Capisce - S. Lake Tahoe
We are a family-owned and operated restaurant, serving fresh, handcrafted Italian in beautiful South Lake Tahoe, Nevada! While we are famous for our Ravs (ravioli) and our "Gravy" (it's not sauce, it's GRAVY), all of our sauces, salad dressings, focaccia, etc. are made from scratch, just like Nanny and Papa Devincenzi taught! We say that our items are "Made With Generations of Love"...we are sure you will agree! We have a full bar as well as beer on tap! Come sit by the fireplace in our dining room, or hang out in our bar and watch the game! Our family looks forward to seeing you...CAPISCE?
Tue–Sun 5:00 pm–10:00 pm
Service was so and seemed clueless when it comes to costumer service but after the food arrived it all changed and the food is awesome
Always a pleasure to dine here with family and out of town guests!
Great food and great service! Will definitly be back!
Exceeded my expectations! The food was exceptional!
The food and service have always been wonderful. Tahoe always come back whenever we are at
Second visit to this restaurant. First visit even though we sat in the bar was very good and made us want to come back. Second visit, made a reservation, were immediately seated and that was the last thing done promptly. Drinks were not good, table next to us came in 10 mins after and where served and finished before our meal even came. The food would have been outstanding if served properly but came lukewarm (no point in asked to reheat since we where already so frustrated). The bill was given a slight adjustment but overall very disappointing. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was very full.
Great family run restaurant with authentic Italian food. Busy, very local, nice break from the casino and big hotel restaurants. Pasta was very fresh, good!
Excellent Restaurant ...All employees very friendly. Food was delicious! Will definitely go back when in the area!
Four of us for dinner. Tha lasagna was a pitiful mix where one could not distinguish what was what. The veal piccatta was a small, wiry piece of meat. Staffed portobelo mushroom was average.
The place is dark and unattractive. The wine glasses were dirty, had to be returned.
We asked if there were specials that day... we were told that there was enough in the menu...
Capisce? is not worth driving to. The perfect place if you like poor food with service to match.
We ordered the Lobster Campanelle. It is an expensive dish - $32. The lobster must have been frozen. It was tough and lacking in taste. The wine we ordered was not available and we substituted the recommendation - a $36 bottle with a screw top. The overall meal was ok and it was certainly NOT worth the price nor was the wine.
We love Capisce and try to go back whenever we are in Tahoe
While the food was delicious, it was over-priced for pizza and ravioli, and the service was not very attentive. There was no hostess and both bar tenders ignored us for quite awhile before someone came to seat us. It did not get much better as the meal progressed. It is what locals refer to as "on Tahoe time". The restaurant was not busy at all so there was no excuse.
As always the food is very good but the service seems to be slow. It seems like they don't have enough cooks in the kitchen because it took an hour to get our meal.
I'd been to Capisce? before with my parents and extended family and we'd all enjoyed it. I went with my parents this time, plus my husband who'd never been, and unfortunately we were all underwhelmed. The caprese salads were good, as was the actual pasta in the pasta dishes. On the recommendation of the waiter, I had the lobster campanelle, and it was delicious. My husband had the cheese ravioli with pesto sauce, which was more of a cream sauce with a little pesto flavoring, but tasty. My mom and dad, however, were disappointed with their dishes. My mom's lobster ravioli were overwhelmingly salty. My dad got the trio, and the spicy sauce was swimming in oil. We were there when it was still light out, and I noticed that the windowsill that was directly in my eyeline was very dusty. Finally, the service was nice, but not super attentive. Since Capisce? is one of the few restaurants in town that takes reservations, and based on the positive review we had the first time we ate there, we'll probably be back. We all commented that we hope our experience was because the regular kitchen staff was off for Labor Day.
First time visitors and we're very picky. Had a lovely meal, great food, was not rushed service was there when you needed them. We'll be back
Yummy, comfort food and friendly vibe. Ravs and the Italian Wedge salad were delicious! Dessert chocolate mousse lasagna was fine, not sufficiently flavorful to stand out . Staff is quite friendly, unfortunately our waiter wasn't fully trained on the menu and wasn't able to answer some simple questions well. The gravy and bolognese sauce were just a bit spicey hot, and had a bit more kick than typical mainland Italy sauces. They use a light touch with garlic. If you are very sensitive to mildly spicy food (as one of the members of our group is), let a knowledgeable waiter know and perhaps you can choose something milder than the lasagna.
This restaurant has grown in popularity and quality since its early days. Located in a bit of an out of the way spot, it is worth the trouble to find. The meal my wife and I had was excellent right down to the desert. Because this is a restaurant with an Italian name, I thought the tiramisu would be a good choice. Wasn't! But don't let that scare you away. Everything else is outstanding, Italian or not!!
The food and service were excellent. (However, we had reservations for 5:30). Everything went very well and we enjoyed ourselves so much we will be back even if the service takes a little longer when they are busy.
Some of the best zitalian food we've ever enjoyed!
