My boyfriend and I stopped here for a quick, early dinner. The dining room has really cool decor and the overall ambiance is great, but the service was kinda really bad. Our server only came over twice - to take our order + bill. She didn’t ask us if we’ve been to the restaurant before, or bother to offer us another round of drinks. She also didn’t recommend any dishes that we should try. We also saw all the servers taking shots at the bar as we left, which was frustrating after the service we had.
The food was good. We ordered shisito peppers that were awesome, the traditional siu mai dumplings (they were fine, I probably wouldn’t order them again), the classic ceviche (pretty good, nice and refreshing) and the concolon. The concolon absolutely sucked. It tasted like something you would make coming home super drunk. The guy that brought it out mixed it up all together in front of us which made it look pretty gross. It was way too sweet, we couldn’t finish it.
Such a cute restaurant!! Excellent food and a great allergy friendly menu! :)
Our first time there and it was amazing! The drinks were as good as the food and plenty of vegetarian options
This was my 3rd visit. Went with my son this time. We shared 2 small plates and then the Aeropuerto with pork belly. If you go between 4 and 6 there are discounted prices on drinks and some of the small plates. I love all of the Jose Andres restaurants.
Innovative food. Lots of options. Will definitely return.
Food came way too fast and was mediocre for price point.
Another Jose Andres hit. We always love coming here, and it seems to be easier to get a table here than Oyamel, Zatinya, or Jaleo.
Great location to catch a show at the Warner. The service is quick and efficient. They were helpful and friendly. The place has energy but not so loud that you can’t have a conversation. Food was good with some interesting dishes.
Obed was awesome! He gave us great service
We were there for a Birthday celebration! All of the dishes were very delicious and our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and helpful
On my second visit to China Chilcano in a week, I found that the quality of the food was still excellent, and that the speed of service had improved, possibly because the restaurant was less busy. Go for the Pisco Sours, go again for the authentic Peruvian dishes.
We did everything wrong- we arrived late for our reservation and then discovered that we only had time for appetizers since we had a 7:30 performance. Throughout the entire debacle the staff was friendly and accommodating. Many thanks to them for their professionalism and the delicious dim sum.
Like all of Jose Andres' restaurants, China Chilano offers imaginative and delicious choices that faithfully reflect their country of origin. The Peruvian dishes at China Chilcano are close resemblances of those I've enjoyed in Peru itself. The Pisco Sour and Chilcano Cocktail and both excellent. Service is friendly but a little slow on busy nights.
We opted for outdoor seating which I would not recommend! Way too loud and on the road so when busses go by it creates a giant wind. Otherwise amazing!!
Great as always for a pre-theater dinner. Love the dim sum and the Pisco Hour selections.
My husband and I ordered the tasting menu. Absolutely everything was outstanding and it was so much good food for the price. The service was also excellent. Highly recommended!
Everything started off well and server, as busy as he was, got us drinks and checked on us before ordering. But perhaps the kitchen was backed up bc of the caps game because we got the tasting menu and it was messed up. We got doubles of things, waited 45 minutes between plates... we were there for 2.5 hours. We arent even sure we got all tj
He food. And we waited so long, people were either super hungry or felt full bc theyd waited so long. We asked for an extra plate, cup, chopsticks, and coke several times and ended up just going to bus ourselves. When water spilled on the table, server saw it and bolted but then asked 10 mins later if all was ok. Had to ask another server for napkins. Kind of crazy hectic. Don't recommend tasting menu when they are busy. Their tickets were messed up and we didnt have a menu of what youre going to get. Timinf was way way off. Order like normal and youll probably be ok. Won't come back for a while... too traumatized
Very interesting mix of flavors in every single dish. Delicious. The sour cherry macerados on the rocks went well with dinner as well.
The food at China Chilcano is fantastic - super fresh, and presentation is beautiful; the service is spot on - servers are super attentive, and they explain each dish when they are brought to the table. The cocktails are amazing, too - quality ingredients.
Good service and great food.
Amazing and interesting cuisine. Please get the yuca app
Would give negative stars if I could…..
I wanted to taste the Peruvian Cuisine and was visiting this joint in DC for the the first time.
Twice I called to confirm my reservation. I even did some research on the dishes in the Menu I would I like to order. We took an Uber to the restaurant as Parking is an issue in such places.
