Amazing and interesting cuisine. Please get the yuca app
Would give negative stars if I could…..
I wanted to taste the Peruvian Cuisine and was visiting this joint in DC for the the first time.
Twice I called to confirm my reservation. I even did some research on the dishes in the Menu I would I like to order. We took an Uber to the restaurant as Parking is an issue in such places.
With a great expectation to be treated to some unique cuisine I took the trouble to reach the restaurant on time for the reservation.
I was kind of shocked to notice how nonchalantly the stewardess ushered us to a dark corner, with a metal chair and a joint sofa in front of a tiny table with some uninviting cushions lying around. Every other spot in China Chicano restaurant looked interesting, lighted and appetizing, except the hole that they expected us to sit in to have our Dinner.
Also, we were not having a take-out, yet the staff was quite cool about the fact that we were dissatisfied with their table allotment. And that too when there were at least 3 Tables empty with more that 2 chairs, but they preferred to wait for a large group to occupy them rather that allot them to us on request.
I also said that we will be ordering multiple items and hence need a bigger table that meant that the bill would be really good but they didn't care at all. There loss!!
Stunned by their inhospitality, we preferred to call it a day and believe me I will certainly taste Peruvian food but certainly not in DC’s China Chilcano.
Fue perfecto para pasar un lindo rato con amigos. La comida muy rica y sin largas esperas. Lo recomiendo 100%.
amazing food, beautiful place, the presentation was awesome and really such a wonderful experience. Also not super expensive which was a plus! a drink + 3-course meal for 2 people was about 70 which is literally amazing for what the place is.
This was my first time at this restaurant and I was excited to try the different foods! However, we had a server who was either having an off day or just has a horrible attitude. He was outright rude, and I’m not sure why. But when we didn’t know immediately what we wanted to drink and needed a minute, we then had to wait 15-20. When we wanted to drink a bit before ordering food, he never came back for the food order and just grabbed the menus an hour later and gave us the bill! So I didn’t even get to try the food. 😳
Another restaurant by Jose Andres, this one focused on an Asian-Peruvian fusion menu. On an evening just before a Caps NHL game was to be played nearby, it was very busy and loud, but the service was quite good make sure to save room to sample those. Highly recommended.
Great food - the Pisco Happy hour is an amazing deal - we got there at 5:45 and they quickly took our order to fit it in. Masks are supposed to be on when talking with staff (the rule was a bit confusing). But the staff was very kind about the rule. Very happy this place is back!
So much variety, had to ask our most competent and kind waiter what to order! Great experience.
My husband and I were celebrating the anniversary of our first date, 15 years ago. The restaurant was packed. The hostess was wonderful. She set us at the bar and got us drinks (right away) while getting a table ready.
We ordered the chef’s choice special dinner. It was total of 12 courses (small plates) to share. Each one was better than the one before. Our waitress, Melissa was very attentive, but not overbearing. She was fun and polite. Drinks were just as good as the food. We were there for over 2 hours eating and drinking, almost the entire time. Our chef, Will Fung came to the table to see how we liked the food. He was also great at giving us some ideas for where to visit and eat. It was an absolutely flawless evening. Next time we return to DC, we’ll stop there again. We are recommending it to all our friends.
We enjoyed the chefs tasting menu. Every course was delicious. Lots and lots of food!
Great place to check out with a small group. Excellent menu with plenty of variety. Food was delicious.
Great food, good variety. the service was good and quick.
Amazing, our server was kind, helpful and funny. The food was sooo good. We enjoyed our time here coming back for sure.
Great, authentic Peruvian and other creative dishes!
One of my favorite places in DC. Asian fusion in a surprising way.
First time food was great environment was energetic, our server was wonderful and very knowledgeable would definitely recommend.
Loved the food and drinks. Was there for happy hour specials and tried all the appetizers - all were excellent. Tried a few main dishes for dinner and all were excellent. Highly recommend their Pisco Sours. Loved the atmosphere. Service was great. I will definitely return and also recommend to others.
Peruvian cuisine tends to be colorful and creative, commonly with Asian influence, and this was a fine example.
Furniture was in bad shape, with scratched wood tables, rusty metal chairs, torn vinyl coverings on booth benches, and unfinished chipboard wall units. Not sure if it's "shabby chic" or under construction. At worst, it was safe for skin and clothing contact.
Service was mostly prompt. Food was delicious. Pisco Hour is 4-6 pm, with discounts on a few drinks, appetizers, and small plates. But we had to send back the bill for correction, because at first they charged us full price.
