Excellent service, drinks, and food.
Great food with great service. Really good vegan and vegetarian options.
Great choice for mixed group of vegan and non vegan diners
Our server was attentive and helpful. The food was quite good. This is a perfect place to enjoy the calm before the storm of the Caps Hockey Game.
Small intimate restaurant. Food was served quickly and was delicious! Great value - low cost for what seemed like a fancier restaurant with yummy food!!
The duck fries are to die for!
The food and ambiance were great. We hope to get back and try more items on the menu.
The food was absolutely fantastic: appetizers, main course and dessert of the best quality. Great service, and the jazz music that was playing was the perfect complement. Will definitely return!
We really enjoyed our first visit to Cedar. The host and the waiter, Keith, were personable and cordial. I loved my drink, “Snowflake,” quite appropriate for the New Year’s Eve celebration. The asparagus soup was very tasty; the little lump of crabmeat topped off the flavor with perfection. I had the Branzino which blew me away; first time having this fish which was beautifully done with perfectly lumpy mashed potatoes. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his vegan meal.
The only issues I had was our food was brought out later than was acceptable, especially when I noticed two couples seated after us served their food more promptly. Also, due to a mix up on the menu for vegan and regular desserts, I ordered a dessert I would not have ordered if they were listed correctly. I thought I was getting double layer chocolate cake but received a single layer chocolate mouse cake. I would have preferred another choice. Other than those glitches, the experience was lovely and we plan to return.
All of our food was overcooked. They also did not advertise that they were going to have a pre fixed menu for NYE . The prime rib was way overdone as was my husband's quail. The scallops were chewy and overdone as well. If seems as if cooking the food in bulk for a pre-set menu was their downfall. I had higher expectations going in and was thoroughly disappointed.
The food was amazing, perfect for a birthday dinner however the waitress was not very friendly, maybe she had an off day.but great restaurant!
This restaurant is the best kept secret in Washington, DC!
Food was very good but service was mediocre at best. The server forgot our drink order (there were two of us) and had to come back. Then he moved us to another table, because a large party was coming in and he needed our table. We rolled with all of that, but then we weren't given bread plates and he took the wine list away before we'd even gotten our appetizers. Finally, he disappeared (never to be seen again) and we had to take our check to the front desk to pay. Very odd.
Food, however, was good - especially appetizers and dessert. My crab cakes were excellent, as was my husband's onion and tomato soup. I liked the vegan options, although the smoked tempeh and spinach risotto was salty and "okay." Flounder entree was very good. Chocolate mouse square for dessert was excellent! Not sure if I would go back, so hard to recommend.
We really loved going to this place! We were excited to go for our pre-Christmas dinner, and overall had a good time. The food however, was not up to what we would expect from this place. The servers were wonderful but seemed, unfortunately, understaffed. Sadly, we are not sure if we would return. The spring rolls were over fried, the Cesar salad wasn’t the same as usual and my spouse’s rack of lamb was u underwhelming. We really did love coming here, since I am vegan. Time to find a new place :/
Cedar is a great restaurant to go to when you are in DC downtown especially if you are going to the Ford Theater. The food and the service were very good. I ordered the prix fixe squash soup, salmon, and chocolate mousse for desert. The restaurant is downstairs and a little chilly. However, I would recommend going there and plan to try it again.
I was very disappointed in my experience tonight. I've been to Cedar several times before and while service can sometimes be a bit leisurely, tonight it was completely unacceptable. We had 7:30 theater tickets so when we arrived shortly before 6, we told the waiter that when we ordered. Our main courses didn't arrive until 7, despite our trying to get anyone's attention (we seemed to have two part time waiters, one the front desk manager and the other the bartender). One of the orders was not what was ordered and when we pointed that out, we were asked whether it tasted okay! Of course by then it was too late to change it and still make the curtain. No one seemed to be in charge.
this was a unique experience that left me wanting to come back and try more of the delicious food. I will come back again!
The steak and lamb were excellent. The cocktails and selected wine were also excellent. Really enjoyed the ambiance. We would give it five stars but for the overdone and lackluster vegetables accompanying the dishes. Surprising given everything else was so good. Should be an easy fix.
We went for brunch and they have a great menu, lots of vegan options. And delicious drinks. They're working on opening an upstairs space for a bar so I'll definitely be back.
Delicious pre fixe dinner prior to attending a concert at the Capital One Arena. Service was spot on. Our server Lauren was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. Food was prepared perfectly. Had another great Cedar dining experience!!
