The Four Seasons St Louis is partnering with James Beard Award winning Chef Gerard Craft to bring you Cinder House. The menu centers around the kitchens 14 ft wood-burning hearth. Located on the iconic 8th floor of Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis, Cinder House showcases sweeping views of the Gateway Arch and downtown skyline.

“Some foods taste so much more complex when cooked on a wood fire,” Craft says. “Grilling is a universal technique so the menu reflects many different cultures but the food will be heavily influenced by the grilling mecca of South America.”

Craft’s focus on simple foods with bold flavors is highlighted throughout the menu and includes several steak selections and rotating grilled items. From grilled pickles to grilled lamb ribs in soy, lime and garlic with a mango-honey glaze, dishes feature enticing techniques and flavors.

Dine indoors with warm wood and stone interiors or venture out onto the new outdoor lounge and upbeat bar area.

The food was fine, but overpriced. The service was terrible. There was no one at the hostess stand, so we waited almost 10 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was mostly empty. Then, we waited another 10 minutes or so for a server to come over. And it wasn’t even a server - it was the bartender. For a $50 per person brunch, I would expect to have a server and be taken care of promptly. We will not return.

We were new to Cinder House, and it did not disappoint. The ambience was perfect, we got a patio table with a straight clear view of the Arch by the pool/fountain. It took a little longer to get our table than preferred, but we waited in the bar. Staff were attentive and nice. Dinner was delicious. Great casual but romantic date spot.

Food and service fantastic. I would recommend this fine dining to anyone looking to enjoy dinner with a beautiful view of downtown rooftop. The only complaint I have are some of the prices are too expensive. Ask questions about prices before you order $10.00 bottle of sparkling water by my surprise.

The special brunch menu had so many great options. The crabmeat benedict was superb. We usually enjoy dining at Cinder House. The ambiance is nice and there are great views of the arch and downtown. The restaurant is actually also very family friendly as well.

Three of us went to the Cinder House Fathers Day Brunch (an 11:45 am reservation). It was disappointing, certainly not what you’d expect at a Gerard Craft restaurant or a Four Seasons hotel. My husband and adult son stopped by the whiskey and beer tasting going on in the lobby, while I was seated at our table. No one, and I mean not one single staff member (including the hostess, who breezed past me a couple times) came to our table to fill up water glasses, ask for a drink order, or even welcome me. Ten minutes later, my husband and son come to the table. Still no one. All three of us went up to the buffet portion of the brunch (charcuterie, cheese, fruit, pastries) to get started at least eating. Even that was a little disappointing - the smoked fish (I presume trout) was picked over (a replacement never appeared); there were no crackers or sliced bread (that, too, empty) for the cheese or charcuterie; the fruit included only cantaloupe, honeydew and pineapple. After finally flagging down the hostess, our server showed up. Fortunately, the hostess provided menus, so knew what we wanted and could immediately order drinks and entrees. Our server said our drinks would be complimentary, which was a nice touch. But then the drinks never appeared. In fact, our entrees arrived before our drinks. I noticed that our drinks were sitting at the end of the bar, so, tired of waiting, I went to the bar and picked two of them them up. The bartender helped, bringing the third to the table. Overall, the restaurant is lovely. The entrees were delicious. We weren’t in a rush and wanted to sit back and enjoy ourselves. But the place was maybe half-full, and we counted at least 5 servers, the hostess, and what appeared to be two managers who were cleaning and setting tables. I saw other tables’ servers more often than my own. But having eaten at multiple Craft restaurants multiple times over the years, I was really surprised and disappointed.

First you have to pay to Park…$10 + tip. No complementary parking. Had 1:00 reservation for table outside in the shade. Totally unprepared for us. Waited 10 minutes for them to clear off a table and set it. Restaurant was not at all crowded. It was a Saturday and we have been to Cinder House before for lunch and were quite happy. This time it was a brunch only menu…no a la carte. $39 not including drinks or taxes. There was a buffet that was supposed to have all types of bread, fresh fruit and charcuterie. Brunch food is not what we wanted but I decided to take a look at the buffet which looked picked over. Fresh fruit consisted of honeydew, cantelope and a few slices of pineapple. Charcuterie looked totally unappetizing. By this time we had been seated for another 10 minutes with no server to be seen. Nobody even came by to say they would be right with us. Got up and left. Told the one hostess about it as we left and she was not at all interested and could have cared less. The only one who noticed and was very apologetic was the parking attendant. He saw we had only been there for 20 minutes or so and asked if everything was ok. We told him what happened and he said that management should know. I hope he told them and I hope “management” ups their game. You don’t expect this at a Four Seasons even if the STL Four Seasons is a Four Seasons “lite”! I believe the restaurant is overseen by Gerald Craft and you don’t expect this disaster to happen at one of his restaurants. I hope management and Craft read this…some real motivation and oversight needs to happen.

Food was excellent yet a bit pricey. Our waitress was awesome. The hostess needs a bit more training. We were trying to decide if we wanted to sit inside or outside. Thought we might go check it out. She thought we wanted to be seated then decide. Regardless, we are the customers. Place was wide open inside and out. She basically told us we really needed to decide because it would be a hassle to move. Not cool. A bit rude actually.

A great place to eat in the summer if you want outstanding food, service and views. I love going to Cinder House which is located inside of The Four Seasons. It kind of makes. you feel as if you are on vacation. The food is A++++++++. I have never had anything bad here. The servers are kind and attentive. The outside patio is devine with views of the Arch and the old power plant. It is especially nice at night. In the summer you can watch the kids play in the pool. I absolutely love this place for casual dining and for special occasions. Highly recommend you go to Cinder House soon!

Our server was great, the view and atmosphere wonderful but the food …. Nope. I can’t believe the Four Seasons puts this out. I ordered a Kale Cesar + Chicken. The Cesar was fine / nothing to right home about and they should be capable of better but the chicken was bad — dry and tough. I’m guessing it was cooked and let it sit out on a warming plate for about an hour till someone asked for chicken on the salad. Unfortunately, that person was me. Not that I wanted anymore of it but it was also a small portion. Given the service and lovely outdoor space it’s a shame that executing a tasty $23 chicken Cesar isn’t possible for the restaurant.

Although I did enjoy my food (omelet, canadian bacon, fried potatoes and sourdough toast), I felt it needed just a hint more of flavor, but it still was very good and the customer service was on point. I did wish they had more options for brunch (i.e. more loaded french toast, waffle and pancake options). I still was very satisfied, I'd like to reiterate that! It'd be my pleasure to come back - but maybe for dinner on the second-go-around.

With exception of the view, wine and dessert, the food was overpriced and totally forgettable. We had a Hen of the woods mushroom appetizer that was quite good. I had the Pork Chop, which was overdone. My wife had their veggie rice bowl; nothing spectacular. We ordered a nice bottle of The Prisoner, which was great as usual, although waaayyy overpriced. A bottle of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, that is priced around $17 at Trader Joe’s is listed for $90 on the Cinder House menu. Dessert was an excellent Guava Panna Cotta. Maybe we’re spoiled, but when they charge $130 for a $42 bottle of wine and can’t prep a pork chop the correct medium rare temperature, no claim of a James Beard nomination is warranted.

My wife and I went here for an anniversary. Parking was simple and easy although we were there on a sunday. Going into the 4 seasons entrance made it very easy. Food was delicious. Waiter was prompt and knowledgeable. We were able to go outside once we finished eating and enjoyed the views of the Mississippi and the skyline. All in all it was a great meal with great service. Not much more I could ask for.
