Chose to dine at Chez Billy Sud for my girlfriend’s birthday. Everything from the ambiance, food, service, and wine was excellent. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and made excellent menu suggestions when we asked. The Squash soup, escargots, steak, and gnocchi were all superb. Incredibly satisfied with the entire experience and would recommend without any hesitation. Wonderful restaurant!
Chez Billy is our favorite restaurant in DC and we wouldn’t choose anywhere else to dine before we leave town. Food was fantastic and the services was so personable as always. We will always make this our dining priority #1 whenever we make our way back to DC in the future! Thank you guys.
Fantastic meal - highly recommend 1. Pork shank - it was perfect ! 2. Escargot - served with mushrooms in a puff pastry. Everything else wonderful as well.
The food was amazing and the service was just excellent...I will be back
Always an amazing experience! Felt very safe and comfortable.
The cozy alley-way is ideal for dining al fresco. It is quiet, collected, removed from the hustle and bustle of the street. The service is wonderful and the food (what an amazing caesar!) divine. We had wonderful white wine, the first two from the "by the glass" section. I look forward to my next reservation which I will make right now!
Outdoor space is attractive and well maintained. Tables are well spread out. Service was thoughtful. Food was excellent. We much enjoyed dinner.
This was my 1st time eating at Chez Billy Sud. I had the squash soup and the gnocchi, and they were both delicious. Look forward to returning.
Nice outdoor dining experience in mid October. Enjoyed cocktails, wine, foie gras, pâté, and the duck confit. Disappointed that they were not offering coffee or dessert... the meal ended abruptly. Also surprised by the 7% covid tax on the bill. Overall: worth a visit but room for improvement.
We loved the outdoor patio and nice ambiance. Service was great as was the food. Too bad you don’t serve desserts now, we needed little sweet ending but we do understand the circumstances. We hope you go back to serving serving desserts when we all go back to normal. 😀 We’ll certainly be back. Thank you!
Chez Billy Sud is one of our favorite restaurants, which is why it was disappointing that we had a less than mediocre experience this past visit. Of course, many changes are due to COVID, but we wish we had known before eating dinner there. First, no bread service during COVID, and I love the bread they typically serve. Second, no beer selection during COVID, which is tough when with someone who only drinks beer.
Unrelated to COVID, the Bernaise had so much lemon, I couldn't really eat it. This is sad, as Chez Billy's Bernaise makes the Steak Frites, which I ordered.
When we first sat down, instructions were provided that one must wear their mask at all times, other than while actively eating. If this were the case, I would not have gone to dinner. However, it seemed no one was really following this, as everyone had their masks off while seated.
Third, I don't believe they had dessert offerings, but they did give us a free flourless chocolate cake when we left.
Everything was great!
This was the first, and only, place we've ventured out to dinner since COVID started. We wanted to do something special for our anniversary in a safe environment with great food. They obviously have put a lot of thought into serving diners during a pandemic. Beautiful garden space, quiet and spacious, excellent service (loved the bottle of hand sanitizer on each table) and outstanding food. We will definitely be back.
The wait staff were amazing, so was the food. Had a delightful evening eating outdoors with superb food and drink.
Food was excellent, per usual, and the outdoor set up is very well done. My one complaint is the addition of a 7% COVID-related fee to the total value of the meal. I get that restaurants must incur additional expenses in order to operate during this time, but I thought this seemed high and (in my experience) isn't standard for most restaurants in the District.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited for our table to cleaned...we arrived 15 minutes early...the staff was very accomodating, the service was impeccable, our waiter was a delight and the food was amazing.
A bit tacky they charge you 7% for a Covid-surcharge (think resort fee, a little value provided, but not worth 7%). Also they don't give you bread anymore. I asked two employees why and was given two different responses (they no longer have a pastry chef and community bread isn't good for Covid (what does this mean they were doing with uneaten bread?)). Regular food was good and I did see some additional cleaning. I will go back eventually because I like their food, but not until they get rid of their 7% surcharge.
Dining on in their patio was a perfect night out. First, it was perfect weather, granted they don't control that...but everything else they do control was phenomenal. We started with two cocktails, her with a French 75 and me, well to be honest I don't remember but it came in a tea cup and was fantastic. She enjoyed the escargot in pastry and I had what is easily the best French Onion Soup I have had in a decade, and I love that soup. So much delicious cheesy goodness with a perfectly balanced broth. We shared a bottle of wine over the rest of the meal, which consisted of mussels for my other half and duck confit for me. The duck melted off the bone and was served with a fantastic presentation of shredded potatoes that looked like cornbread on the plate the way it was presented. The mussels had no toughness, unlike so many other places and the broth was fantastic. Oh, and the frites that come with the mussels, were perfectly crispy with a hint of salt and also worked well in the mussels broth. A dessert to go was presented, chocolate cake/tart of some sort that paired well with ice cream we had at home.
