Chapter One - Guilford
From the minute we walked in the door everyone was friendly and helpful. Food was excellent we weren’t rushed out of there like most restaurants today, I would definitely return
Nice to be out in warm tent with warm service.
Wasnt sure what to expect. The reviews I scanned left me wondering. But got much more then I could have imagined.
The place is quant, clean and cozy. Even the music was great.
Sebastian served us as well as another staff member. They could not have been nicer and more inviting. Sebastian talked about the specials and answered our questions, even made some recommendations.
The food was excellent, fresh, full of flavor and presented beautifully.
Chapter one will be a regular “go to” for me now. I rarely write reviews, but this place deserves the full rating.
Food was delicious. Drinks nice. Only wish there were more vegetarian entree options. Only vegetarian entree on menu is fried rice. Seems like it would be easy enough to add a pasta dish, vegetarian burger or nice sandwich of some sort to the menu. Lots of vegetable side dishes to choose from, so the chef clearly has them available!
Great food and cocktails the space could be nicer, but otherwise great.
Delicious food and kind service! Definitely will be back!
The service was excellent & food was outstanding!!
Menu was very good and food also. A bit overpriced
The wait staff were wonderful. They have such a fabulous set up for outside dining. It was our first experience eating outside with hot air pumped in. It made the dining experience fantastic!
Sebastian was a wonderful, personable and professional server. Nice to be back to this fine restaurant.

Server was amazing! Sebastian was his name. Food was great as well.
A wonderful find in our own neighborhood!
Robin our server, and Kelsey, our bartender could not have been more attentive and hospitable. The bolognese and vegetarian fried rice were delectable! The chef is highly talented in preparing cuisine from both cultures to perfection. We will definitely be back soon!
The service was bad, from never having our water glasses refilled, to not getting what we requested with our cocktails, to the ridiculous amount of time everything took. The food was worse. 2 out of 12 oysters were bad. The burgers and fries were served cold. When we complained, they took them away and brought them back hot but completely overcooked. Salad was soggy and tasteless.
Overpriced and poor quality food in very noisy dining room. Was here 2-3 years ago was lousy then it’s still lousy today. I know restaurants are hurting but at least try to provide some minimal value. $33 for a very small piece of dry swordfish (maybe 3oz?), a few think stalks of asparagus and an awful mashed potato with some overpowering herb was a total turn off. Wife couldn’t finish one glass of wine tasted like vinegar. My eye manhattan was chilled vermouth with a cherry. Expect to pay about $130 for two entrees and two drinks plus tax and tip. No thanks - I’ll stay home.
The food was prepared well and with a generous portion.
This was my first time here and we will surely be back! The raw bar, Caesar salad, Mac n cheese, steak, and cocktails were all delicious. The restaurant is beautiful and the waitstaff is so welcoming. Thank you for a lovely meal!
I have been to Chapter One twice already and each time leaves me longing for the next visit! From the service to the drinks to the food. 10/10! Also, don’t forget to stop at hen and heifer a block down the street for amazing bakery sweets!
Valentines Day meal with my girlfriend. The meal was very good however the drinks were very expensive.
The food was amazing. First time in a very long time I have left thinking I can’t wait to go back.
They could turn up the dimmer switch a tad bit. Beer/wine/cocktail selection could be better.
With that being said. It could have been much worse and the food still would have made it worth going back for.
Sebastian, our server, was wonderful. He explained all the specials and cocktails we were interested in very well and was attentive without being over attentive.
Food was delicious. Shared the clams as an app and we each had the swordfish dinner. Both very tasty and well prepared.
We will be back.
A friend and I dinned outside, it was very nice to have that as an option. The outdoor seating was warm and comfortable, our server was very nice and the mimosas were great. I would definitely return for drinks but the food was just mediocre.
Great service, food and drinks were delicious but pricey.
