Chef Kyle is incredibly talented and passionate about his work. The food was simply delicious start to finish. The presentation was beautiful! Highly recommend!

For our anniversary, we ordered the 5 courses prepared by the chefs. The chefs and waitstaff described each course and accommodated any personal preferences. The cocktails were superb. The view was amazing. It was such a special evening for us.

We had a simply marvelous experience at Cara! The multi course 'surprise' tasting menu was superb and inventive, starting with the bounty of the sea and culminated in a beautifully prepared local lamb! The Sous Chef Kyle Palmer and Exec Chef Jacob Jasinski not only care about cuisine, they really look after their diners' entire experience. I had mentioned I was gluten free when we booked, and they served up a perfect experience - even the desserts from Pastry Chef Sarah were fabulous! My husband was impressed with both the depth and breadth of Cara's wine list (he reads them like novels!) and enjoyed the well matched pairings. Service was impeccable (thank you George!) and the view and ambiance make this a perfect special occasion spot... but the dining experience was so good it would make any day a celebration - why wait?! We just wished we lived closer to Newport - we'll be back next time we are on the East Coast!
From start to finish one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It was a complicated and surprising menu in terms of flavor that was done using straightforward ingredients and techniques. They truly cared about our experience from start to finish and if it wasn’t a three hour drive away, I would be back next week. For a special occasion in the area, this is the place you need to go to. You won’t regret your experience, top notch yet comfortable from beginning to end. While the menu will always change, I hope the level of cooking doesn’t because it was wow after wow.
We were celebrating Easter and a Birthday. Harry was our waiter. He was extremely attentive to all of our celebrations. We had a delicious meal and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend. The jazz band and scenery of cliff walk set the mood finely.

It was a nice meal, but overpriced. Service was okay and they allowed a dog at the table next to us that smelled and was jumping. Not what you would expect when spending $400+ for brunch.

We've had tasting menus from NYC to Boston. This is one of the best we've ever had. And it was a great touch to have the chef come out and talk about each course. A wonderful experience that we plan to repeat.

We had the pleasure to visit Cara yesterday for a special date night (we have a baby girl who was born 5 months ago). Let me tell you, I was very impressed and pleased. We booked a surprise 6 dinner course, and we enjoyed the experience from the beginning to the end. We were sit in a separate room. The decoration of the room it was simple but elegant. It had a chandelier in the middle of the room, a big mirror on the wall and a serving table below it. Giving the room a vibe for romance. The tables were nicely spread, due to COVID-19 restrictions. Were 3 couples in the room. The experience started with an explanation from what I believe was the manager. He gave a little background story on Care and how it started at the Chandler. He explained how it was going to happened that night. The Amuse was made of reddish, the look was attractive to my taste, but I wasn’t impressed when I actually tasted. The Chef will come and introduce each plate in each course. There were two plates that the Chef shredded some black truffles in front of us, it gave each of those plate a boost to those flavors. The service starting from the hostess and ending with the waitress was phenomenal. We felt very special. Every detailed in the restaurant was well executed. There is a saying that says: “you get what you pay” but at Cara we got more that what we paired for. We had such a lovely night there last night that we would love to come back, but that time we will like to stay at the hotel overnight and bring the nanny to stay with the baby and book separen rooms to continue enjoying of what Cara and The Chandler can offer.

This is an expensive restaurant. We expected top shelf quality and service. Unfortunately, I have to report that we were very disappointed. We went to dinner on Wednesday nite. There really are 2 restaurants there. Cara is the fancier restaurant, there were only 4 tables occupied. There also is the Cafe in the enclosed courtyard, that seemed busier. For our restaurant, the meal is price fixed, $105 each plus tip. We had 3 drinks between 2 of us. There also was upcharge of $25 for the steak entree. The drinks were very good. The server was attentive. But the kitchen was VERY SLOW. We spent almost 3 hours there. The quality of the food also was lacking. We had to send back the gnocchi because it was so salty. In fact all the entrees tended to be salty and good but not great. With the less than expected quality as well as very slow service, it makes me think that perhaps the chef did not show up that nite and they had a substitute who was not on his game. But that is not what we expect when we book a meal at a restaurant that is supposed to be one of the best in Newport. I do have to say that they were gracious. The waiter and manager apologized profusely, and they comped the drinks and upcharge for the steak. But would we ever go back there again? Umm, no.

It was my birthday
We had the 6 course menu with wine pairing. It took so long to serve the food(one hour for the first course), the food itself was not good and extraordinary small portion. The service was really slow and not smooth. Even though we did not have high expectations, it was quite disappointing and it couldn’t meet the standards of a fine dining. The only good thing was the wine. Personally, I don’t like to leave a bad review, but this place really let me down.

Beautiful location, delicious food and attentive service.
Unfortunately, our food was very bland, with very little flavor or texture to the dishes... Almost like they forgot to taste the dishes before they went out. Plating was nice but so simple it really like they could have done more. They should look at a 3 Michelin star location like Quince in San Francisco. The staff seems like they have the ingredients and access to the resources but need to put more thoughtfulness in the execution and seasoning. It really is ashame because the location and the ambiance is truly second to none in the area.
Chefs Jacob and William favor bold flavors, and salt. The amuse bouche course, a kind of ceviche, did not work form me because the acid overwhelmed the fish flavor. Everything else was great: the soft shelled crab with sea grapes (! yes!) had intense crab flavor. Then pasta, like bigoli, soft and white, with peas and smoked duck in cream sauce with the only garlic flavor of the night, again, terrific. Then Alaskan King Salmon, cooked perfectly, slightly rare in the middle. Then the bread, a crusty bread and a Japanese kind of Parker House roll, mushroom butter, a full course in itself. Then the main course (!) smoked duck, with a flavor and texture I have not had with duck. Dessert was light, mercifully. The wine tasting was $125 with a white bordeaux, then chardonnay, then a rose, then a big beautiful California pinot noir, then ice wine and port. Bravissimo!
Exquisite surroundings with every effort to accommodate during these unconscionable times. Notable and varied wine list with good options for the single glass drinker - those whole bottle for the two of us days are over. We had the three items early sitting and our gourmand days are over, too - they serve a decent plate and we needed to save room for the dessert. Sitting is pre-paid with beverages extra and added. The environment is extraordinary and photogenic. I might guess there's a string trio during more relaxed and normal times.

Beautiful dining experience. Food was delicious but portion sizes were definitely tasting size. Service was outstanding and all the servers were extremely knowledgeable. By far the best dining experience in Newport or on Aquidneck Island. The only complaint I had was that the server stopped serving us water during the dessert course and didn’t refill wine glasses with wine still in the bottle. For the price, I would have expected we wouldn’t sit at all with empty glasses.
Cara's is exceptional in every way. The chef's tastings and pairings are meticulous and always amazing. A foodie's nirvanna! We have been enjoying the food here for 11 years through multiple chefs. The creativity, presentation, and service have all, and always been spectacular.