Amazing dinner and great service. Beautiful restaurant. All the staff was so courteous and attentive. My friend and I had scallops au gratin with risotto and it was wonderful. It’s not touristy but a lovely, quiet dinner location. Go!!!! I can’t wait to return.
Capisce is one of our favorite places to dine in Tahoe. We have a home here and have been many times and they have high quality Italian food. The only issue with this restaurant is that it is frequently understaffed. With this last visit, we waited about 15 minutes to be sat even though we had a reservation. No one even spoke to us for the first 10 minutes we were there. There were only 2 waiters working all the tables that night and 1 bartender. They didn't have a hostess to seat us. It made the experience feel pressured and rushed as we wanted to get our food orders in fast and had to think quick about what to eat/drink because you were competing for your servers attention. Water was slow to be filled and drink orders took some time to place too. However, the food is always great and there is a good selection of wine/drinks to choose from. If only they could get enough staff sufficiently take care of their guests, I would give 5 stars. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this has happened and makes me think twice about coming there for dinner.
Food was excellent service a little slow BUT all pasta dishes are made to order the food from the salad to dessert was perfect outstanding food
They have expanded their menu since we were there last. Loved the new menu items. Everything was delicious.
Love this place. We make a point of eating here every time we are in South Lake Tahoe. Yum!!!
The best thing about this restaurant was the waiter. Food was not good and fairly expensive. Wanted to like it but with 7 bad meals, cannot give it a passing grade.
Amanda was great as a waitress. The food took forever to come out. We got there at 6:30pm and didn’t leave until 9:15, not by choice, especially with a 5 and 7 year old. Food was excellent.
This was the worst food and service we have ever had. They forgot to put our order in and then they didn’t have what I wanted. Over an hour later they gave us the most terrible food. The lobster ravioli was mush in this soupy sauce. My sons butter noodles were soaked in butter and my eggplant was discussing. We couldn’t even eat the food. They never sent a manager over or took anything off our bill. We will never go back there.
This was our first time at Capisce. We had a group of 9 celebrating my husband’s birthday. Many tempting dishes. Our friends loved their artichoke chicken and my steak and mushroom over risotto was outstanding. Our waitress Sarah was efficient and friendly. She even brought my husband a birthday dessert and the wait staff sang Happy Birthday. Would definitely come here again next time we are in the Zephyr Cove area. Highly recommend you try it too!
Service was a bit slow (but very friendly), but other than that, everything was delicious.
Nice restaurant but I don’t believe they have air conditioning. It gets very hot and humid which made the meal less pleasant than it should have been. Started off with the tortilla soup which was really salty, so I wouldn’t order it again. Ordered the trio because I couldn’t decide which dish I wanted. The chicken pesto pasta was good, the raviolis and lasagna just fair. Ironically, when I reheated my leftovers the next day I mixed everything together and it was delicious, much better than the original meal. I’m not sure about the rolls? To me they were just blobs of dough that weren’t even cooked all the way through. If I were to return, it would be on a cool day and I would try a different entree.
Great food and enjoyed our waitress Amanda. Nice gal and very accommodating.
No host waited 10 minutes to be seen. Service was slow and foid was sliw to come. Our waiter was nice but clearly he was new and had not been trained in basic service skills. Food was inconsistent. Raviolis were good but very little gravy. Veal parmigiana was tough and not real flavorful. The chicken dish was burnt overcooked.
Was really looking forward too old italian cooking and “gravy” like my family in Italy makes. Not so much so.
Hopefully, If I try again, I will find it was just a bad night...?
Food was mediocre and overpriced
Noise level was quite high, hard to carry on a conversation.
The check-in hosting needs a little improvement. We stood there and stood there waiting to be acknowledged. Finally someone came up to us and asked if we've been helped. This is the first impression of a restaurant and not be acknowledged was a little off-putting.
The food was absolutely delicious and our server very nice. The food came to our table piping hot and with ample servings.
Not the restaurant's fault, but it is extremely noisy and somewhat difficult to carry on a conversation without having to lean in to hear each other. We visited one time during the winter when it was less crowded and it was much more appealing. This visit was during a busy summer weekend. We will be back when there's less tourists.
Wonderful food and atmosphere.
Great staff and very good food!
My sister and I spent some time in Tahoe this past week and found this little neighborhood gem. We shared our food and each had a glass of wine. Best waiter ever. They had zughetti on the menu which is zucchini and yellow squash with bolegnese sauce. It was amazing and met our reduced carb need while still enjoying a fabulous meal. Our server was charming and attentive. He was young and we were amazed at how well he did his job. We tipped him handsomely and wrote and appraising note on the check. And the house Pinot Noir was delicious too. Don’t think you’ll be disappointed here.
Capisce is our local Italian restaurant. In the past the menu remained the same forever, and became stodgy. We decided to give it another try, and were very pleased with the experience. They have added many more interesting things to the menu, and what they prepare has always been good, so it has returned to being a destination restaurant again. The bar at Capisce is the coziest bar in the Tahoe area, and a great place to chill, winter or summer, and the bartender is great.
Great little family-owned/operated restaurant!
