Cassis St. Pete
Could not taste the escargot because of the heavy brown, oversalted gravy. Why do they mush & overcook the asparagus?
Nice breakfast menu. Only negative is they are rigid with substitutions.
Noah was an absolutely fantastic young man and great waiter!
It has been such a long time since I have dined at such a terrible restaurant that I am not sure where to start. A Sunday evening after the holidays, a vast restaurant, 10 tables in the whole restaurant were taken. We were all bunched together such that the wait staff had to climb over us to reach all of the tables. The wine list was odd and badly constructed without regions or vintages. When asked why the waiter said it was a French restaurant and vintages change. There were only 5 French wines on the list. The wine ordered was not the wine presented. My 1/2 wedge salad at $10 was about $1 worth of lettuce and other fixings. When the plate was cleared the fork used was placed back on the table and a new steak knife was delivered soaking wet and placed between the tines of the dirty fork. Very French!!
The slow roasted prime rib Sunday special came out brown when ordered medium rare. I was hesitant to cut into it because I had no idea what the kitchen had done with the piece of meat. The waiter again failed to be helpful and called a manager. She assured me the meat was roasted, she saw it rubbed, and not placed on a griddle. I cut into the meat. It was rarer than Pittsburgh and it was clear had never seen the inside of an oven. I asked for a medium rare slice of the prime rib and was given back just a browner version of the same piece I was originally given. She assured me it has been grilled when before she told me it was roasted. This was a $34 piece of beef lightly placed on the griddle and never roasted as advertised. And it was a weekly Sunday special.
My 2 guests independently exclaimed that they too found this the worst restaurant in their experience and their meals of a croque monsieur and scallops were equally terrible. And expensive.
The waiter and the manager disappeared and never checked with us again.
I chose this restaurant because of its french focus and its ratings on OpenTable. The restaurant was neither French nor worth a trip.
I used to love going to Cassis and decided to celebrate my 40th birthday there. What. A. Disappointment. The whole reason we went is for the dessert, which was advertised on their website, to get a taste of every dessert plus a bottle of sparkling wine. I was told that they no longer do that and the menus were wrong on the webpage, however, the rest of the menus were up to date! The steak and fries I ordered- the steak was so tough despite it being cooked a medium rare. I would chew and chew the steak but it was so fatty and tough it was difficult to swallow. Sad, because they used to have great stuff :(
My girlfriend and I absolutely loved the food this weekend! Blown away with the flavor of that butchers cut! That steak melted in my mouth, so good!
We were there for brunch with friends at 10:45am. They made us wait until 11am to order off the lunch menu. If you are gluten free or have allergies of any kind, don’t bother with this restaurant. They had nothing for us and at least our service showed no interest in helping us eat. We’d heard this restaurant had options but that wasn’t our experience- not even gluten free bread. Won’t be back.
We made a reservation, we called to confirm it, we arrived early just so we could be on time. Hostesses told us they would seat us closer to our reservation time, so we waited and waited. I inquired how long the wait would be, but I wasn’t given an answer. The last time I inquired was 10 pm they said they do have a table available but gave it to someone else as we waited. They seated us around 10 15 outside at the small plastic table next to dog dish with dog hair in it. The waiter took menus away and told us we could order drinks but they do not serve food after 10. So we left. That was our New Year’s eve, the worst service downtown St Petersburg.
New Year’s Eve
This is everyday a good restaurant but New Years Eve was out of control. Reservations had no meaning. They were clearly overwhelmed. Organization of guests was non existent. We ended up on a coffee table curbside and only after seating ourselves two hours after the original reservation. Hostess stand was a hot mess. Food was cold. Wife served first took another 15 mins to get mine. They allowed the public walking by to take seats outside that should have been saved for guests w reservations. All this for a $380 dinner for two. Won’t do another Xmas or New Years Eve at Cassis but will return on normal days.
