Our overall experience was good. I ordered Mexican sea bass which the menu said came with spinach and fingerling potatoes. It came with spinach and mashed potatoes. The sea bass was just ok. my husband had steak frites which he was very pleased with. Our salad was very good. Was a long wait from salad to
My favorite restaurant of all time. I am so sad they are closing. I have been going since 1982, including the catering for our wedding. I always go every time I am back in town. What will I do without the bread dip and Southern Fried Chicken Salad? Bless you Michael, Lisa and Robert. Best of luck in your next chapter.
Our reservation was for 6p on a Tuesday night. Despite that we were seated in a far corner up against a concrete wall where the temperature was very cold, too cold to remove our coats. Although the restaurant had been open only half an hour, when the waiter came to take our order we were informed that my wife’s selection from the daily menu, lamb rack, was no longer available. By the time we received our meals we had been sitting in the cold corner for an hour. No apology for anything. Food was okay but water glasses, although empty, were never refilled. In retrospect we should’ve left without ordering. One of the worst dining experiences we’ve had.
So good. I will really miss Chez. I had the Portuguese seafood stew for the first time. Everyone at the table was dipping bread into the delicious broth. We had the southern fried chicken salad for an appetizer. Yum
So, so, sorry they’re closing. It’s our favorite brunch.
Please don't close. The amount of patrons having fun last Sunday should be enough to say that this restaurant must remain open.
The best restaurant in the Southbay- sorry to see it go!
Quell disappointment! My husband and I and several friends have regarded Chez Melange over the years as our “go-to” special occasion restaurant. It was the restaurant by which we held all others in comparison. When I heard they were closing I reached out to friends to suggest we go and have our Chez favourites one last time. I have to say that sadly, the whole experience was a huge let down. The service was terrible. I understand they are probably operating with a limited staff since some have probably moved on. I got my all time fav- the Southern Fried Chicken Salad. It was ok but not anywhere close to its illustrious past. It took a long time to get our order taken, our beverages and food to arrive and for the bill to come. When the bill finally came it was the bill for a neighbouring table.
More waiting; and then my friend asked for a salad to go and that order was never put in so she just decided to do without since server said it would be a while to get it.
So sad for our final Chez Dining Experience to be such a let down. Sorry to see you go, Chez but in your remaining days it would be nice if things remained as they were all these years. 😔
A bittersweet evening, enjoying one last meal at Chez Melange. Delicious food and great service as always. They are going out in style. Check 'em out one last time!
Always a treat to go to their Jazz Sunday Brunch!
Love the place and the owners!
The southern fried chicken salad never disappoints. The Cajun shrimp and grits was comfort food at it’s best. Where do they get the baguettes to go with the famous dipping sauce? -crisp on the outside and chewy warmth on the inside, heavenly. The cod was perfection. We will miss Chez Melange!
I have been coming to this restaurant for about 15 years. I have always loved this restaurant. sadly they are closing. As much as I love this restaurant, our meal on Sunday was extremely disappointing. The food was cold and menu limited. I do not recommend going since it seems the quality is lacking because they are in their final days.
We love Chez Melange. So sorry to see it closing.
We had a great meal, including things we had never sampled from Chez Melange before (like the oysters, which were great!) and old favorites, like the southern fried chicken salad and the yummy cajun meatloaf. Including the cocktails and the perfect Sancere Pinot Noir, it was a wonderful experience.
We rushed in when we heard the news of the closing. The halibut on the old school menu was better than I ever remember. Will drop in several more times over the coming weeks. Thanks, Michael & Robert, for 30+ years of being my go to place for business and personal meals.
We will miss you🙁🙁!! Memories of many excellent meals...,
Loved our dinner! 1 st time and we will be back!
Loved the Halibut , oysters and key lime pie!!!!
We had a little trouble finding the dining room, but after that everything was terrific. Great food preparation, interesting flavor combos and nice presentation. Atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. We will definitely go back to try all the great seafood dishes.
The food is great!!! Lovely place!
Next time, will try out the bar!
Probably the best dining in the South Bay. Love their new location and everything served is delicious and fresh nd the service is on point.
Neighborhood gem! We started with oysters and they were delectable! These were large and tasty oysters from British Columbia. Our waiter Gary brought us a complimentary glass of champagne to go with them. Afterwards we had the fried chicken salad, fish and chips and the sea bass. We had a wonderful chardonnay and finished with two deserts that were to die for!!
The bill was so reasonable and the ambience was great. The owner stopped by to say hello and our server Gary is the best. So friendly, funny and full of good energy! My favorite restaurant in all of the South Bay.
Excellent brunch! We shared several items and all were great. Cute place. Great service. Fun decor. Recommend and will be back for dinner!
Always a fine meal with excellent service. Unfortunately, there was a big group next to us and they were quite loud which kind of ruins a great dinner. I think some soundproofing is needed.
We are never disappointed at Chez Melange/Sea Change. The food is great, the atmosphere is wonderful and Michael Franks is one-of-a-kind. We love this restaurant!
Great as always!
This is a neighborhood gem. The service and food quality is consistent and excellent. The menu varies and there's so many interesting and tasty items, that it's often difficult to decide. Recently, we especially enjoyed some of the appetizers, like the Candied Rock Shrimp and the Crab Deviled Eggs. The Cauliflower and corn side dish, was unique and very good. Whatever you order, you won't be disappointed.
We go the Chez Melange about once a week or every other week. It is one of our favorites in the area. Food is always fresh, menu changes weekly, though some things always stay on all the time. Great service.
Been going ther off and on for years! I forgot how good it is!
The fig appetizer and pate were excellent and our side dishes to our entree were very good (spinach and smashed potatoes with cheese), but don't ever order steaks. My husband and I both order the prime New York steak ($42); it was unedible. Otherwise, we love the ambiance; and whenever we've ordered fresh seafood, such as the Hamachi or the crab legs, it was superb.
Delicious food. Great staff. Fun dining experience.
My husband and I have been going to Chez for years. It is one of our “go to” restaurants. We always have a great meal and receive great service. I highly recommend it.
This place has been around for a very long time. They have lots of good dishes on a big menu but nothing spectacular. They definitely try to be creative but the results are unimpressive and at times not very good. We tried a seabass carpaccio which was terrible and had to be sent back. We had chicken salad , lobster bisque, clams, fall salad all of which were average to good.
Really excellent Crab leg, scallops & Zarzuela (Portuguese fish stew) and wonderful service from Michael & Lisa Franks, the owners. Sea Change is a most welcome change for this South Bay classic.
The first table we were seated at was a bit noisy so we requested another table. We were accommodated and relocated to a quieter location. Calamari was excellent as well as our entrees. Our server was very attentive.
Chez always pleases. The food and staff are both wonderful. We are lucky to have such a treasure as a neighborhood restaurant.
WOW! So happy we ended up here for dinner! The food was amazing! Fresh ingredients served in classic dishes and some very original ones: like the lobster grilled cheese with bacon jam! Definitely coming back!
Staff was amazing, they started our anniversary off with champagne and were knowledgeable about the food and wines to make sure we had a great experience. Will definitely return soon.
