What Insiders Are Saying
Jose Andres’ new place isn’t quite up to the level of his other spots, but it’s a fun time for Peruvian, Japanese, and Chinese fusion.
This was our first visit, and our server, Luis, made excellent suggestions to introduce us to the menu, from cocktails to dessert. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We will definitely return!
Drinks were very creative and inventive! Most of the dishes we ordered were delish - in particular all the dim sum, the steak and the fried rice. The classic and beet ceviches were also excellent. The salad with the hearts of palm was only okay and the chicken stew was so bland we didn’t finish it. Service was pretty terrible and we had to chase down wait staff to take serving plates away and order more drinks.
Excellent food from Jose Andres as per usual! It's a great blend of Peruvian, Chinese, and Japanese dishes that is sure to contain something to please everybody.
food here are way too sour
China Chilcano is superb in every respect. We simply cannot imagine a better, more consistent and exciting restaurant. The wild catfish in a grilled bao bun is phenomenal -- as are so many other dishes on both ends of the Peruvian to Asian spectrum their creative menu presents.
My favorite restaurant in DC. The food is fresh and delicious and interesting. The dim sum is creative and fun. I always bring my "out of town" foodie friends to this restaurant and nobody is ever disappointed!
The tasting menu! Excellent.
Enjoy the food, is something different. If you like fish would definetely recommend Ceviche
First time here, really enjoyed the food and flavor options. Next time might have to do the Jose option which is kind of pricey $75 per person but would be a great way to taste a lot of the options
Good food, outside the box. The creative South American-Asian cuisine took us some time to make our choices. But all were first rate. The shrimp are flavorful, not bland, no matter which Version you try. The dump,8ngs , crisp and zesty, Pisco Sours go with anything.
It was a very busy Sunday night—crowded and loud—but CC moved everything along very efficiently. The menu here is fantastic, with a page of entres, tapas, and side dishes. There were 3 of us and we shared about 7 small dishes, including one entre. Every single thing was exceptional. I cannot remember the names of things, except for the beef entre and shrimp/pork dumplings, which I highly recommend. I am really looking forward to my next visit there.
We had several dishes: chaufa con pato, causa rellena, pulpo al olivo and ceviche. All were beautifully presented and flavorful. The Malbec we had was also great. Our only complaint would have been that two of the dishes were slightly over salted. Great experience overall!
Great service and ambiance. Food is definitely for an eater who is aware about the fusion theme.
Excellent lomo saltado and buns...the aeroporto is very nice, but they seem to have halved the portion.
Food was good. Many employees standing around but dishes lingered on the table. Wouldn't make eye contact to see if they could help. Seemed not to be well trained or at all into it. Not the service I would expect from a Jose restaurant especially at the prices.
We arrived after a matinee at the Shakespeare Theatre when it was cold and raining. The restaurant’s warm and welcoming ambiance was most welcomed. We were quickly seated, ordered a bottle of wine and checked out the menu. The three of us ordered 2 dishes each and shared. All was delicious, dumplings, ceviche, shrimp, beef and we shared a wonderful dessert. Our waiter was helpful and just a delightful person and added to our experience.
We’ve been here before and shall return.
This place is great!
Food is interesting and absolutely delicious!
Service was a little slow, but very friendly and attentive. If you are going for lunch, I would definitely recommend the “lunch in an hour” option. However, the food was delicious and I will definitely return for dinner.
Food was all a little off except for one of four dishes we tried.
Consistently operates at a high level with great service and creative food offerings, as well as familiar ones. Never even had only a mediocre meal there. Jose makes it always seem new.
Best Chinese Peruvian in DC
Awesome ... we love it here!
Outstanding food--truly extraordinary. Great place to share plates and have fun. Food is seriously good but not taken seriously!
Reservation is one time, and you end up getting seated 30 mins later. If the Chefs menu is supposed to be the best dishes, I don’t think I’ll be back.
Four of us went for dinner. Two ordered the tasting menu and two ordered several plates to share. Each of us loved every single dish. I have never experienced that. Outstanding menu.
Enjoyed my selection but choices are too limited for my taste. Service was excellent.
Very cool spot with great food
Service was good and attentive. Food was delicious except the ceviche of the day (cod). I usually love ceviches but this one might have been the worst flavor-combination I've ever had. Also too much juice and no chips/cracker or anything to scoop with.
Pegao Norteño (lamb) was the best dish and Szechuan Chili Wontons (shrimp & pork) were second best. I also liked their special drink (Can't remember the name)
Read a review about CC in 1843 years ago. Looked forward to visiting. Took my nephew, who lives in DC area. We were not disappointed.
We went to China Chilcano for a birthday dinner. The food was delicious and the server was able to answer all of our questions. Highly recommend
The food at China Chilcano is outstanding, and so is the great variety of pisco sours flavored with many fruits, e.g. passio fruit (maracuya) or grapefruit. The noise level is high but it is still possible to have a conversation. Highly recommended.
Too much starch. Overpriced tasting menu.
Great Peruvian/Asian fusion cuisine; small portions, not inexpensive
In Peru there is a tradition of chinese restaurants called "Chifas". This restaurant combines some traditional Peruvian foods (cebiche, anticuchos, pescado a lo macho, camarones al ajillo, papas a la huancaina, etc.) with some interesting Chinese takes on Peruvian food. They have two Peruvian beers and very good pisco sours, and the service was excellent. I thought the portions were too small (about half a serving of cebiche, only one small skewer with 4 cubes of chicken on the anticucho, only about 4 shrimp on the camarones al ajillo), and it was farely pricey: with tip nearly $100 for one person, with one beer and 1 pisco sour. Very tasty. If you love Peruvian food, go there!
Service rushed. Very noisy environment. Foid quality fair
Loved the food! Everything I had or sampled was fabulous. New and unusual combinations which all turned out to be delicious. And the space is very fun and creative and energetic. It is quite noisy and our server, even after prompting, did not speak loudly or slowly enough. For a complicated menu with a number of unknown ingredients, good and understandable descriptions are very beneficial. Still, we had a very good time and, again, the food was fabulous!
This is my first time trying Peruvian food and it was fantastic. My Peruvian friend wanted to go and try them out. We both loved the flavors. The service was really good and the items we ordered were spaced out well. The pisco menu is great too. The only negative was that our server forgot to put in one of our small plates (the california roll) but it worked out since we were pretty full and tried a small dessert instead. We figure we'll try that next time we go.
Tasting menu waa fun!'
We had a great time saturday night but unfortunately our waitress was terrible. She was in a bad mood and it really made an impact on our dinner as it was my birthday as well. Thankfully we were sitting next to two fun girls who made all kinds of food and drink recommendations! I would definitely go back but request another waitress!
Excellent food! The Chilcano tasting menu is a great value for downtown DC and $55 per person.
The service was a tad slow at the very beginning when we sat down and at the end when trying to pay, but everything in between was superb (and with multiple courses from the tasting menu and multiple drink orders, they had ample time to make up for the slow start.)
Overall - highly recommend.
