The gougères are a fabulous start to the evening. Loved the goat cheese Caesar and the gazpacho (really fresh and flavorful) for starters. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and my wife said her bouillabaisse was outstanding. Raivo provided superb service, and was very patient as we took our time in ordering
Helpful and friendly staff. Great food, and drink selection. Great for pre, or post theatre, shows or tours.
The reception was awful!
We booked a table one week before
They gave us a table near the kitchen!
After we refused it they gave us a better table.
The food was ok! But not exceptionnal!
Definitely it’s not worth the price!
We have consistently dined here for several years. Very good pre-Theater dinner and convenient to several places. It is getting a bit dated and could stand a menu refresh. Service is excellent. Cocktails are very good but over-priced.
We were a few minutes late and they were very accommodating to help us find a table. The food and servers were exceptional. Our server went the extra mile to make our evening rememberable.
The service was friendly, and the atmosphere is okay. They we're out of several of the wines/ciders/cocktail ingredient for the items on their drink menu. The filet mignon was tough, overdone and flavorless. The cheese ball appetizers were bland and boring. The fried chicken does have a good texture and taste but the amount of breading is really overwhelming. We also both felt slightly ill for the rest of the evening. I wouldn't spend your money here when there are many amazing options in DC. SKIP IT. We're not necessarily foodies, but I do expect high quality and great tasting food at this price point.
We enjoyed our dinner with friends very much. The noise level was daunting at first but was tolerable. We had four different entrees and everyone was enthusiastic about their choice. The fried chicken pleased our most critical diner. We thought the Caesar salad was marvelous but split it - two is us couldn’t finish one salad.
We had two great dinners during our visit to DC at this French bistro style restaurant. Delicious and innovatively presented bistro style food. Great service with friendly staff both nights. There’s something for everyone including burgers, seafood, steak, pasta, Osso Buco and fantastic desserts. Try their take on lemon meringue pie and homemade ice cream and sorbets.
My friend recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. Food was excellent and service outstanding.
Sadly, I think Central has fallen a little since Michel Richard is gone. Many of our items were very good, but overall, tastes were uneven. And the most disappointing thing was the dessert. We ordered the chocolate bar and it didn't taste as good as the last time I ordered it. The ingredients did not seem as high end. Then the Creme Brulee tasted like it had been frozen, thawed and torched about 3 hours before serving it. The pudding was dense and the carmelized sugar on top wasn't even crispy. Very disappointing.
Such a community resource, more, much more than a restaurant. Location is the thrill of downtown Washington. The ambiance of the restaurant, being at comfortable seating, being able to see tbe kitchen in action, it’s a Washington treasure. And the food...simple, expertly prepared, perfectly presented and delicious. Been 30+ times, and have never had any menu item that failed to please. Oh, to have him back. Come back Michel Richard. We failed to bottle you, you'll need to come back.
We were sat outside and the gentleman who took my bottomless mimosas order ended up putting the order into a wine glass. Didn’t taste like a mimosa more like OJ. My beet salad came out with human hair on one of the beets. I asked if I could get a new plate and pointed out the human hair. Our server was not happy that I asked for a fresh plate.
The server who attended our table took my glass away and never asked what I was drinking or if I wanted a refill. I had to ask one of the assistant managers who was walking around refilling mimosas glasses if I could get a refill on my mimosas. He was extremely nice and brought a fresh glass. Needless to say the bottomless was only 3 glasses; that’s not bottomless. The service has gone down hill.
I use to love bringing out of town guests here for dinner and brunch. Won’t be coming back until they get their act together. For bottomless, the refills should be flowing.
For a highly rated restaurant we were surprised at the lack of ambiance, incredible amount of noise, and extremely hurried atmosphere throughout the restaurant and our experience. The menu and plating of the food was less than memorable. This is not a restaurant I would return to.
Horrible service from start to finish, we had no waiter for 20 minutes at a time. Some of the food was very good, and most of it was sub par. Super disappointing.
Menu is not extensive but food was great!
Fabulous from start to finish! Highly recommend!!
Great experience for an anniversary!
Food was excellent. Service was so so. Host was new and not familiar with seating.
The place was wonderful for our firs visit. We will return.
