Chart House Restaurant - Cardiff
Everything was outstanding except the speed of service. Apparently they were short handed, because the service was slow. The waiter was outstanding, very attentive. I will definitely come back.
The Chart House is a seafood place through and through. The service is great and the ocean views are amazing. The best part is the food - always good and very satisfying. Do yourself a favor and be sure to order the chocolate lava cake as it takes 30 minutes to prepare.
My friends and I love The Chart House!!!!...GreaT Food...Service and of course the amaZING View!!!!
The worst restaurant we've ever ate at. Horrible, horrible food. A ripoff!
Eat at 5. Bad service. Bad margarita, bad filet- no flavor and all 3 over cooked. Good coconut shrimp.
Chart House has really gone down hill since i used to go when i was much younger. Food is just ok. The Swordfish we ordered was terrible. Do not plan to go back. Service was very good.
Met out of town guests for Sunday brunch. Great beach front location.
The restaurant was too cold. Your AC does not work very well
El lugar tiene una ubicación privilegiada, con una vista de la playa y los surfistas increíble, es el mayor valor del lugar. La comida buena, y el servicio con algunas fallas, aunque amables.
Delicious prime rib and great attentive service. Salmon was a bit over cooked but overall food was very good. Can’t beat this place for an ocean view and sunset!
Long standing return customer. Plank Salmon and Mac Maui Maui to die for! Server Brent is a pro!! Sevice was excellent. It was great to relive the 80's Chart House Team Surf contest.
Excellent from start to finish for a birthday celebration.
What a great evening we had, the food was great, service spot on and you can't beat that view! We've always enjoyed Chart House but stopped going a couple of years ago because three times in a row we had the worst service imaginable! We gave up! But when family came in town we decided to give it another shot and they totally redeemed themselves! We'll be back!
Server was a little slow and distracted and they ran out of the Spinach salad which is the only item my husband eats here. It would have been a disappointing evening had it not been for my birthday freebies!
Great views of ocean and sunset! Food was very good. I had shrimp and scallops which were very tasty. Nice wine selection by the glass.
We were seated in 10 minutes. Took another 10 minutes for server to show up. So far so good. We order couple of wines for which server asked for IDs from my teenage children. I don’t know what was wrong with the server but she started to comment on the DMV ID, telling kids that they need new ID since card was side ways which is how they get here in CA when cards are issued under 21.
We asked her to lower curtains as sun was hitting us. 45 minutes and two more requests later curtain remains as is, no apologies or even explanation for not acting on simple request. My daughter then asks another worker for help and it gets done in less than 5 minutes.
I had told server that we are in hurry, even asked her to get me check sooner before we are done but she was taking her time, I had to get up and ask her for check and then walk over give her credit card to speed things up. Overall, not impressed at all with the service by her.
As for food, it was ok. Nothing special in taste or presentation except higher prices. Surprisingly burgers can not be substituted using veggies patty and nothing can be done to fajitas to substitute steak. Only dish for vegetarian was some pasta with price tag of $19. The dishes were small too for the price we paid. We had ordered steamed artichoke heart, which came in very late as were finishing up lunch (due to cooks not seeing the item on the ticket). The only item we were impressed with was be appetizer, hummus and pita bread.
I would go again only for desserts and may be for brunch but not for lunch or dinner.
Excellent service and amazing views. The calamari is one of the best appetizers there and the Mojitos are also awesome.
New Years Eve
Our service was great! Sat quickly, even on NYE. They were friendly and not irritated we had children.
We arrived early. Ordered a drink after asking for a window table looking at the ocean. Told them we would wait as long as it takes. Then I told them it was my wife's birthday. Hostess lit up and promised us a special table. Took us from the bar and seated us right next to strangers. We refused. Then they sat us by the kitchen looking at the parking lot out the window. Bummer.
Food and wait staff were great but the whole experience was ruined by the rude blonde at the front desk that would not let us wait for a window table and ended up putting us as far as possible way from the windows. While mind you the restaurant was probably 25% capacity due to the weather. Further more they sat multiple groups in open tables next to the windows after we were seated !!!!!!
Normally one of my favorite spots to dine ruined by this employee.
Chart House has become of favorite of mine as well as my friends I have introduced to this lovely location with great good and excellent service. Gene, our server, was friendly, efficient and professional. I highly recommend this restaurant and Gene!
We took our six kids here for a New Year’s Eve lunch to celebrate our anniversary. Everyone was super friendly and our server Jonah was fantastic. He was super friendly with our kids and very responsive to our needs. The view from inside is amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to celebrate an event. The filet mignon was super tender and flavorful and cooked to perfection. The lobster bisque is always a hit as is the fish and chips.
