   A fantastic meal in a fantastic setting. A beautiful Kohala sunset to enchant us. Our server, Dean, was outstanding and very accommodating to allow for our eclectic approach to mixing, matching, and sharing various dishes. Terrific advice on available dishes, and the sommelier gave great guidance on some options for wines to match. The food was excellent all around. All on all, a WONDERFUL setting and wonderful experience for our anniversary dinner. Thanks to all for making it both fun and special!

   CanoeHouse was a true dining experience! The outdoor open air tables provided unobstructed views of the ocean with just enough spacing between dining parties to provide for private conversation and a certain level of intimacy. The food courses were all fabulous and the service was excellent in every aspect. However, expect some amount of sticker shock as the prices are steep.

   Outstanding meal at the Canoe House. Went with a party of 7 of us to celebrate a 94th birthday though most of us were in our 50-60’s. Was seated right away at a round table with stunning views. Billy, our server was fantastic. He started the evening out with a round of cocktails in the mai tai I got was probably the best mai tai of my life, not too sweet, perfectly mixed. Then we ordered several starters, including the edamame, Sushido peppers, and then proceeded to get other dishes, such as the grilled hamachi, Wagyu Beef, a few salads, and a few specials that the chef made for us upon our request from previous visits by the locals I stayed with who have gone multiple times. We also opted for several tasting menus at $155 per person but in our opinion, it was worth it because the food quality was amazing and there were seven (7) courses that we were able to share. Finally because we were celebrating aunties 94th birthday, they brought a special dessert for her. I thought it was so ingenious that they cover the candle with the glass so that she could actually blow it out without the trade winds blowing it out for her. I don’t understand why other restaurants don’t do that same thing by covering the candle with a glass - super smart. We ordered several of the Panna cotta desserts with coconut and lilikoi(?) plus the flourless chocolate cake. It was just an outstanding evening. Highly recommend you go just be prepared to spend money $$$$ and if you go where are your best aloha style. It is so worth the experience. Aloha and Mahalo.

   Beautiful location right by the ocean . Service is good. Prices are pretty high, $36 for a glass of Chardonnay , food is no longer what Canoe used to serve. The chef is Japanese and although his food is delicious it is more of a “modern cuisine” so , one should check the menu beforehand if you look for classic dishes . My scallops and foie gras dish was good but not for everyone’s taste. For these reasons I will not return .

    I've lived on Big Island for 18 years. The Canoe House is likely the best restaurant on the West Side of the island at the moment. The food is high quality and the ambiance is outrageous. Just so folks know it is also likely the most expensive place as well. Well worth it for a special occasion.

    You cannot beat the ambiance here. Beautiful location on the island and it is simply gorgeous watching the sunset. Too bad for us the food was only subpar. We started with the Beef and Foie Gras Gyoza and Shokupan Pull Apart Bread. Both were good but nothing to write home about. Our biggest disappointment was the Local Fresh Catch (Mahi Mahi) and Prime Tenderloin Steak. Both were practically flavorless and a bit dry. We paid $300.00 for some good Garlic Fried Rice and a sunset. Let down.

    They seated us at a table then asked us to switch tables due to poor planning on their side (even though we had a reservation). Tasting menu was certainly not worth it. They had us wait 30 minutes for the dessert course just to find it was no longer available. Over $500 for two people.

    Excellent food, service and ambiance. Prices are high but fair considering the location and quality. As good as Manta, the now closed Alan Wong’s and Kaua’i Ono (at its best) our dinner was some of the best food we have had on the Islands. Ono.

    Lovely place. fantastic service, great ambience. Quiet, respectful diners. The oysters were absolutely delicious. My hearts of palm salad was unusual and very good. Everything else was “meh” —— my catch of the day, my husbands chicken, the mai tais. My husband loves to order steak (filet mignon or ribeye) when we eat out. However, when the least expensive steak on the menu is $94 / with no potatoes ( those are $24 extra) we just couldn’t stomach that (pun intended). We had eaten here several times before — in 2017 and earlier — and loved it. Not so much now - the menu has become pretentious and the food WAY overpriced.

    Honestly I haven’t dined since auberge took over. Had such fond memories of canoe house, had to try. I love the outdoor seating area. We were seated on time. Recommend cocktail for me by waiter, I didn’t really enjoy. But that’s okay. Menu was good and typical Hawaiian prices, we decided to do the tasting menu as it was different and unique. Really enjoyed the first 2 courses, taro and crab, chicken next, great flavor but pieces to large for chop sticks. Then opakapaka fist main course, was fine but nothing special. Main dish of lamb chops, flavor of the crust was great, but chops so tough. Not worthy of 5 star restaurant, dessert chefs choice, coconut panna cots with strawberry and coconut topping. Nothing special, not much flavor. Our waiter was very distracted, we waited for 25 min for our check while he chatted with diner. The bus person was delightful and knew more about the food than our waiter. Nice to view the sunset. But not one dish did we say “this is amazing “. I’d give it total 7 out of 10. I’ll go back to four seasons where everything is delicious and excellent service.

    Great service!! Got the tasting menu, which is honestly not a lot of food. It was delicious though! Quiet, and perfect ambience. They were accommodating to substitutions and had a nice sunrise desert at the end, even though when I called they said they did not do celebrations!

    What can we say, had a glorious evening, enhanced by the BEST table literally in full view of a fabulous sunset and surrounded by dear friends. Evening was made complete with a few of us opting for the Chef's Tasting menu with supporting wines and terrific desserts. This is a special occasion location and leads to a memorable experience you should save for celebrations of life and unique moments. Additional surprise of meeting Jane Seymour who sat next to us and we shared some stories about various Big Island activities of interest. She is a dear and extraordinarily gracious.