I made a reservation for New Years Eve—needed to enter my credit card, 15 minute grace period. Understandable. We checked in 30 minutes early for our 8:15 reservation for 2 of us and enjoyed the scene outside. I checked on our table at 8:30 and 8:50. I was told they were waiting for tables to open up. At 9 pm, a group of 8 that had an 8:45 reservation was seated. I went to the front desk and was told they were still waiting for tables to open up. I cancelled ( after confirming they would not charge us) and walked down the street for immediate outdoor seating at Parkshore Grill for a wonderful meal!
The food was great bur the service was quite lacking. We were seated for over 15 minutes before our drinks were brought over. Waited another 15-20 minutes before our question regarding my partner's food allergy was answered. I know this was the new year's eve dinner but for what we paid, the service should've been top notch.
New Years eve
The food and service on New Year's Eve was not up to Cassis normal standard, but forgivable due to the high volume of customers. I feel that the waiter, who was new, was overwhelmed by having too many tables outside and inside of the restaurant. This, in my opinion, was poor management decision.
I made a reservation for 6:15 for an inside table. When I arrived, we could only get an uncomfortable cramped outside table. The waiter then tried to rush us to order, so he could turn the table. After food was delivered the waiter was difficult to find. One course sat on the table getting cold as we had no silverware. Most food options included gluten and/or truffles, neither of which I could eat. No modifications were allowed. The second course scallop casserole was fishy; as if they used fish and cookie cutter-ed the scallops from fish. The scallop casserole was covered in bread crumbs as well. The dinner was a New Years Pre Fix menu with a 20% fixed tip. I will never go there again.
This was our second time at Cassis. The food wasn’t great the first time but we were looking for a place to bring out of town guests for lunch/brunch on a sunny Sunday and I thought the setting, if not the food, would be a good choice. While outdoor seating is great for people watching and scenery and our server was excellent, the food is worse than poor. There really is no excuse in this day and age to serve menu items that are both not fresh and not well prepared. One friend’s grouper sandwich was like eating shoe leather. My husband’s pancakes were like rubber. My Cobb salad was buried under a mound of mush and I couldn’t even see, let alone taste, any lettuce. Unappetizing to the Max. Not going again. Au revoir, Cassis.
It was just ok. It was my birthday, they knew, not even a
Mimosa courtesy 👎🏻
There was a small issue up but the manager and our waiter ( Talon ) made everything right. The food was delicious and will go back again! The entire family ( 9!people from ages 9 to 79 ) enjoyed everything ! And the have Monkey 47 gin!!
Thanks again for all you did
Service was poor, a cold quiche was served and we had to chase a server down only to wait another 20 minutes for the dish to be replaced warm. There was no attempt to compensate in any way.
Food was delicious. Waiter was attentive to my food allergies. Noise level was low which made it comfortable for talking with dinner mates.
We made a reservation for 7:30pm Christmas Eve through OpenTable, however we did not get seated until 8:20pm! The hostess was not the friendliest and seemed to have an attitude when asked how long it would take to get a table. Our waiter admitted to being the busboy because they did not have enough servers. I ordered the berries and spinach salad with chicken - the chicken was served on a separate plate and was very dry. The club sandwich that my husband ordered was nothing spectacular. The food was not all that given the prices.
As can be expected on Xmas Eve, the place was bustling.
Had a reservation, however has to wait about 30 minutes to be sat outside next to two dirty tables that never got cleaned.
Our server was great. I think our reservation was set for 6:30, weeks ahead of time, and we weren’t sat for almost an hour. They were out of all the Holiday specials. The food we got was great and the service was fast but having had a reservation and then having to wait almost a full hour to be sat was a bit ridiculous. And it wasn’t just us. We checked in at the same time as several other parties and they were all waiting way beyond their reservation time. It was Christmas Eve so of course, they would be busy but considering it was all reservations they did not plan very well and that was disappointing.
It was Xmas Eve and our reservation was for 6:30 but we did not get seated until 7:30. However, the bouillabaisse was outstanding and our server was pleasant and efficient.
Mixed feelings. Waited 15 minutes before server (Talon) came to our table. Service was subpar. Server disappeared multiple times- watched him chat it up at another table for 20 minutes. All of our food was great (steak, scallops, pasta). Only has issue with the grouper. It was overcooked and tough. Would have sent back but server was no where to be found. Such a shame because the delmonico was fantastic. With all the choices in downtown St Pete I’m not sure if we would go back.
