Bienvenue Chez Max!

Savory aromas drift from the kitchen as one enters the front door, giving a hint of culinary delights to come. The casual and comfortable, yet elegant interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting. A large stone fireplace adorns a corner in the main dining room, casting a soft glow around the room.

We are Richmond’s premier French dining experience. Our menu is a collection of dishes cultivated by a Master French chef. We offer an array of fine wines from around the world, over 20 are poured by the glass.

As we are often fully seated on Fridays and Saturdays, we can only hold a reservation for 15 minutes without advanced notice. We allocate 2 hours for parties of 2 to 5, 2 ½ hours for parties of 6 or more. All orders must be back to our kitchen 30 minutes prior to the listed closing time.

Not sure if life is a banquet or a cabaret but you're going to have a good time at Chez Max. Oliver continues to shine as food and wine ambassador; Troy does a great job at the bar and the chef turns out fantastic delights. We've been almost 50 times and look forward to more! All the staff are friendly and present impeccable service. It's like being in a food and wine resort with friends. Definitely won't starve if you go to Chez Max you will enter and leave happy! Make a reservation and partake of an amazing culinary experience soon.

Wonderful dining experience! From our waiter, Richard, who was attentive and allowed us to well pace our meal and laughing/chatting with friends; to the superb meal (one got the pork chop, another the salmon stuffed with crab, another the duck and the last the sea bass ~ ALL were delicious!!! Sides of au gratin potatoes (we could have licked the dish!), asparagus and mushrooms were perfect! And the wine …. Such a great wine menu with many delicious choices. Wish we had room for dessert ….

Always a treat to have dinner at Chez Max. The menu has variety, complexity and is well priced. The wine list surpasses any restaurant in the area and has something for every one’s taste The waitstaff is professional and attentive. The environment is intimate and well cared for. Can’t wait to go back.

The three in our party were given a table in our preferred area and Oliver provided excellent service throughout. The food was very good; filet, crab cakes, and cod were ordered along with potatoes and creamed spinach as sides. And we had the French onion and crab soups to start. The entree prices, however, seemed unreasonably high given the size of the portions and the fact that only one side dish (and no starter salad) was included. And there was a glitch with the glass of red one I ordered. When the check came, the price was $5 higher than on the menu. I was told that the wine I ordered was no longer available so another was substituted (without my approval). Our server got this straightened out without an argument. And we were given complimentary sparkling wine to start since we were celebrating an anniversary. So overall, we had a nice evening.
