Long wait to order and get food or drinks. Servers and runners are not proactive and are lazy, making you pass plates at service and clearing. . One of 6 main courses took 9 minutes Longer than the others. When we could finally flag down somebody to tell him, he disappeared and the server came back and said there was a mistake. Asked for a manager to visit my table but I didn’t feel like asking for some financial considerations in front of her. It was not so good tonight.
Visit to Santa Barbara. Found Chase Restaurant Bar and Grill on line....downtown location and what a fun dining experience. Locals and visitors alike. Food, wine, service all top notch. Will be our go to place if again in Santa Barbara.
Wonderful evening. Service was excellent. Chicken piccata was great. A bit salty however. I think the capers were overly salty. And I love capers and salt in general. The marinara sauce seemed a bit “out of the can” as it appeared to taste and look like canned tomatoes. An odd occurrence happened. We ordered the pecan cheesecake which was amazing. After we paid the bill and left, we noticed that the cheesecake was listed on the board outside at $5. However on our bill it was $9. Although it was probably too late to do this, I went inside and told the server. She proceeded to offer me $4 from her cash tips. This was very embarrassing and of course I refused to take it. Word to the wise. Check the board and your bill thoroughly before you pay it.
Super recomendable, la comida, el ambiente, el precio y sobre todo, la amabilidad del servicio. Sin duda volveremos!
Love Chase!! Piccata dishes are amazing!
A beautiful old style restaurant that is ageless. It has a full bar and great food.
Very nice Italian restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara. We had chicken parmigiana and marsala, both delicious and big portions. Easy walking distance to the Lobero Theatre. Highly recommended.
We love this restaurant. The experience is the best in town! Thank you for continuing to work hard and be a great customer service restaurant!
I’ve ordered both the chicken piccata and the veal piccata. Both came with a side of spaghetti. They were delicious. The portions are very generous with enough to take home for a second meal. However it was so delicious I couldn’t stop eating.
The martinis are also excellent.
The service was disorganized and ridiculously slow. After waiting for 49 minutes for our food i had to go back to the kitchen area to check. The staff were congregated there while several orders (including ours) were on the counter. After asking for our food it came and it was awful. The linguine with clams was swimming in an oily-butter brith and was too salty to eat. My daughter’s chicken and salad was saturated with oil and the chicken was over cooked. The presentation if both plates was messy. After I told the waiter about our food he offered us one piece of chocolate cake. The items were overpriced. I’ve been an open table member for about ten years and use it often. This was the first time I’ve felt the need to review a restaurant so negatively.
The Chase never disappoints. Good food and excellent service. The ambiance is a Santa Barbara classic
Needs an update and thorough cleaning. Food was good but the place is dirty and old. Still had Christmas decor up.
When we arrived for the reservation they did they would not be open for another half hour. We went to another restaurant.
Pretty expensive for what it was. Service chaotic, pleasant, but scatty. Waiter did not know the menu.
Food all seemed swamped in sauce or one kind or another
We didn’t bother with dessert
This was not a busy Wednesday evening, service was SLOW, often had to wait on the waiters etc.
The food and the waiter was great, but the kitchen took a very long time to prepare our meal. It was a Wednesday night and restaurant wasn't busy.
Delicious food. Friendly bartender who made me an amazing signature drink. Can’t believe this place has been here for 40 years and it was my first time. Wish I’d had dessert there. We will definitely be back!
The service was outstanding and the wait staff was amazing. The food was fair at best. It tasted like it had been previously frozen and then thawed out in a microwave. My suspicions seemed to be confirmed when I passed the kitchen on the way to the small, run down bathroom. There was something cooking in the microwave that looked like breaded chicken. However, we loved the staff and will return if they upgraded their food to something fresh and delicious.
Every time I dine at the Chase it is a reminder to keep coming back. I always want to order something else but the Chicken Picatta calls me. Next time I will try the rib eye! Love the ambiance, the ability to speak to each other without yelling and the service is so warm and friendly. Fun for locals and for tourists to see how the locals live.
Not worth returning. It was a disappointing visit.
charming, restaurant reflective of old Santa Barbara with ok food but extremely slow service. this is not a staff issue; the staff was positive and worked hard, however, there just wasn't enough staff ( bartender was mixing drinks, bussing and serving meals coming from kitchen). fish sandwich a highlight. very amenable towards children.