Poor service, opportunities to rectify but not one time was that done. Many flaws with service and management. Missed the boat and reflected in tip. Food good.
Service was poor. The waiter was more focused on the waitresses and hostesses than taking our order. An item didn’t get rung in, each of our meals came out at substantially different times (the last meal arrived at the table over ten minutes from the first), and our waiter disappeared for multiple stretches for long periods of time. We couldn’t let him know we would like drink refills, that multiple orders didn’t arrive, or that we were missing an item.
Service was excellent from the server, not so much from the management.
One person at the table found the chicken accompanying his salad wasnt edible- it was chicken jerky, very dried out. I verified.
Apparently the manager also has to verify prior to dispatching the kitchen to make replacement chicken, and while they follow their diligent process to ensure no one gets anything they aren’t suppose to get, they ultimately have a guest waiting, without food, while everyone else finishes theirs. It WAS chicken, I’m pretty good at cooking up chicken breast myself so this whole situation was inexcusable, especially the response from the manager.
We live downtown here and we certainly won’t be back to Cassis.
We came here on recommendation from a friend and were not disappointed. There is a wide variety of choices on the menu which should satisfy everyone. I had a very nice cioppino. Our server was knowledgeable and very engaging. An extra bonus is their bakery next door that makes delicious, flaky croissants.
Nice looking restaurant, service was very good. The menu looked exciting and interesting, however the food was a bit lacking. A nice place for a drink and an appetizer.
It was fine. We went for brunch as a group. Made a reservation through open table for outside but when we arrived the hostess’s said there was no reservation. I pulled the reservation up on my phone and showed them and two of them told me it didnt matter that they didnt have the space because they had a party coming in. After an exchange, the 3rd hostess told the other two that they could make it work. Side note, the reason we made the reservation for outside was because we had our dogs with us not just because we were being bratty.
From there we sat outside. The server was really barely “okay”. They obviously had him on inside and outside tables and the poor guy was running back and forth like crazy. We ordered mimosas and the orange juice came in a wicked dirty glass. They kindly exchanged it out.
Food was pretty good. I got the avocado toast and it was delicious. A friend with us split the cheese danish with me but we werent able to cut it with a knife so we ended up having to tear into it with our hands. I will note that we didnt try it as soon as it came out of the kitchen so it very well might have been warm enough to cut at first but after about 5-10 min of it being on the table we definitely could not cut it.
We finished our food but we all still had bloody marys and mimosas on the table half full. The server came back to the table but without even asking if we wanted to check out he pulled out his machine and asked us how we wanted to split our checks. We like our brunch so we all would have likely ordered another round but apparently they needed the table or something so we were just pushed out.
The friend I split the danish with gave the server $50 on a $40 tab and he never came back with change. She most likely would have left $8 as she always just tips 20% no matter what but after sitting there for a while after we finished our drinks I guess he just decided he deserved 25% instead haha
Really it shouldve been 3 stars but I was feeling nice.
Nice location. Friendly staff. Food well prepared. Nice location. Friendly staff. Food well prepared.
Don't miss their cheese plate! And visit their bakery next door to take home dessert after a most filling dinner.
Cassis is a wonderful restaurant. The food is creative and nutritious, the service is prompt and friendly and the ambiance is great, inside and outside.
Not something I review on often however our service was exceedingly slow.
I think we hit it on a tough night as the boat show was in town and they were very busy. That said, our server came across as rude. The plating was sloppy. The dinner came out just as we started the salad. In short, service was pretty bad but food was quite good
Great service and great food as always. Our favorite restaurant in St Pete.
Way to loud ,table so small, server nice but not there.
I would say overall it was ok, I reserved a seat inside and at the last minute I was taken outside, I specifically asked for an inside seat because I was with an elderly person who really couldn't move all that well. I guess it was because of the holiday but they didn't even address it, food was ok but when I went up there to get it, I had to ask for the waiter to get plates and refill the food.
I'm thinking you folks didn't expect that big of a crowd. Waiter was pleasant with a good personality but clearly overbooked.
