Wonderful brunch in a super cool setting. Loved enjoying our meal in this historic home. Delicious food — the grits were outstanding! Friendly service.
Our first time here and it was so yummy! Definitely coming back! Get their Gulf Shrimp, omg soooo delicious and the bacon rice with poached egg oh and the fried Brussel sprouts!
We will return 😍
We loved the cool neighborhood vibe, generous front porch with outdoor seating, delicious food (beet salad was amazing), great cocktails and overall fantastic experience! We visited on the first night of our trip to NO and loved it so much we returned on our last night. My 9 year old (carb fan) couldn’t get enough brussel sprouts, so a win for the entire family!
Atmosphere is fantastic and location is ideal. However, that is where the good news ends. Our first two small plates were wonderful (the fruit parfait and the avocado toast) but every large plate we ordered was horrendous. The pancakes especially, which looked like it was "bring your child to work day" and the chef let a three year old make them. The bottoms were charred and burnt and they looked nothing like a pancake and more like roadkill. The food came out at different times so our party of six was made to eat in stages. One guest asked for egg whites (a common request, I'm sure) and was told by our waiter that "the chef didn't know how to make them." Really? You separate the egg and the yolk. The waiter then went and checked again and the chef said he would make "an exception" and make them. They came out runny and still in liquid form, which then had to be sent back in order to be properly cooked. My stepfather's chicken salad sandwich literally came out last, after the rest of us were done eating, which is incredibly odd considering I'd assume this isn't made fresh. The place was pretty empty considering it was prime Sunday brunch hours. I don't think i'll be back to try this.
Brunch was fantastic! We had a beautiful morning so we ate outside listening to a small duet playing music. Order the Avacado Toast, you wont be disappointed!
Superb entrees and ambience; we will come here again!
LOVED the chicken salad on a croissant, sounds basic, but trust is a perfect brunch leaning towards lunch dish
Delicious food in a gorgeous atmosphere
Great food and great ambiance!
Amazing meal in an amazing space. Will definitely be back next time we're in town.
The food was excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. When the weather warms up I’d like to go back and sit on the patio! Beautiful old home and free parking!
Great food. Great Service. Dog friendly.
We were able to get a reservation sane day right after the Bacchus Parade and we even were sat a little early! The ambience is intriguing, the food was wonderful and our server was attentive. I did not find the food over priced as sometimes these spots can be. We were quite happy and I would defiantly eat here again when in NOLA!
The space is great. Service, wonderful. Food, terrific.
Cavan does not fail. The burger is one of the best in the city. I normally get it, but I didn't this time. However, this was my friend's first time at Cavan and she ordered and independently said it was the best she has had in the city. I had the fish of the day, which was snapper. It was also great. I'm looking forward to going back!
Take a trip away from the French Quarter to the charming house. Great food and a very different vibe. You won't be disappointed. Limited menu but we managed to feed a very happy family of 5 with a variety of well-prepared dishes. Great service and atmosphere.
Loved the house very much. So charming, so much ambience. Glad we discovered it.
We loved Cavan. The service, food and drinks were first class. We’ll definitely be back.
The salmon tartare was so good that I wanted to order it again for dessert. The eggs Benedict was very good but the grits need a little more salt in the cooking water and the whiff of sugar needs to be abandoned. We were at first seated in a very sunny window and the waiter moved us immediately to a table in a shadier part of the room. We all want to go again the next time we are in NO.
Fantastic wait staff. Very kind and let me sit while my party arrive. Had a large group but everything flowed extremely well. Wonderful ambience.
Very disappointing that so many things on the menu they were out of.Avocado toast, sorry, grilled cheese, out of that too. How is a restaurant out of bread and cheese? The potatoes were fantastic, I’ll give them that, and the charcuterie plate.
Amazing brunch! Excellent service and we had the perfect table on the porch on a gorgeous day. We had the shrimp and grits and the pancakes with a bacon butter that was so good we asked for me. The French 75 was the perfect cocktail to wash it all down.
The service was a little slow because there was a marathon race in the area and several servers couldn’t get to work because the streets were blocked. It took a full 10 to 15 more minutes after we finished eating to get our check
Have diner here several times. Nicholas was our server and he was great as was the ambiance and food as always.
Fabulous! We reserved a table for 4 at 7:00 on a Saturday night. We were celebrating a girl's weekend. One of our party had a broken foot and was on crutches and the staff was very kind and accommodating. We had a perfect table in the main dining room. The noise level was "festive" but tolerable. The waitress was patient and gave super recommendations for all of our choices. We really enjoyed every bite- the beet salad was to die for and the cocktails on point! We were relieved to get out of the hustle and bustle of the french quarter and Cavan felt a world away. We loved this charming gem and highly recommend it!
beautiful restaurant! feels like a special event just being there.
Great food and vibe.
Food was great. Shrimp dish was cooked perfectly. Chicken was brined so had alot of flavor, maybe a little salty. Beet salad was delicious as well as the charcuterie platter.
The food was lovely and the service was exceptional. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time.
We went for brunch and were disappointed. Food was mediocre - my wife's eggs were under-cooked and the other food was just OK. Service was incredibly slow, the server who finally came by to take our order disappeared and we never saw him again. Some else eventually brought our food and a different server eventually came by to check on us. The music was horrible - not sure who decided on it but it was definitely not music appropriate for a restaurant. We won't be back.
Always a sublime experience at Cavan, this time for Sunday brunch on the porch. Great food, and the best service you can find just about anywhere. Cavan is my go-to restaurant when entertaining out of town guests.....the location, the historic home and its stories, combined with great food and service are quintessentially New Orleans, my guests always love it.
Really enjoyed our experience at Cavan. The food, drinks, service and overall experience were all great! I'd rate them a 10!
We went for brunch on a Sunday - great food and service - they did have some live music (a cello!) and it was lovely. Highly recommend the grilled cheese and the winter sangria.
Great food (Gulf Shrimp were amazing). Great service (Carl describes the food in a way that I wanted to eat everything.
Lovely service, very good food. The room is splendid.
Great experience - good service and waitress brought out a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate for us. Ambiance was so nice - love the inside of a house vibe. Try it!
Best restaurant ever. From the food to the music selection. It’s the best
Excellent food and service
There are lots and lots of fabulous restaurants in NOLA for sure. But this little gem is tucked away on Magazine St in an quaint old 2 storied house and I must say the food is EXCELLENT!!! Nothing too fancy or fusion but just enough!!! The gulf shrimp with cabbage in the curried coconut broth is to die for!!! I will go back next time I’m in New Orleans!!!
Our party of six enjoyed that dinner we had at Cavan. We ordered a antipasta appetizer, along with the crabmeat dip. Both were ok...very salty dip (even for us salt-lovers), but we ate all of it. Then, we ordered the shrimp (which we were told was the chef's favorite), and the steak. The broth that the shrimp was served in was very sweet. Maybe it was the coconut milk, but it was just a little off-putting. It also had micro cilantro in it, which was disgusting for me. There are so many people who hate that herb, I just can't understand why restaurants don't make it optional in every dish they serve it in. And it was not mentioned at all in the description. The steak dish was good, but nothing special.
The atmosphere was lovely, and had it been a little more dry outside, we would have loved to have had our dinner out there. Our waiter seemed very busy, but attentive when needed.
We likely won't be back. There are way too many great restaurants in N.O. to choose from.
