Chowder Pot IV
always a great place for seafood. do not let the outside fool you. the outside of the building looks run down, but the food is the excellent. great service too, even for a group of 9.
I was visiting from out of town and was craving seafood. I am not in CT too often. I ate at the Chowder Pot about 12 years ago and loved it. I found it on Open Table and was happy to see they are still around. Our meal was excellent and our server was very nice and polite. I had the clam strips and scallops. They were excellent and the portion size was right on. I could barely finish. I loved the bread before dinner too. It was so good!! We went on Thursday night so the crowd was not too bad. Will be back the next time I am in CT.
We were a party of 11 which included 5 children. The waitress was wonderful. She took care of all of our needs without any issues. The calimari appetizer was great as well as stuffed mushrooms. All entree portions were perfect and tasted great.
Our waitress was wonderful! Food portions were huge!
Good food and service. Restaurant could use a little face lift but not bad overall.
It has a relaxed, and quiet atmosphere. Of course, we were there on a Wednesday evening. Food was really good. And, it was my husband's birthday, which was acknowledged by the establishment. Great place to eat for sea food lovers.
Most of our food was luke warm . The stuffed, as well as another persons in our party, was very dry. My baked potato looked like it was old and overcooked, as well as several of the other peoples in our party. Another person in our party had fish, and he said it had no taste at all. The lazy mans lobster was overpriced and had way too much stuffing. We have been to your Branford location several times, and were very happy with the food, so we were looking forward to dining at your location . Big disappointment.
This place is a staple to go to and enjoy seafood. They give large portions, enough to take home and have another meal. The service was outstanding!
I love this place. The food and service is always good and consistent. Great that they take a reservation. I wish the Branford restaurant would do the same.
My kids took me here for my birthday to celebrate with my favorite dinner Lobster 🦞. Karen our server was Awesome and made our night fantastic ❣️ Been coming here for decades and can’t wait to return❣️

I love the fact that you can make a reservation on open table
Our waitress was amazing even through an indecisive guest. Was very polite, professional and attentive.
Good food but way too much unless you can take it home.
Always a pleasure service was great along with the food just wish chowder pot offered coupons or specials
The food was absolutely delicious. Being able to reserve online is the best.
Service was very good and the server was polite , friendly, and professional
Excellent food! Lobsters and seared scallops were done to perfection. Our waitress was very attentative and pleasant. We will be returning
The wait was not much to get seated the food was good, the only thing was we waited a long time for the food to come. but it was worth the wait.
One of our favorite restaurants. Never had a bad meal. Consistently excellent!!
The restaurant is very tired. The food was sub par. My lobster tail was over cooked and my baked potato was under cooked. The salad was served lukewarm.
Rick, Thank you for visiting us and taking the time to submit a review. We are sorry you were not happy with any part of your experience. We would like to hear more about your visit, was anything done to rectify it that evening etc. If you would be willing to call the restaurant (860)244-3311 and speak with Sue the General Manager it would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, the Chowder Pot
Excellent waiter. Brian. Paid close attention to us and made us feel welcomed.
Server was very good, anticipated ours needs, was efficient, and followed thru with our requests in timely manner.
Great seafood place at a very reasonable price. Whenever we are in Hartford we always eat here.
Our server Ayanna was excellent....best waitress we ever had!!! Food was great!
Awesome food at reasonable prices. Had 2 lobster tails, unbelievably delicious. Everyone should have this as one of their "go-to" places.
First time going for lunch with a friend...we were very pleased with the variety on the menu...so many choices. Waiter was attentive but not bothersome. Food was very good....I had the lobster, crab and shrimp salad - very well done and my friend had fried oysters - she said they were really good. We both agree we will come back to Chowder Pot IV in the near future.
Waitress were fantastic, attending to our every needs. Food was just tremendous.
