Hanare specializes in traditional Japanese food; focused on Kaiseki (our 6 course tasting). With its origins in Zen Buddhism, kaiseki is an art form that balances taste, texture, appearance and colors of food. The ingredients are strictly based on seasonality and each course in served in very specific order, priming the body and palate; beginning with delicate starters and ending with hearty, comfort foods.

Alright it’s expensive, to be up front. The ambiance is intimate and great, everything clean. The service was great! When we expressed that we didn’t like a dish 100% waitress took it off the check without us having to say anything more (we didn’t really intend for the food to be taken off, but she was glad to accommodate).
Now the part where points get docked off.. some of the dishes that came out weren’t all that great. The uni and caviar toast was great! The rice pot great! And best of all the pomegranate sorbet was amazing! Everything else was somewhat bland or just not worth the price. Oh and uni ice cream was off the menu when we went! (Apparently it’s been off for awhile??)
BEWARE- the aburi and anago rolls. Weird proportions and combination lol. The slice beef thing with white miso (forgot the name) was alright.
I would recommend the place if you knew what you wanted, but be careful!
Rude service. The food was poorly timed. Very slow kitchen and the manager was rude. This is a poorly run restaurant.
So good as always!
Beautiful, tucked away restaurant in the heart of WeHo, Ambiance was great and the food too. Portions for some items a bit small for the value, but overall a filling meal. Will go again.
Customer service was excellent and the food was incredible! Worth every penny.
The silken tofu, made in-house, is delicious
Food is incredible and decor is romantic.
We were very excited for out first visit to Chateau Hanare to celebrate a family birthday. The ambience is really nice, especially like the way the entrance sets a mood. Our booth was nicely located and comfy. Service by secondary wait staff was good. Our waitress, though attentive enough, made us feel rushed from the start. Plus she exhibited an attitude that made one feel the need to walk on eggshells. Rough, forceful, hurried. We, as a group, are very well traveled, nothing about her demeanor felt Japanese, or LA-ease for that matter. Unfortunately person-to-person interactions can set the mood. The presentation of “toasts” was fun with the smokey dome. The caviar toast exquisite. However, the avocado toast fools no one. $10 for one tiny sliver of a California basic. Nothing special, except the price. The special margarita is really nice. We all decided we would sometime come back for the cocktail, and maybe an appetizer. We will not be recommending dinner. Sorry, we really were hopeful, and hope food, prices, and service gets better.
Amazing and unique food, beautiful atmosphere and top notch service!
Catch up dinner and drinks with a friend! We loved it! Beautiful space and excellent service! Our server was so helpful and friendly and the food was really good.
The service was impeccable, and the restaurant is beautiful. However almost every dish on the Kaskei tasting menu one was sweet, not to my liking, but that is a personal taste.
We went for DineLA. It was a very good restaurant and the presentation is brilliant. The valet is a bit expensive though at $14.
It was good. Just all the food was ordinary that I can eat the same menu at any mid to high-end Japanese restaurant. I was expecting for wow tasting or presentation for the reputation of Hanare. The parking was so bad that I had to fight for the spot with their kitchen staff because the parking staff didn’t want to take care of my car because it was 10 min. before opening.
Fur such a place at this price point, I’ll admit I was disappointed. I have eaten a lot of good Japanese food and at this place the food was way saltier than its should be. The Sashimi was not good quality at all and the waitstaff was not very good. They weren’t rude or anything, but they did not help navigate the menu or highlight any items. Overall not worth the money
The greeting hostess had so much attitude - she forgets that its paying customers that give e her a job - a happy postive hostess always starts a food experience well...
Amazing place, great ambiance. Food is superb and creative. Please bring back the uni ice cream!
Definitely recommended for a special occasion
We were really excited to try a new place right in the area. The food was exceptionally fresh, authentic and overall great. What made it such a disappointing experience, however, was the absolutely atrocious service. Rather than pacing each dish out, they brought them out all at once. We ordered a bottle of sake and they just never brought it. Just totally forgot. Literally not once did our server come and ask us how the meal was going. They never refilled our water or offered to get us a new bottle. The restaurant was practically empty — so I’d understand if it were a particularly busy night — but we were just completely ignored the entire time. The entire staff there just seemed cold and standoffish. I had to physically flag someone down anytime I needed something. This was a casual $300+ Monday night dinner with a friend that turned into a nightmare. What was once a promising new spot to frequent is now a place to avoid.
Very warm and inviting location, tucked away in an inconspicuous spot. The ambiance transports you to Japan. The service was outstanding and the food delicious!
