   We had a wonderful dinner at the Chifley Bar and Grill on our last night staying at the Kurrajong. The staff were wonderful, the food was fantastic and the historic setting of the restaurant made the overall experience very memorable.

   We had a booking but no table available to sit at in the restaurant (were moved outside onto terrace in an awkward lounge seat). They were setting up for an event and told us we had 10 minutes to order before kitchen closed. Other people we saw left because they didn’t have order in within the 10 minute slot. A poor family were put outside in the cold.

   An old gem delivered with a fantastic meal, thoughtful service staff who Eve. Sang happy birthday to the “birthday boy”. They gave us a complimentary drink to acknowledge the celebration. The new menu has a wide range of choices and I loved my prawn ravioli, and my partner said his steak was cooked to perfection. We loved our night out. Full of class, ambience but not pretentious.

    Food unremarkable. The usual breakfast menu, lacking in imagination and diversity. Substandard long life pulp free orange juice served at $6 per glass. Great setting and attentive staff.

    The team was very keen to help us. The timing of our visit was during a more naturally quiet period. Our server was very polite but didn't seem enthusiastic to serve us. Mostly he appeared to wanting to do a great job with his normal function. I can only assume he is a little newer and therefore still finding his feet or learning to be comfortable with customers. The pricing was fair and we did not order a large amount. Thank you for having us.

    Came for a Lunch to celebrate our anniversary, which I mentioned on the online booking form but nothing was said to us during our meal. We opted for the mixed grill which was cooked as requested and came with a nice salad and a just-big-enough-for-two portion of Kipfler Potatoes. My wife was looking to have a dessert but the laissez-faire attitude of the two staff on duty (neither of whom were around when we arrived either) meant that nobody asked if we wanted anything or indeed came to clear out plates for ten minutes after we had finished our meals. We both had to get back to work, so an opportunity missed for all parties, unfortunately.

    The arrival was a bit underwhelming, but the waitress was kind and her service good, although one main was delivered five minutes before the other. The food was very tasty although a tad overpriced (three courses each with no alcohol for $189). All in all a pleasure to be there.

    We had booked a table for 2 well ahead and were placed at the very back of the restaurant near an exit. We ordered the fish platter for 2 to share. The fish was a bit overcooked and cold. The potatoes were hot and there was a lovely salad as well. The serving was generous. We mentioned that it was cold and were given a complimentary glass of wine each. I think a bottle was warranted to be honest. Wouldn't return for dinner again based on this meal unfortunately.

    This restaurant promised more than it delivered. The staff were obliging, but the service was slow. The menu was more sophisticated in print than in reality. I do, however, credit Chifley’s Bar and Grill as one of a handful of restaurants open on a Monday public holiday.

    The initial service was excellent and th e main course arrived very quickly But the potatoes were very hot and the unexpected vegetables were only luke warm. The confit de canard was stringy and tough. There were two marylands but quantity is no substitute for quality. When we had eaten our mains we waited and then tried to attract the attention of a waiter, but they were all “too busy”. After 15 mins I finally called for service with a hand clap. The pavlova was far too large and lacked sufficient fresh fruit. In short, a great disappointment from a hotel with a fine history.

    The best thing was the service which very polite and friendly. They obviously wanted us to have things just how we wanted them. My wife and Mum liked their salmon salads. My steak was pretty good though though not revelatory and quite dear for what it was. The coffee was okay though the cups were very small. The ambience is a matter of taste. I chose to book to dine there because of its historical associations. There are certainly pictures of past Prime Ministers about the place. However the renovations have gone for a generic hotel ambience. It would in my view have been preferable to retain more of the look of the place as it would have been in the olden days even if it were a bit rough around the edges. But that’s just my opinion. Some might prefer the slick modern hotel look.

    When we arrived for our confirmed reservation we discovered that the venue was closed for a private function so we were relocated to a small room within the hotel that had been set up for the night to cater for the restaurant bookings. We would have preferred that they had not accepted online reservations or had at least informed us that we would not be dining in the actual bar/dining area. Staff in the makeshift dining area were friendly but service was very slow and food was average. Had to wait a long time between courses. I think their main focus was on the private function in the bar/restaurant

    The name perhaps hides the surprise that awaits you. "Bar & Grill" doesn't do this justice. It was first-class service with a great atmosphere. Good size meals. We left feeling full, happy and keen to return for our next special event. Thanks to the warm and attentive staff who made the night unforgettable.