Always delicious stuffing for the lobster and shrimp is the best
Great. Loved it there
This was by far the WORST experience at this location. We were a party of six with a reservation for 6:45 pm. We weren’t seated until 7:15 pm. We ordered drinks finally at around 7:40 pm. I ordered a glass of Ros’e which was hot and nasty so I sent it back and ordered a special they had called a peach sangria. That was worse than the first drink. No peach flavor at all. I apologised and sent it back for an iced tea instead. Although a little too sweet, I managed because I hate to be a bother. I ordered the twin lobster tails my husband ordered the fried shrimp and we both had stuffed mushrooms and old bay shrimp as appetizers. The apps were perfect no complaints at all. My lobster tails were cold and a little crusty but again I hate to be a bother so I just let it be. My husbands fried shrimp were literally fried with the shell still on them! I could not believe it! I have NEVER ordered fried shrimp with the shell on them EVER! And I don’t mean just the tail part, I know the tail normally still has the shell on it. This was literally the ENTIRE shrimp that was covered in shell and batter. Not to mention the fact that we were there for a total of 2 1/2 hours! It’s sad that we were treated this way as my family and I have been to this location numerous times over the years. I can’t believe that I have to write this review. I’m highly upset about this so I just won’t EVER go back to this location.
Thank you for visiting and taking the time to submit a review. We are sorry your experience did not go well. We would like to hear more about it, who your server was, how they handled it, did they attempt to compensate you in some way, etc. If you would be willing to call the restaurant (860)244-3311 and speak with the General Manager Sue it would be most appreciated. Sincerely The Chowder Pot
Service was really great! We were seated immediately (reservation made prior to arriving) and our waitress was extremely kind and sincere. Food was great!
Went for the anniversary celebration. Amazing meal at amazing prices. Always have a good meal but this last one was an exceptional value.
Went for their anniversary menu. Great prices for the food and as always great seafood.
Would recommend, but with reservations. DON’T order lazy man’s lobster! Small serving hidden by the $2.00 extra stuffing on top. Lobster was overdone...very tough. However, everyone else’s meals were very good...baked stuff shrimp, crumb topped fish and clam strips.
My wife and I had a great dinner and great service.
I had very high hopes as Chowder Pot came highly recommended. I hope that my experience was a one-off, but I can’t see myself returning.
We had reservations for 2 adults and 3 children for 7:15, however still waited until nearly 7:30 to be sat. Once sat my wife and I put in our drink orders an appetizer, and placed our children’s meals so they weren’t waiting. We ordered 3 kids waters, 2 seltzer’s, and a beer. It took more than half an hour and me physically having to go to the host to see our server again just to get the waters. She did seem extremely busy and was very friendly. It is likely they just need more staff.
The lobster bisque was tasty though seemed to be missing any lobster chunks but did have a shell piece. My wife’s baked stuffed shrimp she said was excellent however my meal was ill-conceived and largely inedible. I ordered the special Stuffed Alaskan King Crab Legs. What I received were crab legs which had been cut in half, piled on with stuffing and baked until so dry that what crab was on the plate was rubber.
We spent $170 ($140 meal/ $30 tip) which was largely what I expected price wise, but the food and service were more on par with a 2 for $20.
It’s possible we hit a busy night and I just picked the wrong dinner item, and I hope that’s true, but for me I don’t think I’ll be finding out anytime soon.
Sir, Thank you for visiting us and taking the time to submit a review. Apologies for the experience you had, it certainly isn't what we strive for on a daily basis. We will use your unfortunate experience to help train our staff so it doesn't happen again. If you would be willing to call 860-244-3311 and ask for Dennis I'd like to find out who the server was and get your information so we can make it up to you in some way. Sincerely, The Chowder Pot
Even though we made reservations, our table wasn't set for us and we had to wait for them to set it. Seemed like it took a very long time for the drink order to arrive. Then our food order took even longer. I had ordered the king cut prime rib which wasn't really that large, especially after I trimmed off all the fat ( which was quite a bit). The clam chowder was bitter tasting, the lobster had black spots on the outside and when my son cracked it open the inside had them as well. The waitress did get him a fresh lobster. Over all, all the portions seemed smaller than usual. We have been coming here for our sons birthday for the last 8 years or so but I think it might be time to find someplace else.
Could use some updating inside. Very dark. Service was excellent we went during a busy time.
Salad was good places a little sketchy food decent
