Capisce - S. Lake Tahoe
We are a family-owned and operated restaurant, serving fresh, handcrafted Italian in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, Nevada! While we are famous for our Ravs (ravioli) and our "Gravy" (it's not sauce, it's GRAVY), all of our sauces, salad dressings, focaccia, etc. are made from scratch, just like Nanny and Papa Devincenzi taught! We say that our items are "Made With Generations of Love"...we are sure you will agree! We have a full bar as well as beer on tap! Come sit by the fireplace in our dining room, or hang out in our bar and watch the game! Our family looks forward to seeing you...CAPISCE?
Ravioli appetizer and bread was good. Main course of Shrimp Scampi was not very good. Shrimp was over cooked and hard, fettuccine was way over cooked and soggy, sauce was closer to Elmer’s White Glue. Wife’s Rice Bowl was tasteless.
The food was terrific. Our server and her teammates were exceptional. We thought this would be just another Italiano restaurant but it was by far one of the best we have even visited.
Great birthday dinner
We had a delightful and filling meal. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. We couldn't resist dessert and enjoyed it, despite being very full already.
We had a wonderful dinner. Food was excellent. Service superb and a very charming and genuine ambiance. Highly recommend.
Our server was excellent and so was the food!
Had the veggie pizza with a caesar salad. The pizza was great. The salad wasn't very flavorful. We had a large group and ordered a few bottles of wine. The cost of the bottles was reasonable. Would definitely go back.
Food was excellent, atmosphere good. Our waitress, blond girl, don't remember her name was poor. She'd walk away from the table as we were talking to her. She said they didn't have cappuccino when we asked. Then asked another waiter and he said they did have it. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back.
Very nice pasta dishes....we had lobster capenelli(?) which was the best dish of all----delicious creamy sauce with pasta and nice chunks of lobster; raviolis with porcini sauce (their house specialty) and crispy eggplant parmesan with linguini ( same sauce as raviolis) and we shared a wedge salad. The only thought I had was that there was a little too much sauce (porcini). The lobster dish's sauce was outstanding!
Really delicious homemade pasta dishes. Fun to go with a group or as a couple
Restaurant was very loud. However, our main issue was the service. Specifically, we waited a little too long for someone to come to us. We ordered an appetizer to be followed by a salad and then our main course. The salad and appetizer came at the same time, then our main course came before we were finished with the salad and appetizer. Our waitress never came by to check on us. Instead of a leisurely dinner we were in and out in less than an hour. Unfortunately this is the type of restaurant that does not pace the dinner properly. Food was good. Questionable whether we will return.
We really enjoy coming here - our 2nd time- good food
Mama s food is always consistent and delicious. Raviolis are exceptional as is everything else. Love the staff too. So sweet
Great service ! Very fast ! Great food !
We have been here several times and the cuisine has never failed. The homemade raviolis are outstanding. However I have to take one star off due to staffing. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait 10 minutes just to be greeted at the door. The servers seem to be doing all jobs: hostess, waiting tables and bussing. Plan on a leisurely dinner here.
First of all, this is the most authentic Italian food I’ve had since visiting Italy. The pasta (especially The Rav) was perfecto! The artichoke chicken was delicious. We asked, and the menu is based on Grandma’s secret recipes. I hope she’s passed them down, because we’ll keep coming back
My overall experience as a single diner was good. I was quickly seated, but there was a little delay in the server making a first visit to the table to take drink order. The "rice ball" appetizer was very good, with a very crunchy exterior and creamy textured rice inside. The "capisce" red sauce served with it was perfect for dipping. The eggplant parmesan had a similar crunchy crust. The portion was "normal" - that is to say not ridiculously huge. It had their regular butter and garlic linguini, and there was enough of the red sauce to enjoy with it if desired. Wine list is ample with good variety. The pour was generous. I would return if in the area.
Great dinner with spectacular food.
As a party of 12, we had great service and the food was really good. Appreciate the ability to make reservation since this we were celebrating our mother’s 89th birthday.
Great service, huge entrée selection, really good food.
The food was amazing! Service was great as well. The homemade raviolis were the best I have ever had
Service was very slow
First time I've been to Capsize on a Saturday night--tables too close together; noise level unbelievably loud. After ordering dinner, the waiter said it might take an hour to get served because of the crowd (we had made reservations by phone for 6:30 p.m. in order to attend a concert at 8:00 p.m. which was only a few blocks away. Actually it took 50 minutes to be served our food. The concert started before we were able to get there.
The eggplant parmigiana (one thin slice which was rather dry) was about the worst I've ever had. Also, the kitchen switched the side dishes we ordered. The first thing we ordered was wine to sip while we waited for dinner--but even that took 20 minutes to get to us. Our server was a very polite young man who did his best; I think management is probably to blame for the problems we had.
Please train your wait staff about the importance of being educated on special dietary restrictions of your customers. Be positive that when you say something is gluten free that it really is. It makes a huge impact on someone with a food allergy if they get it wrong
Incredibly noisy - large open dining room with huge families created very noisy environment. Food was okay.
Love this place and so has everyone we have taken there. Pasta is homemade every day. Ravioli and Lasagna are to die for! Everything else is great too!
Service great, noise level somewhat loud, salad was great, both my husband and I had mussels,
clams, scallops over pasta . We have two different sauces. Both of the seafood was dry like it was
cooked and sat on heat until ordered.
Terrific birthday dinner!
Reunion with family!
We look forward to eating at Capisce every time we visit Tahoe. Best food and great service. Raviolis are my favorite, so fresh. Hubs loves the lasagna. Our adult kids loved the rice bowls, fettucini and linguini. The fried eggplant was delicious too! Can’t wait to return.
Chill and great styl. Great food, it was for our last dinner if our vacation. Friendly host. Recommend!
My family and I were on vacationing on Lake Tahoe and had heard good things about Capisce. We went there on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant did not seem too crowded. However, it took over 10 minutes for us to be seated as no host/hostess was working that night and it looked like they were short-staffed. The appetizers were good, but we had to send one entree back as it was over cooked. The other entrees also had store-bought pastas as sides that were not cooked well. So, the food proved to be somewhat disappointing for us. It might be that the restaurant was just having an off night, but we hoped for a better dining experience after hearing that the restaurant had really good food and was family-friendly.
What a cute restaurant! The ravioli's were amazing! This is a little hidden gem.
The food was very good and tasty. I had the veal with risotto excellent.
Good food and nice atmosphere, though louder and less romantic than I remembered it. The waitress was new to Italian food terms and she was game to learn about special dietary issues, but she was very friendly and helpful and made sure we got what we needed. Nice place.
Very good food. Good menu. Average prices for food. Good prices for wine. Good wine selection.
The food was not as expected. The ambience was fine and the place was busy but I was expected better quality pasta.
We have been to Capisce four or five times and are never disappointed. This is a must go to place every time we visit Lake Tahoe.
This has a "fairyland" quality...great ambience. Our waitress was wonderful and so was the rest of the staff.. It was happy hour and the happy hour wine was great!! We were surprised. The food was good.
I had the lobster pasta....lots of lobster and great sauce. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs and didn't like his sauce as well. The pizza was very unusual and we didn't care for it. But cinnamon roll dessert with vanilla ice cream was delicious!!!