Great brunch menu! Dined outside on a beautiful Sunday
We went for a late lunch on Saturday. Such a cute spot overlooking the green. We shared a bunch of appetizers, all of which were great, and even tried a couple of desserts. The cocktails were amazing, and everything inside was adequately spaced for Covid. Our server Sebastian was friendly, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Will definitely go back!
Awesome ! Food fabulous and service great!
Due to the wind we did have to move indoors, but it was nicely spread out and we did not feel unsafe. The restaurant was very clean. Food was excellent. Service was a little slow, but not unacceptable. Overall, it was a nice brunch and we will definitely go again!
We recently moved back to Guilford after many years away and have been catching up on the local restaurants. This week we tried Chapter One and couldn’t have been more impressed. While outdoor dining is running out of time, we were able to enjoy a chilly but manageable night on their patio, which is very nice and reasonably heated via overhead propane heating units. The patio is something that we look forward to visiting often in the spring and summer season because it looks to be a great spot.
There were four of us dining on Saturday and everyone found the food to be excellent. We started with a squash soup special, calamari and some little necks. All were well prepared, very tasty and they were delivered very timely. In fact, the service was excellent overall.
Three of us enjoying a salmon with spinach and risotto special, while our fourth had a shrimp salad. Again, everything was great and we enjoyed all aspects of the meal. We finished off with pumpkin cheese cake (insanely good) and an apple cobbler that was average only due to the apple skins being a little too firm.
We are very pleased to know that Chapter One will be a go to restaurant for us and e highly recommend it.
Chapter One's outdoor patio on a sunny fall afternoon is delightful....try the classic Mac Lobster Mac n Cheese.
Delicious
Food took quite long. First brunch of shrimp and grits was lumpy and sour. Ordered eggs etc and got it quickly. We were charged for each cup of coffee(even half cups to warm it) we spent something like $17 on bean water. We had to ask for many things repeatedly- ketchup, salt and pepper, spoon...
This may not be our brunch spot.
We tried Brunch on Saturday. It was an order off the menu & the menu was quite large with some very creative items.
Food was very good, be patient the service is slow.
We met friends for Sunday brunch. The waiter was attentive and helpful. I had the Sea eggs Benedict, delicious with lobster claw meat. My husband enjoyed the lobster omelette. Our friends both had the Farm eggs Benedict which they enjoyed. The Bloody Mary is spicy good!
I order fried avocado and the vegetarian rice dish both super salty
Hubby had clam chowder but there was no clams in it and overall he felt it had a very unique flavor to it
I can’t say we will be back soon hoping it was just a bad night for the kitchen
We are locals. I’m afraid Chapter One was disappointing. Food was mediocre, drinks straight up were loaded with ice. Our last time at Chapter One.
Sat outside and there was no heater next to our table. Freezing.
Sitting outside was perfect with the weather the night we were there.
Social distancing rules were in place.
The outside area was light up nicely.
Wait time for drinks/water... 15 minutes +
Dinner specials were presented long after we had our menus, 1/2 hour.
We waited almost an hour for our dinner but it was our first night out since March so it was okay.
Dinner was as delicious as all the to-go meals we have gotten from Chapter One.
A memorable wedding anniversary dinner.
We had a wonderful outdoor dining experience. We were welcomed at the hostess stand & seated to a nice table outside which was socially distance by others. The temperature was comfortable and there were standing heat lamps near by to give warm as needed. The menus had some great options. Our wait staff was VERY attentive!! We enjoyed our meals and had a lovely dining experience. Would recommend to anyone. Love Chapter One!!
Event: Shuck it Sunday - all you can eat raw bar- quaint place, service was great as well as the atmosphere. Had live music - all in all a great time
We had a great dinner last night !! I had the scallop risotto and my husband had shrimp scampi it was delicious !! Great atmosphere too !! We will be going back again !!
Sat outside on the patio, very nice. They have heaters now which is great as the weather is getting colder. Food was good, although the service was very slow.
The all you can eat clams oysters and shrimp was amazing ! The only issue we really had was with the service being very dlow