A vegan friend and I chose this restaurant for dinner because they have a menu of vegan foods. I am not a vegan but the selection offered was too tempting not to select a few of the vegan dishes myself. Spanish onion soup was mildly spicy and very good as was the vegan Caesar salad. My friend had the raviolis while I tried the meatloaf. The server cautioned that the meatloaf did not have the actual texture of meatloaf (which I have found you can get using the newer Impossible Burger) but the main was very good, if somewhat dominated by the marinara sauce. There is a good offering of wines but overall it was a very satisfying meal and I could recommend it as a solid choice for dinner.
We have eaten here twice and the food was very good both times. We took advantage of the pre-theatre fixed price menu, and it was very reasonable. The restaurant was relatively quiet so it was easy to converse.
We enjoyed a really nice meal at Cedar this evening. My husband thought his lamb chops where incredible and I enjoyed my beat salad and chicken supreme. The dinning room is small but not too crowded. I appreciated that the noise level was moderate to low...it's a rare dining experience these days to be able to enjoy a quiet conversation in a restaurant!
We love this restaurant especially for a nice night out. Servers are always so attentive and welcoming. Food is outstanding. Not sure I want everyone to know because it's a small intimate place and if the word gets out it will be swamped.
First time at Cedar! The hubby and I came here before going to the theatre for dinner. Keith, our server was attentive and was knowledgeable about the menu. We were the only diners on a Friday night at 5pm, which seemed unusual for a DC restaurant. Our meals were very good! I had the flat iron steak and the hubby had the vegan meatloaf. He is a meat eater and he said the vegan meatloaf was delicious! We will likely be back!
Enjoyed the Chef's menu. Excellent diverse options and tasty. Something for everyone - meat / fish / vegan. The deserts were exquisite!
The restaurant is pretty and in a good location. However there were 5 of us at the table and no one had a really good meal. The food was all pretty blah. I was surprised and disappointed.
Exceptional brunch experience !
Great food including the vegan dishes which all too often are bland at other restaurants. Keith, our server, was knowledgeable about the food and menu. He made spot on recommendations. Attentive but not intrusive. Very nice meal before the play. We will be back!
Another great experience at Cedar. Tonight was a little busier and considerably noisier — but not badly so— than on our previous visit. This time there was what appeared to be an office group having a happy hour gathering in the bar area, the source of the chatter. The food and service were again very good. I liked my sweet potato-rutabaga gratin so much last time that I enjoyed it again. We will be back!
Excellent meal to celebrate a family member’s birthday. Lauren, our server was perfect - providing fabulous service and answering all of our questions. Great food, unique cocktails, yummy desserts. We will dine there again soon!
Good cocktail. Great pre theater location. If you don't want to or can't share dishes/small plates, the location cannot be beat. Dietary limitations prevent a meaningful food review by this writer.
We chose Cedar after our normal pre-theatre restaurant closed. We were very surprised that the restaurant wasn't packed because it was excellent all the way around. the food was outstanding and the service very good. We loved that we could talk without raised voices and enjoyed the overall ambiance quite a lot. We will be back!
I had a lovely brunch while eating alone. Everyone was so nice and attentive, and the crab cake benedict was delicious.
A very elegant under the radar place, perfect for a valued conversation and sense of privacy accompanied by delicious food.
Sean makes a great cocktail and the service is always good. Food was excellent. They took away the table clothes. Bad move in my opinion.
A beautiful, quiet, and relaxing atmosphere. Food was absolutely delicious.
Despite an unpromising start -- down a very long flight of stairs, to a completely empty dining room, where we were seated in lonely splendor at the opposite end from a small, lively bar, with only the bartender to wait on us -- we had a LOVELY meal. The food we ate was excellent! The pre-theater prix fixe included a fine salad, a delicious bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin (among three choices) and a nifty coffee crème brulée. The à la carte appetizer menu included a delicious brie en croute and a fine smoked salmon on a bed of fresh, crisp greens. Half the menu is vegan, so there is something for everyone. The service, while a little sketchy owing to a staff absence, was very friendly. The restaurant will be opening a street-level room in the near future. That will make our planned return trip even easier.
This is our special date night spot. Love the vegan menu! The caeser salad and vegan meatloaf are incredible. Great service, great atmosphere. We love Cedar.
Okay food and outdated ambiance. Not worth it at this price point.
