Chinato Ratings and Reviews
The service was disappointing. After dropping off our drinks, our server disappeared for at least 15 minutes until we called him over to place our order. He never reviewed the specials with us. Overall, a disappointing experience given the mediocre service.
This was my first time at Chinatos. The restaurant week 3 course menu was a good way to sample the food. I had a great salad and the chocolate mousse cake...both were very good. The fish was great at the restaurant, but seemed rare and tough the next day. The service was good and attentive.
Our 14 year old son was with us and the menu was a little foody for him. He was a sport and tried something but didn’t like it. The waiter was great and had the chef whip up some fettuccini Alfredo (not on the menu) from scratch that my son loved. The commitment to customer satisfaction was fantastic. I highly recommend Chinato!
We were seated and it took at least a solid 10 minutes before we were greated and brought water. We were passed by so many bussers and servers without a single “we will be right there”. Finally our server came. He knew his dishes well and did a good job though.
It’s been a year since I’ve last been there but I used to go all the time. The food quality has definitely taken a turn for the worse. Three out of our 4 meals were below average and one was good. Not good value for the money. The drinks were pretty good though.
I think this is the last time I will come there. If I’m going to spend that kind of money, I’d rather go to Lola, greenhouse, red or any of the other restaurants around that area.
This is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in the Cleveland area. The food is absolutely amazing and in New York or Chicago would be three times the price. I love the ambience there is a great bar and staff was attentive. Unfortunately on this outing when our waitress asked if she could to camp or wine at the table she opened up an Argiano 1999 Brunello and simply dumped it in the carafe. My friend and I watched in horror as this was done unable to even say anything. On top of this she served us 2003’ Ch d’Yquem in Bordeaux glasses. Regardless both wine and the food were amazing and I will go back over and over again.
Next time I will give the waitstaff a bit of instruction before wine service.
We went in for a belated anniversary celebration, and just to get away from the kids. We ended up going during a cav’s game, and they held our reservation for us because we couldn’t find parking at first. Our waiter Ryan was kind and patient, explained everything we would want to know about the menu, the kitchen was amazingly fast getting the food out, it tasted amazing, and we ended up having a conversation with the next table over that just put everything over the top! Would highly recommend Chinato to anyone looking to get away!
The food was amazing! We loved everything! I would highly recommend the supli and the rabbit appetizer. I had the fig infused bourbon cocktail which was honestly one of the best drinks I ever had. Our waiter was great even though the restaurant was packed. I would highly recommend!
This was our first visit to Chinato, celebrating a birthday with my husband. We wanted romantic, Italian, and fun ambiance, and it checked all the boxes! Server Michael was helpful but gave us time to linger. Artichokes roman style were truly outstanding. Husband's bacon polenta with braised beef was amazing comfort food. Swordfish with olives was a small-ish portion but needed more bright flavors to really sing. Great wine list, especially Italian, although somewhat pricey. Prices were quite reasonable. We will be back!
Great service, authentic tasty food. Our bill was big because we had to try so many dishes. We sat in the bar area next to large windows. It was a quiet night so the bar was not busy. The waiter spent time talking to us and giving really good recommendations. They even had a wine from Velenosi winery in Italy where we had visited.
The food and wine were excellent!! I can't same for the ambiance. We had a table for two that was about eight inches from the next table for two. Their conversation was such that my wife and I had a difficult time conversing ourselves. It would be much more enjoyable if there was a modicum of privacy for the diners.
Anchoring Cleveland's East Fourth enclave of fabulous food, Chinato brings fresh and simple Italian fare upscale while keeping it accessible. Including pizza on the menu, for example, along with interesting takes on salads, pasta, meat and seafood dishes. Loved the creative, ample and beautifully presented antipasto platter served on an Italian tile. Much to enjoy for appetites big and small in a cool low-key ambience. Our server was an expert guide on both food and wine menus - and you have to love a wine list that offers several Italian reds and whites by the glass before listing anything from other wine regions; now that's Italian!
5 of us had dinner at Chinato on a Friday night. Our server was attentive and friendly. The menu had a lot of variety and I believe our 3 guests enjoyed their meals. However, my husband and I did not enjoy ours and didn't finish either. I had the stuffed swordfish and my husband had the braised beef. The presentation was artful but the seasonings and textures were not to our liking.
