Cartwright's Modern Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
My Valentine had the salmon which she describes as decadent. I had the trout and was by far the best I have ever had! Desert gelato and sorbet was soooo good. This the place to go in the area. No pretense, come as u are and enjoy. The martinis 🍸 are superb. Yes, this THE place.
My husband and I had been wanting to try Cartwrights for a while and we were not disappointed! The staff is friendly, the food was well prepared and delicious, and the ambience was great. Highly recommend Cartwright’s to anyone looking for something a bit of the beaten path.
went for an evening meal after shopping all afternoon. love the ambiance and the beautiful bar. we had the stroganoff and the pirogues which were both great. next time will try a burger or steak which also looked good at the table next to us. haven't had an old-fashioned in a while and loved the Cartwright's OF.
We went for the sushi and sashimi. Been there previously and enjoyed same. Same true for last evening, fresh and well prepared. Service was attentive and not overbearing.
Wine is a bit pricey but selection was good.
All in all we had a delightful birthday celebration. Thanks for the chocolates!
Enjoyed my dinner and wait staff was great. A bit disappointed when the first table we were led to was right next to the kitchen and wait staff area. The restaurant only had a few patrons in it so there were plenty of other options. When I asked to be seated elsewhere we were led to a totally empty room at the back of the restaurant. When I asked again for a different seat I was told fine. Sit wherever you want. When we left there were still only a few groups in the entire restaurant. Made the whole experience less pleasant.
But our waitress was great and I enjoyed the bison stroganoff.
I had taken some friends for a new year celebration because it was my favorite spot for steak. At the last minute, and no shot to get reservations else where I am told I will be receiving a tasting menu at 75.00 per person. Not happy at all. I am not sure if I will be returning to Cartwright's again in the future.
My NY steak and accompaniments were excellent. By review of the regular menu, however, I feel like the restaurant is trying too hard to offer trendy food, when it's reputation and success was built on more traditional fare. An offering or two of Sushi or seafood would be fine, but those items seemed to dominate. I didn't select a starter because nothing was appealing-immediate loss of $8-12 per cover. Suggest polling your customers, if that wasn't done, to gain feedback about preferences. Clientele always seem to be median to older crowd, so I would be surprised if there were a high number of sushi lovers.
Great ambiance, however the reason we picked this restaurant was for the trio, and they were out of venison. Slightly disappointed about it, but the restaurant had a real neat southwest vibe and our server was great. All in all I think they are a few dollars overpriced but it wouldn’t prevent us from going back.
We have been eating at Cartwright’s for many years. It is a very authentic Western bar and grill. Excellent cuts of meat and first rate sides. (In a previous life, they were noted for their seafood in addition to the grilled meats. I wish that would return......). In any event, they do
serve the best steaks in Carefree/Cave Creek in a very pleasant atmosphere .
Hadn’t been to Cartwright’s in a while and while it was better than the first time it still wasn’t worth are Drive. There were very few people in the restaurant and they were out of the chicken. The Steak Tartare was fair, and everyone’s dinner was fair to good. Didn’t stay for desert. The Wine was good but has a 3X mark up.
This is our first visit under the new owners, although we have been coming here for 15 years. We stopped coming several years ago when the previous management did a complete overhaul of the menu for no apparent reason. This change was not good at all. The place was always full, and it didn’t take long for the diners to disappear. The menu change made no sense at all, probably why they ended up selling the place.
Unfortunately, I don’t know if the new owners are going to do any better. This was a Saturday night and the place was not even a third full. Nothing we ordered had a wow factor, as a matter of fact; my wife’s octopus special was overcooked and rubbery. I told her to send it back, but she didn’t want to complain. So when our server came by to ask us how everything was, we gave a gratuitous “Fine.” I’m not familiar with the chefs now, but if you can’t cook fish properly, you should probably find another business. I don’t think they will last long. We won’t be back.