Thank you very much for the wonderful meals and service. Much appreciated for our late night dinner. Houji-cha and Genmai-cha ice creams are very original and my favorite!
Very nice and surprising restaurant. The food is delicious and very creative.
amazing service and the food was great
thank you to the staff who made this dinner memorable
The experience started out fine and the food was good. Then there was a HUGE rat on the roof which I saw like 5 times and even saw it climb down the wall. Absolutely disgusting. We spent $200 on dinner to see a rat. We canceled the remaining order and left. The server basically made no accommodations for us. We have a photo of the rat on the roof and have already told our friends about how gross it was. Not to mention my husband and I get a date night so rarely, and this one was completely tainted.
Amazing place. Excellent food.
Very nice ambiance and good drinks , service a bit long but nice waitress very pleasant
Great crowd, nice music
Food is disappointing, just average and expensive , we were served some sashimi scallops with white truffle but the chef forgot to add the few drops of that truffle oil , it tasted so bland we had to tell the waitress , who brought us back a new fish with some of the oil, it was still so so...
we were there 2 years ago And I think it went down in quality...
always happy at Hanare
Had a lovely evening here! Food was divine and the service was fantastic and friendly while still allowing us time in between courses. Heavenly atmosphere outside under the dim light of the lanterns among the nice gardeny walls of their outdoor space. Inside the restaurant is beautiful as well. Overall, we were very impressed and look forward to our next meal at Chateau Hanare!
Everything for the most part was just okay (save for the service - the staff was extremely attentive and kind). The sake flight was delicious, and despite it being located off of a busy street the outdoor ambiance was very lovely and cozy. For the quality of food we got, I thought it was very overpriced. The sashimi was tough, and a lot of the flavors that we had didn't seem to go very well together. It was an interesting food experience, but I don't think I'll be going back.
Our party of four had an absolutely amazing evening at Chateau Hanare. It had been on our bucket for most of the last year, and our first visit did not disappoint. Our sampling of dishes included miso and seafood miso soups, and a wide range of entrees, such as shrimp ajillo, saikyo cod, jidori chicken, and crispy fried chicken. All were excellent and way above the bar in terms of preparation and flavor. The service was fast, attentive, friendly and informative across the board. Overall, an incredible evening. We definitely plan to return again soon.
Started off slow but surely ended with a great finish..
Tried a lot of different things but now know what to order..
A great place for a special occasion, very attentive and knowledgeable staff!
The food/service is good, not exceptional. The girl who seated us wanted to (inexplicably) put us in the back section even though the front was entirely empty and had no response to our question as to why we could not have the table we'd like other than that "she had everything planned"....we were finally seated at the table but it didn't feel welcoming (given there were only 2 other tables occupied and no prior table reservations) The ambience is nice (despite the location being next to a liquor store) and the food came out promptly.
Foods very creative and interesting. Saki pairings are unique.
Went for dinner with a friend on a Friday night at 7pm. The place was virtually empty & stayed that way throughout our meal. The miso soup was about a small cup worth of soup for $8 (kind of silly) and the fish that was served in the soup was still attached to a large sharp bone. Very difficult to eat without proper utensils. This place could be way better than it is - the decor/ambiance is amazing, but the food falls short. Should have known there was something amiss when I saw the restaurant was empty on a Friday night.
Our regular late night snack place. We love them, they have best tofu in LA!
Delicious and cozy
Wonderful experience.Great creativity.Beautiful atmosphere in the restaurant
An amazing experience all around. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a little too quiet maybe but we went early (6pm) on a weeknight. Otherwise outstanding.
By far my favorite Japanese restaurant in LA. Food and service are excellent!
Great exclusive experience of japanese gourmet cuisine. Staff was a delight, full of attention and kindness.
The exquisite menu offers Kaiseki dining and a la carte dishes featuring home made Tofu and an extensive Sake menu.
Since all of our choices were vegan this reviewer can only comment on their vegetable dishes;
Though beautiful presentation, , the dishes were a tad too precious for the casual nature of the setting.
Outdoor dining was way too dark and under lighted making it nearly impossible to see the very petite dishes.
The seats and tables too far low for any leg room comfort, they were suited more for a Bar's seating.
Being 5'4" I cant imagine anyone taller able to sit comfortably. This discomfort was annoying and is inconsistent to such an elevated menu.
The flavors of each dishe were delicate and very was good, yet over priced for the casual outdoor seating. Our Main server was knowledgeable, yet lacked the forthcoming kindness one expects from such a fine dining establishment in LA. The Bus -servers were very kind and eager to please.
Valet parking was $24.00 before tip.