Who would have thought that this Bar and Grill would have better Italian food than virtually every Italian restaurant I've visited over the past several years? Growing up in Brooklyn, but spending the past 40+ years in California, I've judged Italian restaurants by their Veal Parmigiana (and have usually been underwhelmed). Chase Bar and Grill pulled it off with a large piece of Veal, nicely breaded, tangy tomato sauce, and delicious cheese. Served with salad and pasta- and at a very reasonable price. My wife judges an italian restaurant by their Cioppino, and again we were very happy with the broth, the unusually large shrimp and clams, and the freshness of the fish. I even got spumoni for dessert (not on the menu). Wine by the glass was reasonably priced, and there was a selection of half bottles for the more moderate wine drinkers. Overall, a great experience.
What a great place. My large party had a fantastic time. Chase is always a consistent and reliable friend. No pretentiousness. Just good classic American Italian food favorites with some powerful cocktails. Santa Barbara Food Scene has a real challenge with consistency. Name the best restaurant in town and I promise you one time great and the next time is the chef's night off and it is terrible...or service stinks but food is good. But not at Chase. They never let you down. Thank you.
Went here for my birthday, food was fine. Not good, not necessarily bad. For as pretty as the interior was and how high the prices were I was expecting a little more quality food. Definitely would not rush to come back here...
The food at Chase was delicious and portions quite generous. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly. If I had to make one change it would be for the Italian bread to be crustier.
Service was terrible. I was bit by a bug and the staff didn’t even acknowledge it or offer ice. They forgot to bring half of the food we ordered and our waitress barely said a word to us. I got the carbonara and they forgot to add the sausage as well as serve me a dish with an uncooked roux. If you know what it is, you know how bad it is when the flour isn’t cooked out and the sauce is chunky and gritty. Had two bites of it. Waitress didn’t even bother to ask if it was good or why I decided not to take a basically full pasta home. No eye contact either and no one at the table was being rude or mean to her for her to act that way. I assume she had a bad day and hope she feels better, but she, along with the other issues, ruined my graduation meal with my family. She could have at least offered ice while she saw me get bit or even after she saw me catch the bug and take the napkin from me. Not impressed, never returning and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy
Wonderful restaurant! Graduation weekend, so service was slightly slow because they were booked with lots of large parties. But overall, very happy with our apps, salads, and entrees — of which there were a solid number of vegetarian options! Server did an awesome job, despite being slammed. Will happily return next time we’re in town!
Excellent food and service. The room was a little loud.
When you want that NYC style Italian restaurant with great food, friendly staff and just a wonderful overall dining experience, this is the place! My wife loves the Cosmo's here as well 🍸😊
Love this place! Very romantic and food is delicious! Good portions and the ambiance is great!
Love this place! Amazing food every time! From the food, to the service, to the lights decorating the inside. I had visitors in town and they loved it. I always order the lasagna or meatballs and they never disappoint! They even had vegan options and specials which was a relief for one of my guests.
Rosa is an amazing waitress that seems to do it all. She had amazing wine pairing recommendations as well. The food never disappoints and the chocolate cake they brought out for my brother’s birthday was exceptional.
Wonderful lighting perfect for romantic birthday dinner. Cozy and food will make you fall in love.
They made us wait 10 minutes before seating us and there were many empty tables. Once seated it took another 20 minutes to get a server. The server had an attitude and appeared to be disinterested. Our food was Delivered about 9:00 pm and was terrible. Fettuccini was very over cooked and sopping in oil. Caesar salad was tasteless and chicken on top was dried out.
We have eaten at this restaurant for many years but it is now on our NEVER AGAIN list.
Best cioppino south of San Francisco . Great staff and made my wife’s champagne cocktail perfect
Service was slow and impersonal...maybe because they were busy.
We have never been disappointed at Chase but we made the reservation because we got an email about their new vegan meals. Unfortunately, they ran out of vegan Alfredo sometime before our Friday evening 6:30pm reservation. Very disappointing. We will wait a couple months to try the new items, but will call first.
I would have liked less of a draft. When I suggested this to the hostess, she closed the door, but it was a bit too cool where we sat. Other than that, the experience was very pleasant and the food delicious!
This restaurant has long served traditional Italian food, heavy on the cheese and sauce and not innovative. I stopped going years ago. But since they were offering some vegan options I thought I would give them a try. The vegan lasagna was simply terrible. The meat substitute was heavy and greasy, as was the entire dish. And the salad that came with was boring and ordinary.
