner before a show at the Meyerhoff. The food was excellent and our waiter was personable and just the right amount of attentive. The food is a little on the pricier side, but they don’t skimp on portions and everything we had was phenomenal.
The cheese on the nachos were cold, and the falafel was dry and bland. I made reservations for happy hour, but was sat in a section that wasn't considered happy hour worthy.
Love steak Mondays! Always friendly service. Food is always delicious. Keep up the good work!
The food was great but it took most of an hour to get our food
Service was good. Took way too long for food to come out. Salmon Pad Tai was unremarkable. Room we ate in was very loud. I prefer upstairs or front room.
Great variety for a large group and friendly service made this a great venue for a large group dinner
Server not overly friendly to us. We asked about a specific drink and both decided to forgo the cocktails. She didn’t seem to like that and seemed less friendly towards us after that. Later when a table with a well known person was seated near us, she became suddenly quite friendly...curious...
My husband and I had dinner with another couple before going to the symphony. The menu was varied with nice selections. The food was flavorful with a nice presentation.
Staff was impersonal (not overly friendly or attentive) but satisfactory and courteous.
The wait staff seemed a little put off at first as they asked for our drink order as soon as we sat down and we asked if they could give us a few moments.
The atmosphere and decor was upbeat and had a nice vibe.
A nice place to go before the theater with great prices.
Go every year before the Brit Floyd concert - food is always great! Service was slow and the hostess overheard me so this to my friends - manager came right over and waited on us himself . Big thumbs up to the manager it made out experience excellent.
We love the City Cafe and come here often. The food is always good and service great. Well located and a must before any even at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
another delicious lunch. Place was buzzing. It was hard to select one of the many items for lunch. Finally selected the shrimp on a crescent and wasn’t disappointed. Shrimp were tender, sweet and flavourful and the spice was light and delicious. Thank you for your modern menu and consistently. A great staff too.
1st is was amazing which made me go back, 2nd time is was horrible. Food took over and hour and a half to come out, and was still wrong and had to be sent back. The manager explained they were super busy and please give them another try. I came back for the 3rd and last time. During the week is completely different than on the weekend. The menu itself is different an very limited for Brunch. I will not be returning to patronized this business EVER.
Excellent as always. Our out-of-town guest loved the cream of crab soup and fried oysters. The tuna poke had a very generous portion of seared tuna. The pesto sauce on the chicken penne was light and creamy. All delicious.
Amazing still. I’ve been dining here for 10 years!
Appetizers were a hit. Service was good but a little slow. Good variety of dishes so each person in-our group found something they liked.
Always great food & service. Very busy (glad we reserved). Will go again
Loved the scallops risotto and cucumber martini. Overall, it was a pleasurable dining experience for our party of four.
City Cafe is our go to restaurant on BSO nights. We were tight on time but Seth our server and the entire team got us our food quickly and we did not feel rushed even when we were brought the wrong sandwich. The problem was quickly corrected. The whole team handled it well
Food is always good but this night we found the wait staff to be curt and uninterested in our service. Disappointing...
Not great service this time. One server for the entire second floor. He was way too busy to even check with us one time. Asked 3 times for an ice tea refill. Asked for additional dressing / never got it.
The food was very good, and there was an extensive selection including many gluten free options. Our server Seth was outstanding. City Cafe is a great pre-theater (Meyerhoff) destination.
I love City Cafe. I love the food. The employees are great. But I hate being seated near the marble bar and having a bartender as our server. They are too busy to do that and be an effective server. Plus that is the loudest section of the restaurant. We were happy to wait for a table upstairs and were told at first that there would be one soon. But then when a manager saw that we were still waiting 10 minutes later he insisted on seating us and we wound up in the worst possible seats. I’d have rather waited longer and sat upstairs. Noise level destroys my enjoyment of the food—and the absolute worst noise is the sound of dishes and utensils literally being THROWN into sinks a few feet away.
After church on Sunday we usually like to go to City cafe
The food is flavorful and inventive without being intimidating. There is always something new to try and the staff do a great job providing recommendations tailor to the diners.
Always a pleasant meal and walk away happy. Good restaurant for the neighborhood, can be a little noisy.
I went to City Cafe with two friends for brunch on Easter Sunday and we had a fabulous time. We were seated as soon as we got there. The menu was extensive and had alot of great selections. We ordered pancakes, french toast (bites), butternut squash soup, fruit salad, bacon, turkey sausage and potatoes (we may have overdid it) but it was WORTH it! Everything was delicious. We will be back in the Summer
The management is very rude. I found this at their other location as well. It is ridiculous when one has a reservation not to seat the people who are already present. Why do they have to wait for one other person to come in order for the party to be seated. The whole purpose of a reservation is to be seated at a table and not have to wait in the entry way. I will not be coming back to this restaurant.
excellent dining experience. food was fantastic