Having been to Chez Billy Sud once before, at least six years ago and not being that impressed, I figured it was time to give them another shot and am very glad I did.
Lovely setting-started outside but the rain moved in so we moved indoors-I was happy to see social distancing with the tables and I felt very safe. Food was good, service was excellent-would definitely recommend for good food in a comfortable setting that provides top service.
So good to be able to sit again in Chez Billy’s beautiful courtyard and enjoy some of our favorites. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. All safety protocols are being followed which made for a comfortable experience.
The only thing more exquisite about the food and the drinks at Chez Billy are the thoughtful and wonderful staff.
The only thing missing is a Michelin Star. Everything on the menu is thought through...simple preparations of lettuce and radishes radiate freshness and delight, while their steak frites are the best in the city.
The cocktails are creative, refreshing, and colorful.
For a romantic evening out - you simply cannot go wrong.
The food and service at Chez Billy Sud have always been outstanding, and have not changed. They have really risen to the challenge presented by the pandemic. The outdoor patio seating is well spaced and elegant. Our teen even commented on how it felt like we were in Europe. The servers and patrons alike were mindful of wearing masks at the appropriate times. A wonderful experience overall.
We love Chez Billy Sud. It was our first visit there since the pandemic began. The food and service were superb as usual and we felt totally comfortable in the lovely courtyard!
Thanks so much.
Chez billy sud was the perfect place to celebrate our 4 year anniversary! The staff was so wonderful and considerate. They made the night super special for us. We will definitely come back!
Wonderful outdoor experience and outstanding food & service. Lovely surprises from the restaurant for our anniversary.
Very poor service. We were there for 30 minutes before a waiter came for our drink order
Great service and excellent food. The outdoor tables are perfect during these weird COVID times. The wine list also offers great choices. Check it out.
Our family came to Chez Billy Sud to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday. Overall a wonderful experience with excellent food and drink and service from the friendly staff and sommelier. We felt fully tended to, safe and relaxed in the atmosphere outside. Perfect evening!
Thanks . Great place to dine and feel comfortable during Covid!
Although food and service were very good, I'm a bit perplexed by Washington Post food critic Tom Seitsema's accolades. Perhaps he overhyped the restaurant, but it was not the outstanding outdoor dining experience we expected. We've had better outdoor diners during the pandemic at other DC and Montgomery County restaurants, generally at a lower price point.
Amazing food, super friendly and great service!
Chez Billy Sud is one of our very favorite fancy restaurants, and as this visit was only our second time dining out since March so we weren’t sure what to expect. The masks and the sanitizing and the well-spaced tables were new, but everything else was exactly the same as always: delicious, high-quality food and drinks and attentive, friendly service.
Food was good, service very attentive and a very relaxed atmosphere.
Fist time returning after Covid to one of our favorite if not favorite DC gems. They were enforcing effortlessly the new restrictions but made the whole experience friendly and unassuming. The food as always was excellent and even better then on some occasions. Intimate and relaxed, the patio between bar vin and the restaurant is a lovely romantic rue to hideaway from the gtown canal work reminding you of those French alley ways most restaurants fill with tables (socially distanced of course) in any little French village.
Glad to see the standards have not changed in these challenging times for restaurants . Food and service still exceed expectations and hopefully they can survive the economic loss We will return soon
An absolute treat to dine here the duck leg..so juicy the seabass is truly an experience, service oh so kind. Finished with a decadent chocolate flower torte! 10/10
Great food and good service in a relaxed atmosphere.
Sunday evening, a lovely patio, few tables at a nice distance. The food was excellent and service was just right. Does not get any better in this troubled times. We enjoyed the experience very much. Will return for sure.
Had dinner outside and they did an outstanding job. Tables were well distanced and servers wore masks. Offered hand sanitizers when you first sat down. Offered their full menu and there were excellent choices. We had trout and duck confit and both were delicious. Well prepared and large portions. Both were accompanied by side vegetables. Had glasses of nicely chilled red wine with the meal.
Will definitely try to get back while they can use the patio.
Chez Billy Sud is making excellent use of their charming patio for outdoor dining. The food as always is perfect, and the service is lovely. The bartender stopped by our table to discuss cocktails and mixed up the perfect blends that just suited the mood.
Every table has hand sanitizer, disposable menus and the tables are widely spaced apart. The dinner menu is shorter but still had all of our favorites. The canopies overhead provide nice shade.
The only glitch (for me) was those handheld devices that take your card and require you to tip while the server stands by. I am terrible at math and usually need a few minutes to figure it out. But again, my problem not theirs. It's just really great Chez Billy is open again.
