Established in 1982 by London restaurateur, Peter Lee, the Charlie Chan Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Cambridge. Our passion for authentic Chinese food has established the restaurant as a firm favourite with the people of Cambridge and tourists alike, serving fresh dim sum and traditional Chinese food daily.

We look forward to welcoming you at Charlie Chan soon.

                                                                                                                                                                                    Once a Favourite, Now a Disappointment Charlie Chan’s was once a go-to spot in Cambridge, but sadly it has lost its former charm. The upstairs area, once lively and inviting, has been left to deteriorate and is now only used as access to the toilets. Walking up the worn, threadbare carpet was a rather sad reminder of how far the restaurant has declined. Now only the downstairs section is in use, which never had much atmosphere to begin with—and it’s only worsened. The decor feels tired, the ambience is lacking, and the overall environment is unwelcoming. Service was particularly disappointing; staff seemed disinterested and unengaged, creating an awkward and uncomfortable dining experience. Unfortunately, the food didn’t redeem things. We ordered the duck, which was dry, tasteless, and had the telltale texture of having been reheated. The rest of the meal was mediocre at best. We had chosen Charlie Chan’s to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, expecting something special, but left feeling thoroughly let down—especially after spending nearly £200. To make matters worse, several of us felt unwell afterwards, experiencing bloating and stomach aches later that evening. What was once a much-loved restaurant is now a shadow of its former self. Regrettably, it’s no longer a place we can recommend.

                                                                                                                                                                                    There are various choices in this area. I may not be back because there are Communist Dictatorship News Papers around this restaurant make us uncomfortable. Dim sum are fair, quality like the frozen products in Costco, not very bad just acceptable. The main fried dish is below average.
