Love the staff at this wonderful restaurant. New chef is very creative and his wife is extremely kind and friendly! Completely professional!
Had the tasting menu--great food. Would have been even better if properly coordinated with our drink orders.
CanoeHouse is my favorite fine dining experience, special green flash view at sunset
We had the five course dinner special and every item was delectable!
Wonderful venue under the stars! So nice to see it open again. Prices are high but the food quality is vert good. With all that is going on, treat yourself to a lovely dinner here.....
This Friday, my wife Julie and I had another outstanding meal at Canoe House. I told the manager that currently Canoe House was the best restaurant on the island. She thanked me and expressed concern about repeat local resident business once the other island restaurants re-open. My recommendation would be for the Canoe House to offer locals complimentary dishes and/or the typical 15% kama'aina discount.
First time to visit Canoe House since it became an Auberge property. We were very pleased with the ambiance, service & quality of food. Our server was Aulike, a true Hawaiian that knows how to treat her guests with an aloha hospitality. She went out of her way to serve us something that was not on the menu. (whole lobster). The chef prepared it to perfection!!
Cannot wait till the Hotel opens, we will definitely visit.
The food was fabulous. We had the tasting menu, which was a real treat. It included lobster, a salad, fish, a filet, and dessert. The portions were perfect and the flavors impeccable. The staff was attentive, but not intrusive. They did a great job making us feel safe with social distancing, disposable and QR code menus, and handling of dishes. The setting of the Canoe house has always been fabulous, and it is even more special with the new remodel. The wine list was pricey, but I expected that for a resort setting. It was a very special meal.
We dined here under the stars and both enjoyed the My Menu set menu option. It was a five course meal and each course was delicious! We will definitely return. Thank you Canoe House, a real treat!
The ambiance is spectacular. It is very difficult to reach anyone to make a larger party reservation it took me 3 days. Once I reached Lana she couldn’t of been more friendly and accommodating. The service was friendly and they really tried hard to make us happy. The food was good the deserts were amazing! The valet driver/ welcome desk was so welcoming and really he was the best first impression of the restaurant and hotel I give him 5 stars for service and attitude! He was very nice even wished my daughter happy birthday very professional!
It was wonderful to hear the Canoe House was open. The service was very attentive and excellent. The placement of table was rather odd given the huge area in which tables could be set up. They opted to have an upper and lower row which in the end felt on top of one another and was quite noisy when people were talking. Then way out on the edge of the lanai there would be three more tables closely set to each other. So much wasted open space needs to be reconsidered. The meal for the price left much to be desired. The 8 oz steak Filet was tender but that with a couple of cherry tomatoes cut in half was considered the meal for $56, no starch, no vegetable. When other upscale restaurants are working to retain business with decent portions and revised prices it seems Canoe House is not one of them.
This is the second time my wife and I have eaten at the Canoe House since it re-opened. The Japanese inspired cuisine, atmosphere, wine and beverage offerings are truly outstanding. For this meal, we tried the Shokupan Pull Apart Bread and the Roasted Head On Kauai Shrimp. The shrimp were juicy, served in a yuzu soy garlic butter sauce and cooked perfectly. The bread was fresh, hot and served right out of the oven. The bread is soft and the perfect match for soaking up the delicious shrimp sauce. The Canoe House is located ocean-front in the beautiful Mauna Lani Auberge Hotel. Currently, the Canoe House is the best restaurant on the island. Not to be missed!
Hands down the best dinner and dining experience on island right now
Excellent in every way.
Much needed gal time with one of my favorite people. We indulged with a trip to Canoe House. The beverages were great and the dishes we tried were each unique, multilevel flavors and delicious. Will be back for sure.
Canoe House is absolutely stunning, views upon views for sunset! It rained and we had to eat inside, but the inside is wide open so airflow was wonderful and views remained! Staff was the nicest, most accommodating staff I have ever encountered at a luxury restaurant. Food was delicious, but they have very small portions for the prices. I definitely recommend the Canoe House for any celebratory or special occasion! It feels very special!
Most special restaurant in Hawaii Islands. Food is wonderful even during this difficult time. It never disappoints.
This was our first time dining at CanoeHouse. Everything was top notch from the service to the food. We will be back.
Excellent location! Service was stellar! An amazing night!