Food excellent, good wine list. The scallops with plums and risotto a delicious choice. Chocolate mousse for dessert was light and fluffy. The noise level is very high. Staff is incredibly professional. Being from Arizona, we enjoyed the pace and excellent service, would highly recommend to any couple traveling, warm and cozy
Very nice place to eat. Right across the street from Trump International.
We ordered four apps and cocktails for happy hour; the drinks wre quite nice and the fries were phenomenal but the rest was iffy. The slider trio was dry and the crab corequettes seemed unusually fishy; even though there were only five on the plate, neither of us bothered to finish the last one. And the item described as a bacon-and-onion tart wasn't bad, but it also wasn't a tart at all--more like flatbread, so not at all what we were expecting. The place was lively and convenient so I can see why it's popular, but just not for me.
Excellent service and shrimp burger was excellent. Somewhat noisy but still able to have a conversation. Sandwich/burger prices seem unnecessarily high.

My first visit to Central was outstanding!! We celebrated a birthday. The food was so good!! We took home left overs to enjoy later. Our server Boris was excellent. I will return soon. Also, I 've told my co workers they must visit Central.
Everything was wonderful, we ordered shrimp and grits, buttermilk pancakes with blueberries and mascarpone cream, and classic eggs Benedict, with a side of Bloody Marys. None of the dishes disappointed. The hollandaise sauce was one of the best best I ever tasted, the shrimp and grits had delicious flavor and we ended with the pancakes. The pancakes were just heavenly! Would definitely recommend to anyone and come back next time when visiting DC.
Central has been my go-to place for any special occasions or fun gatherings with friends. It is a great place with amazing food. Kudos to the team there for maintaining such a great place.
Mr. Rizo is the best. The chefs and cooks are incredible. I'll be back, again and again.
The food was excellent, but our server was a little pushy and wasn't always the most helpful, but overall good!
We were visiting DC and booked this for a Saturday night dinner to treat my son and his friends to a nice dinner. The food was good but the ambience was lacking. This felt like an upscale diner and did not have the feeling we were looking for. The food was good and I would return only if I found myself in the neighborhood again, not somewhere to go out of the way to try.
The restaurant is excellent in every way. Great location and outstanding food. The wine selection was outstanding. The service was (as expected) first rate. The menu was inventive with options for all in our party, including delicious vegetarian choices. The entire experience was welcoming and allowed us to reconnect over conversation, great wine, and an exciting finish with the celebration cake. I'd recommend this restaurant for both business and leisure dining.
The experience would have been great had the manager at the host said "Oh, you have 2 instead of 3, let me see what I can do" Instead he said "We honor reservation as they are, we may not be able to seat you, but we will see". That started a tiff with him and my friend on how to speak to customers. That put a damper on the rest of the visit. I set the reservation for 2 but changed it to 3 and the system kept trying to make the change so apparently it didn't. It was my friends recommendation to go there for the chicken dish. I won't be back, I can find better with less hassle.
Love the menu. There is not one item on it that is not excellent. The staff is very attentive while not at all intrusive. We even always take advantage of the valet parking, which makes driving to the restaurant a breeze. The casual environment is nice since one does not need to get all fussy or gussied up to dine. Finally, the only negative I have is the decibel level, due mainly to the interior design, is almost always on the edge of too loud, so if noise bothers you either go early, go late, or ask to be seated in distant corners.
The only negative comment - our server was ok, not great.
Terrific for my friend’s birthday gathering - A-plus!!
A little on the high (expensive) side, but excellent across the board. Arrived at 5:15 on a Friday, which was good since by 6:00 it was definitely filling up. Excellent pre-theater, pre-sporting event place for dinner.
I loved my dinner here. The fried chicken was crispy and delicious with a unique texture. The mashed potatoes were some of the best I’ve eaten. I had the chocolate bar for desert and it was Devine with varied texture and flavor! Can’t wait to go back. Also had impeccable service. Perfect night.
Desultory service, good food, but not great.
Attentive wait staff! Great food. Our party had the meatloaf, hanger steak, salmon, mac/cheese and lamb pastilla. All dishes were terrific!
Great ambiance & service with excellent food. Definitely a “must go to” when you’re in DC