With a great expectation to be treated to some unique cuisine I took the trouble to reach the restaurant on time for the reservation.
I was kind of shocked to notice how nonchalantly the stewardess ushered us to a dark corner, with a metal chair and a joint sofa in front of a tiny table with some uninviting cushions lying around. Every other spot in China Chicano restaurant looked interesting, lighted and appetizing, except the hole that they expected us to sit in to have our Dinner.
Also, we were not having a take-out, yet the staff was quite cool about the fact that we were dissatisfied with their table allotment. And that too when there were at least 3 Tables empty with more that 2 chairs, but they preferred to wait for a large group to occupy them rather that allot them to us on request.
I also said that we will be ordering multiple items and hence need a bigger table that meant that the bill would be really good but they didn't care at all. There loss!!
Stunned by their inhospitality, we preferred to call it a day and believe me I will certainly taste Peruvian food but certainly not in DC’s China Chilcano.
Fue perfecto para pasar un lindo rato con amigos. La comida muy rica y sin largas esperas. Lo recomiendo 100%.
Always great food! Fun for date night or small
amazing food, beautiful place, the presentation was awesome and really such a wonderful experience. Also not super expensive which was a plus! a drink + 3-course meal for 2 people was about 70 which is literally amazing for what the place is.
This was my first time at this restaurant and I was excited to try the different foods! However, we had a server who was either having an off day or just has a horrible attitude. He was outright rude, and I’m not sure why. But when we didn’t know immediately what we wanted to drink and needed a minute, we then had to wait 15-20. When we wanted to drink a bit before ordering food, he never came back for the food order and just grabbed the menus an hour later and gave us the bill! So I didn’t even get to try the food. 😳
Another restaurant by Jose Andres, this one focused on an Asian-Peruvian fusion menu. On an evening just before a Caps NHL game was to be played nearby, it was very busy and loud, but the service was quite good make sure to save room to sample those. Highly recommended.
Great food - the Pisco Happy hour is an amazing deal - we got there at 5:45 and they quickly took our order to fit it in. Masks are supposed to be on when talking with staff (the rule was a bit confusing). But the staff was very kind about the rule. Very happy this place is back!
So much variety, had to ask our most competent and kind waiter what to order! Great experience.
My husband and I were celebrating the anniversary of our first date, 15 years ago. The restaurant was packed. The hostess was wonderful. She set us at the bar and got us drinks (right away) while getting a table ready.
We ordered the chef’s choice special dinner. It was total of 12 courses (small plates) to share. Each one was better than the one before. Our waitress, Melissa was very attentive, but not overbearing. She was fun and polite. Drinks were just as good as the food. We were there for over 2 hours eating and drinking, almost the entire time. Our chef, Will Fung came to the table to see how we liked the food. He was also great at giving us some ideas for where to visit and eat. It was an absolutely flawless evening. Next time we return to DC, we’ll stop there again. We are recommending it to all our friends.
We enjoyed the chefs tasting menu. Every course was delicious. Lots and lots of food!
Great place to check out with a small group. Excellent menu with plenty of variety. Food was delicious.
Great food, good variety. the service was good and quick.
Amazing, our server was kind, helpful and funny. The food was sooo good. We enjoyed our time here coming back for sure.
Great, authentic Peruvian and other creative dishes!
One of my favorite places in DC. Asian fusion in a surprising way.
First time food was great environment was energetic, our server was wonderful and very knowledgeable would definitely recommend.
Loved the food and drinks. Was there for happy hour specials and tried all the appetizers - all were excellent. Tried a few main dishes for dinner and all were excellent. Highly recommend their Pisco Sours. Loved the atmosphere. Service was great. I will definitely return and also recommend to others.
Peruvian cuisine tends to be colorful and creative, commonly with Asian influence, and this was a fine example.
Furniture was in bad shape, with scratched wood tables, rusty metal chairs, torn vinyl coverings on booth benches, and unfinished chipboard wall units. Not sure if it's "shabby chic" or under construction. At worst, it was safe for skin and clothing contact.
Service was mostly prompt. Food was delicious. Pisco Hour is 4-6 pm, with discounts on a few drinks, appetizers, and small plates. But we had to send back the bill for correction, because at first they charged us full price.
