CHARCUT is a proud female majority-owned and operated destination restaurant and bar from Calgary’s CHAR Hospitality Group – founded by Carrie Jackson and acclaimed chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson. Our menu draws inspiration from Italian and Portuguese traditions, a nod to Connie’s heritage, while celebrating seasonal, artisanal, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. From our handmade pastas and vegetable-forward sharing plates to our house-cured meats, butcher cuts, and rotisserie prime rib of Alberta beef, we take a back to basics, back to flavour approach by evolving simple ingredients. This was our first time at the University District location. It doesn’t have quite the ambience as downtown but still nice. I like that we could reserve bar seats. The food was very good. I had the the prime rib- yum and my spouse the New York strip. They were perfectly prepared. We shared a salad. The Portuguese red wine was very good for the $$. All told less than $150 for two cocktails, two glasses of wine and food. Service was very good as well.

Service was lacking , Small portions Quality of food was sub standard Left hungry , went to another location to eat after our meal Very expensive , the keg outshines this place .

Group of 7 out for a family dinner. Excellent food and service. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice place for dinner. Highly recommend.

Wonderful food. Wonderful service. Great atmosphere. Only challenge is parking due to the construction going on, but worth it to find a spot and walk a little. Love this place!!!

Our whole experience at Charcut University District was outstanding. We went there for an anniversary dinner and the staff helped to make it a great celebration dinner. We will be back!

We were so excited to try the University District Charcut (having loved the downtown location for years), but overall the steak quality / prep was poor and left us with a sub-par experience on Saturday night. As group of 6, we ordered family style and were intrigued (and recommended) to try the Bistecca Bone-In Alberta Beef Ribeye for $145. We ordered it medium rare and what came looked like it had been sous vide or boiled, was chewy and overall a very gristley piece of meat. Had we not been time restricted, we would've sent it back. All other dishes, zucchini salad, potatoes, charred tomatoes, rosatella & rotolo pastas were delicious -- we would've ordered more of these (serving size of each probably feeds 2 max). We were disappointed that the main dish couldn't keep up with the sides! We'd love to try the restaurant again and hope that it was just an off cut of beef or even an off night in the kitchen.

Sounds like something went wrong on this occasion. I appreciate you letting us know about the issue, I have discussed with the chef to determine what went wrong. I would really like to make this up to you, we hate to loose a loyal guests. We hope you will consider giving us another try.