We had a group event following a long day of conference activities and it was just perfectly executed. The food is sublime and the service is just absolute perfection. If your group doesn’t like to share it would still work but we had an awesome time passing big pots of food around and sharing. It was so fun and delicious.
Absolutely delicious!! Just as I remember pre pandemic.
Good food. Great vibes in the restaurant, but the service can be better.
While the food and service is consistently excellent in Jose Andres restaurant, my low rating is 100% due to the fact that I made this reservation under the assumption that the restaurant was requiring proof of vaccination. When I booked the reservation I was informed that this would be the case, and even downloaded the clear app as requested. I was beyond disappointed and even furious to find out that was the not the case. The restaurant did a very poor job of informing guests about the change in policy and as a result I cannot give a good rating. I'm immunocompromised even though vaccinated, and the restaurant was packed with folks not wearing masks. I have lost my trust with Jose Andres and cannot recommend this restaurant due to the lack of honesty and transparency.
Although I mentioned this was an anniversary meal on the app when making our reservation, there was no acknowledgement by the restaurant. Our food was excellent as always. Our server was polite, but did not ask if we wanted second drinks. He seemed to be more warmly responsive to other tables around us. All in all our experience was fine.
Cool vibe with creative food. Check this place out.
It was our friends’ 38th anniversary.t The Pico Hour menu had a variety of fabulous plates. Dinner dishes were also amazing. Complimentary champagne offered to the happy couple.
Second time at restaurant. I give it a B. Food was good not great. Nice waitstaff. Clean. Review limited by the food.
The food was amazing, our server, Kimet, was responsive in spite of having all of the outside tables, she was fun, and shared all of the food options.
The food??? OMG! Jose Andres never disappoints and I think my BF will be back without me for the Concolon! LOL
Food is delicious and service is always wonderful. I can always count on a quality meal from Jose Andres.
The menu is a great mix of Peruvian and Asian food. Two small plates and two large plates was more than enough for two people. I highly recommend trying a chilcano cocktail. The traditional is less sweet than the flavored ones, but great flavor for a cocktail.
I would come back again to try more things on the menu.
We've loved Jaleo, so decided to try China Chilcano and were not disappointed. The food was unique and excellent, especially liked the dumplings with chili oil. Great service, but pretty crowded and noisy. We ate inside because all are supposed to be vaccinated, but no one checked our cards, so we felt a little uneasy. We'll eat outside next time, but will definitely go again.
Excellent food, my 8 friends and I enjoyed every single dish and dessert, nice environment, friendly latin people.
My daughter and I brought one of her friends and we had a fabulous experience. Andres has once again created a unique menu incorporating South American and Asian elements. Having lived in both places, this is an outstanding fusion menu.
The food was fresh and our servers were excellent and informative. The staff were “just present enough” in the way that great restaurants enable great conversations over a meal
China Chilcano has moved to the top of my list for fun Washington meals with friends!
First time in DC, first time trying Jose Andres' restaurant. We love Peruvian and Asian food, my husband is Peruvian. We went for the Lomo Saltado which they were out of. Waitress didn't know what Chaufa was and was kinda rude about it. The only thing we liked was the Yucca fries, everything else from the Ginger Ale to the last bite was just awful. The Areopuerto (fried rice) was super salty, as if the only seasoning was soy sauce! We sent back the Aji de Gallina, it was luke warm and awful. We were tired from walking all day and it was late, we had no choice but to eat the awful food. Had to ask for extra white rice to mix the fried rice so that it would be editable for my daughter, and they charged us for it!!! Never again!
Great mix of cuisine. Topped off with a nice Pisco Sour.
One chicken dish was super salty. They were nice enough to re-cook for us but the second try was the same!! Couldn’t eat it in the end.
Amazing way to spend an anniversary
An interesting and tasty combination of latin, Chinese and Japanese influences, CC's Peruvian cuisine is a great departure from most other restaurants' offerings. We particularly liked shu mai dumplings, a rice dish with pork belly and sausage, a chicken stew and the signature mousse with passion fruit. Service was sweet and generally efficient and watchful, and we enjoyed being able to sit outside.
Fantastic creative food preparation, stunning plate presentation although the pictures you may want to post do not do the food justice because of the lighting. Great service- my favorite restaurant in the District.
Sampled 6 dishes. Small portions. 3 were good and 3 were not. Nothing so spectacular that I would recommend trying.