The original Canoe House closed when the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel was sold and closed. The hotel and restaurant has since been thoroughly remodeled. The new hotel is the Auberge Mauna Lani. Unfortunately, the new hotel and restaurant had to close again because of the pandemic. But thankfully, even though the hotel is still officially closed, the Canoe House restaurant has re-opened for dinner Wednesday through Sunday. The restaurant is staffed by Ben (the hotel beverage manager), Matt (the chef) and Yuka (manager and Matt's wife). The cuisine is Japanese. Matt trained at the prestigious Nobu restaurant in Honolulu. The restaurant is situated ocean front and the views are spectacular. The food and service are outstanding. Presently, with all of the hotels closed because of the pandemic, the Canoe House is the only hotel restaurant that has re-opened. Also, every effort is made to ensure your complete safety during the pandemic. All customers temperatures are taken, the staff wear masks and gloves, and the tables are separated far apart. Customers are required to make reservations and wear masks. Canoe House offers the best romantic, fine-dining experience on the Big Island!
They take the safety pre-cautions very seriously at Canoe House. We had an amazing and safe experience. The food was inventive. The service staff was top notched. We will be coming back on a regular basis!
Fantastic dinning experience.
Food was superb, service outstanding and service exemplary. We celebrated our anniversary and Canoe House made it extra special.
We also felt good about their safety measures.
An amazing view, great staff! What a magical night, thank you!
Special occasion for my wife and I on the occasion of our 33rd wedding anniversary. We are locals and were very impressed with our dining experience. (Our grown daughter enjoyed the experience as well)
Excellent oysters and Kona Kampachi. Great wine selection. Wonderful desserts.
We were seated at 6:15 and did not leave until 9:00, too long for dinner. Took 35-40 minutes to get drinks.
It’s always relaxing to sit on the lanai and enjoy a nice dinner with the ocean view and sea breeze. The culinary experience is delightful and the service is friendly and unpretentious.
We were excited to go out and celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was our first time dining at Canoe House since it’s reopening (under new management). We realize that they have been open only a few days since the COVID shutdown however service could have been better. There seemed to be a lack of attention and disorganization by the staff and floor manager. The food runners were sloppy in their delivery and floor management seemed non-existent. The food was tasty and well prepared. There were maybe 10 tables and we noticed the chef greet all but our table during our visit. It was obvious that noting on Opentable that it was our anniversary was overlooked and not acknowledged by the staff or manager. We weren’t expecting anything extra but a “Happy Anniversary” would have been nice if not why put it as an option while making reservations. The floor manager carried on a lengthy conversation with the table next to us which was very loud and ruined the ambiance of the dining experience.
We loved every course served with the set menu. It was great being back at the Canoe House.
BEST LOCATION FOR A LOVELY DINNER ON THIS ISLAND!! TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT GO AND MAKE A RESERVATION!
We loved it! We are so glad that the Canoe House is open again. It is truly one of the finest restaurants on the Big Island.
Left Children at home and enjoyed a romantic special evening out. Fabulous service, incredible view and experience!!!
I proposed to my now fiancé right outside. A dinner I’ll never forget.
I think the tapas format is passe. You should serve regular entres.
I am a frequent dinner and have polled my friends who also agree.
This will be an infrequent venue for me.
The small plate experience was fun. Everyone at the table could sample the same thing. We ordered two or three plates at a time to pace ourselves. The bread, tuna poke, corn tempura, red snapper catch of the day, and filet mignon were all excellent.
When finished we sat by the bonfire and listened to the waves roll in. The setting is beautiful,
The CanoeHouse was a great experience. They had a good variety of options as well as some unique dishes. The food was very good and I recommend the pull apart bread to complement your meal. I thought the price was much higher than it needed to be, but I knew based upon recommendations that it was a higher priced restaurant.
Gorgeous setting and decor
Wonderful location and restaurant setup on a beautiful terrace. Great attentive service. Although We love Japanese food, it was not that good and definitely overpriced. The chicken skewer texture was spongy and not appetizing. The hearts of Palm salad had minimal flavor and the king crab was quite salty. The home made bread is very very buttery and not original in flavor or texture. Unfortunately, overall the food was overrated.
If you don’t mind spending over $300.00 for two on basically appetizers then you may like this place. It’s a tasting menu and an expensive one at that., twenty four dollars for some kernels of corn battered and fried.??? Never again, at least not with this menu.
Excellent food. Look over the menu carefully. Very high prices but amazing location. Try to arrive before dark.
