Welcome to Capisce Italian Food and Spirits!
We are a family-owned and operated restaurant, serving fresh, handcrafted Italian in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, Nevada! While we are famous for our Ravs (ravioli) and our "Gravy" (it's not sauce, it's GRAVY), all of our sauces, salad dressings, focaccia, etc. are made from scratch, just like Nanny and Papa Devincenzi taught! We say that our items are "Made With Generations of Love"...we are sure you will agree! We have a full bar as well as beer on tap! Come sit by the fireplace in our dining room, or hang out in our bar and watch the game! Our family looks forward to seeing you...CAPISCE?

Capisce - S. Lake Tahoe Ratings and Reviews
So glad Capisce S. Lake Tahoe was recommended. We had driven by for years and did not know it was there. I had the Original Ravs and they were fabulous! My husband is not a fan of mushrooms, but he said he would get something with the "gravy" next time. He enjoyed his meal as well.
It was the first time we went to Capisce's. My husband got the pasta trio and enjoyed the Pesto Chicken and Original Rav's, but the lasagna was just okay. I ordered the Lobster pasta dish and the lobster was chewy. I wouldn't order that again, but the Rav's were incredible.
We've been searching for some authentic Italian food in the area and, while there are some good options, this one was really tasty. My husband had the lasagna and I had the lobster pasta and we were both very happy with our selections. Our server was super attentive without being obnoxious and we really enjoyed our evening there. Would definitely recommend.
This is my second time at this restaurant The first time the service was awful but food very good. It was my sons birthday so we decided to try it again. Same thing. There was only two other tables occupied!! They only have one waiter which causes delays in getting anything within a reasonable time. Won't go back.
It was a warm day in Tahoe and it seemed that they did not have air conditioning or it was not working, it was very warm inside the restaurant.
We ordered the risotto balls for an appetizer and to us they were very salty so we sent them back.
The entree was good, the ravioli were excellent.
Food was great. Service slow, but food all fresh. Wasn't happy with the billing. Had a gift card and they ran it b4 allowing me to tip, so they wouldn't let me put the tip on the card. They also wouldn't allow for my late request of the 10% discount offers by my hotel, because they had already ran my card. Maybe because most customers are tourist they don't feel the need to go the extra mile to make the customer happy.
It was Friday afternoon and I was looking for a restaurant that took reservations for my family since we didn't think ahead. My wife and I both stumbled upon Capisce while looking at options at separate time. The menu looked kid friendly (6 and 10 year old kids) and had numerous options that we would eat. We made a reservation and headed to the restaurant. When we arrived we were seated promptly in the, nearly empty, restaurant. We began to think that maybe it wasn't very popular for a reason but we were wrong. Apparently, we were just early as the restaurant filled up while we were thoroughly enjoying our meal. First things first, the homemade focaccia was worth the trip by itself! Second, the kids pizza was so big that my kids could have shared it and still been full. It was a shame that we were staying in a hotel and couldn't take the leftovers with us. The only "negative" that I would give is that it took a little longer than I expected for our meals to be served. Please remember that I had 2 kids with me that were "starving". That said, I highly recommend Capisce for any occasion and we will be back the next time we are in Tahoe!
The staff were welcoming and the service was good. Our issue was with the food. I had the scallops with risotto. The scallops tasted like the frozen kind you would get from Costco. The Risotto was more like a rice pilaf then risotto. My wife had the shrimp piccata over fettuccine. The dish was so lemony that it was bitter to the taste and as a result was nearly inedible. We were looking for a restaurant with Italian cuisine. I suggest you look elsewhere as we do not recommend.
Not a fair review, since we didn't a actually get in (our OpenTable reservation wasn't honored, and we wouldn't wait an hour, as we were already told the kitchen was running an hour behind as well). But staff was far from apologetic, and this place is far enough off the beaten path (with too many good alternatives nearby) that we won't be going back.
Their bread is great! That was the high point. Very good foccacia. The tomato bisque was good. The pizza was okay, nothing special. The linguine and clams alright. The tiramisu was good. The kitchen seems to take awhile to get the food out to you (even though it wasn't busy), so plan accordingly, luckily we didn't need to be anywhere. Service is fair. Friendly, youthful, non-professional staff. The dining room is dark and warm, some ceiling fans would've been welcome. This place has the potential to be something with a little attention to detail and fine tuning.
Overall excellent food and pricing. Had dinner with friends there over the July 4 weekend, so the place was jammed and noisy. Had a few big parties there. Service was good, we ended up sitting in the bar Area as the main dining room was too loud. The table ordered all different things from pizza and pasta to scallops and salads everything was done nicely. this is a good out-of-the-way spot away from the hustle and bustle of the casino area.
Wish I could review the food, but sadly the service was so abysmal (except for the bartender), we walked out before eating! Was there to celebrate Father's Day as a family and selected the restaurant based on reviews here. Unfortunately, it did not live up to its billing. After moving from the bar area (where the bartender was excellent), we were seated at our table and promptly ignored. We sat there for 15 minutes without any acknowledgement from a wait staff member and watched another, larger party get seated at their table and have two different servers approach them, bring them waters, kids menus, then additional menus and then drinks. After watching them have multiple points of contact from staff, we decided to cut our losses and leave! We won't go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone!
This was probably the worst dining experience I've had in the Reno/Tahoe area.
We walked in as the hostess was seating the people who had come in just before us, never to return. We waited about five minutes before any of the servers who continuously walked by the hostess podium even acknowledged us.
One finally did and told us she could seat us, but they were out of menus.
When we went into the dining room, there were 5 empty tables and a couple four tops, and one bigger party (maybe 6 people). We waited. And waited. And waited. After about 15 minutes of waiting (and watching two others get seated- with menus!) we decided we should probably leave. It was then that a server came up, asked if we had been taken care of, and dropped off some menus. First of all, how are there not menus for every seat in the restaurant, and then some?
Finally ordered from a girl who was out of breath and hurried through her hello I am so and so speech and was told that there was a big party ahead of us (the six top??) and that our food may take awhile. That's fine, totally get that. Just wonder how they estimate that when there's maybe 4 other tables and the restaurant isn't busy.
All the other tables got bread. We waited and finally was given some rock hard, bottom of the barrel focaccia bread.
Our appetizer (artichoke dip) came and wasn't bad. Then our entrees. My fiancé got the chicken fettuccine with a whole 5 slices of chicken in it. I got one of their special salads and half way through it wondered why I needed to pay $19 for a basic salad with chicken. Just all very basic, nothing special.
70 dollars later, I wished we had gone anywhere else and gotten food for half the price with better service. We probably should have talked to a manager, but I don't think there was one there, nor did we even have a chance to talk to our server to ask for one.
Overall, we won't be back and if anyone asks, sadly, we won't recommend this place.
This was our third visit to Capisce. The menu has lots of authentic italian pasta options. I had the risotto artichoke chicken... it was outstanding. I don't like my risotto too soupy, and this risotto was perfect, more rice-like. Great staff and a beautiful atmosphere! M
The evening was exceptional. Brian, one of the owners, was welcoming and made us feel we belonged there, and were honored guests. He was outgoing and exuded positive energy, as always . Our waiter was engaging and we had a long, fascinating, conversation with him, ranging through a series of subjects. Not intrusive at all; just available and interesting.
The ravioli sampler plate is always wonderful, as it was this night, and this evening we split a pizza, which was one of the best that I have ever tasted. Drinks were exceptional as well, and the shots are a generous pour.
What more could one ask for?
