My husband and I totally enjoyed our dining experience at the Kentucky castle. We actually were not very hungry so we chose a variety of appetizer dishes and capped it off with dessert and bourbon coffee. All of the dishes were exceptional. He started with the strawberry salad and I had the chicken soup. The chicken soup was thick and creamy. I could not even eat the entire bowl. We followed with the pimento cheddar and asparagus, pea salad. I didn’t think I would like the pea salad when I first saw it, however, the lemony vinaigrette dressing was so light and flavorful that it was an outstanding dish. We both loved the cheddar and the seedy cracker sheets which were something like I’ve never had before-slightly sweet, but crunchy and delicious. We capped it off with the mushroom tart and a side dish of creamy delicious mashed potatoes. This was where the biggest breakdown in service occurred. Although not a major issue, they delivered the mashed potatoes long before the tart came out. The result was that we had to send them back so that we had a hot dish. The mushroom tart was rather flat and not quite as good as we expected. We saw two orders being delivered after we had finished, which were puffy and delicious looking. Ours was flat which gave me the feeling that our waiter had let it sit before delivering it. The s’mores were a treat to honor our 50th anniversary. They were mounds of toasted marshmallow covering vanilla ice cream rolled in graham cracker crumbs and filled with thick chocolate. Yummy.
Our server was not very attentive, but probably due to the fact that we were not a high ticket table. My husband had to ask for a fork on his second appetizer and the shareable dish of mashed potatoes were delivered with no serving utensil. Chef-the amazing asparagus, pea salad needs a pop of color to make it more visually appealing.