Very impressed ...have dined at chart House since the closing of the Oceanside unit more than a decade ago. I did miss the salad bar though. The primary reason my wife and I chose not to dine at Cardiff was the salad bar not being offered. Living in Carlsbad 25 years. Dined at chart House Oceanside 3x per month due to the awesome tasting Salad Bar.
Great Food, Spotty Service.
The environment is spectacular, crowned by the beautiful view.
The service was haphazzard, though pleasant enough. The waiter asked three times if we wanted cocktails even though we declined each time.
We ordered three filet mignon entrees, one a 9 ounce. Each came with a different specialty butter. The orders were mixed up, which initially the waiter denied. When the order was corrected my steak had bleu cheese butter scraped off and replaced with the mushroom butter I ordered. It still tasted like bleu cheese. When you spend $40 for a steak that isn't acceptable.
The salads were under dressed, we had to flag down another server to correct it because our waiter didn't return to check on us.
He also forgot to bring water and had to be reminded, probably hoping to sell cocktails. Forgot bread as well.
Yes go for the spectacular view but the food is very good. We came for lunch and were glad we had reservations as it got very crowded. Chris was our server and he was very friendly but swamped. He refilled our drinks and checked on us. But the bread never made it to the table. Now sure why places claiming fine dining over seat the waiters stations.
Clam chowder was perfect. Hot, creamy, and filled with clams. French dip sandwich was delicious all be it quite small for the price. Spinach salad was fresh. Desserts of mud pie and cheesecake good ending. All in all an enjoyable afternoon.
I was super disappointed the last time I went to the Chart House and didn't think I'd return. My sister and I tried it again for Christmas dinner. It was fantastic. Service and food was awesome. I do think they could step up their sides. The rice was not exciting at all. My sister had steak and lobster and loved it. I had swordfish with carmelized onions and blue cheese on top. Amazing!
I have been going to the Chart House for special occasions since I was a kid. I love that their menu hasn't changed much, as you know exactly what to expect and can have your favorite meal. The only thing I did notice is that their filet, though cooked to perfection, wasn't as tender as I've had at other fine restaurants. Other than that, no complaints! Our service by Kimber was spot on.
Outstanding Christmas dinner with Chris, our waiter and nice flexibility in choosing a meal to suit each of us. We will be back!
Nice service and great views.
We have been to the Chart House for many good dinners before, and this Christmas dinner was no exception. The food and service were very good, and the view is terrific--feet from the ocean. We booked a table for four thru OpenTable, and the restaurant very kindly raised the reservation to six the day of our dinner. Even the dessert, a key lime pie, was wonderful. Parking was complimentary.
Went here on Christmas Day. Although expensive, everything was delicious. I had the prime rib and it was tender and done to perfection. I could have used more potatoes. The molten lava cake was to die for. Everything was yummy. I had one of the specialty cocktails and it was also really good.
It was very interesting experience. First time i called to make a reservation and the gentleman who picked up the phone was kinda rude. I understand that Christmas Day one of the busiest day for you guys but that gentleman was saying “no” not even to try accommodate the customer. We tried to make a reservation for 9-10 people and he said it’s impossible. Okay! So we made two separate reservations and ask him to put us next to each other and again I’m hearing “no”. When we arrived to the restaurant the very nice lady gave us a one table for 9ppl without any disgusting. I work in the hospitality as well and I would never talk to our guests the way he did and I will never let my staff to talk the same way. The service and food was excellent. Thank you for that.
We came on Christmas early in the day. It was a genuinely beautiful. Our server attended to all our special requests. Overall everything was actually lovely the soup was a little less warm than I would’ve liked and to have truly outstanding service the table should be cleaned with a crumb cleaner between courses I know it’s a small thing but it’s the difference between excellent service and outstanding. I still gave our server Alex a 40% tip. Because he was so understanding and helped us greatly. And made our lunch/dinner truly special.
Steaks were very good except medium well was cooked medium rare so patron had to eat a dry steak after everyone and there was no compensation offered from the server. Love the atmosphere and scenic view of the ocean. Great drinks!
The entrees arrived when we were eating the appetizers
Keep going back to CH because it is a reliably consistent superior dining experience. Everything was excellent.
Hadn't been to the Chart House in awhile. Everything was just wonderful. It was a lovely way to spending an evening watching the waves and enjoying Mahi and a glass of champagne!
The restaurant was quiet when we arrived presenting a nice relaxed atmosphere for our 7th anniversary. Being seated near the front windows gave us a wonderful view of the days sunset. Our waitress,Heather, was pleasantly attentive. We received an anniversary card and a personal menu acknowledging our 7th anniversary. For desert we received a complimentary slice of mud pie, which was a great compliment to our prerfectly cooked steaks. The steaks were tasty and tender. The creamed spinach was incredibly delicious.
We had a festive Holiday dinner for 6 with a wonderful ocean view table. Service was attentive without excessive hovering.
