   There is MUCH better "Americanized" sushi in San Diego. Harney in Old Town is 10 mins away and so much better if your goal is creative rolls while still having high quality fish. My issue with Cannonball is the rolls are very one note, missing crunchy + saucy + soft + high quality fish. And very small rolls. Truly bite-size, smaller than grocery store sushi. While the view is unbeatable, the food is very meh. I am local and come every 12-18 mos to see how it is, hoping it's gotten better but it has not. In fact, it's on my do not return list. Also they could not regulate the heat lamp. Either an infierno or nothing. Windy, overcast, cool, May Gray evening when having some heat was mandatory. This is a pass.

   I’ve visited Cannonball many times and have always enjoyed the food and hospitality. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was disappointing. It took 25 minutes for a server to come to our table, and we were told there was a mix-up about who was supposed to serve us. While I understand that mistakes happen, what bothered me most was that the servers handling the nearby tables saw us sitting and waiting but never acknowledged us. A simple gesture like, “I’ll make sure someone is with you shortly,” would have made a big difference. It felt like no one really cared, and that was disheartening. Sadly, after this experience, it’s unlikely that I’ll return.

   Absolutely divine experience! 🌟 The view was stunning, with a breathtaking ocean view. I brought my friend here who’s visiting our city. Our drinks were expertly crafted and paired perfectly with our meal 🍹. But the real star of the show was the sushi - each piece was a masterpiece, with flavors and textures that danced on our taste buds 🍣. And the fresh oysters? 🤯 So bomb! We devoured every bite, and I'm still craving more. The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. Can't wait to come back and indulge again! 😋👌

   I hosted my graduation event here with a party of 20 people and it was perfect! Views were stunning and food was fresh and reasonably priced. There was some wind but the heaters did a great job at mitigating the chill. The server did an excellent job at hosting and accommodating our party. Would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion!

   This was my first time at this sushi restaurant. It had incredible views, great drinks, and food. Our service was very friendly and inviting. I will be returning again!!

    I’ve always appreciated Cannonball—not for its prices, food, or limited menu, BUT for its stunning view and relaxing view. Like many beachfront restaurants, Cannonball seems to justify its high prices with the scenery rather than the quality of its cuisine. Whether that trade-off is worth it depends on what you value most in a dining experience. As for the food, it’s mediocre AT BEST. The kitchen clearly aims to be inventive with its Asian-fusion concept, but the execution often misses the mark. The flavors lack balance, dishes are dry, and the creativity sometimes feels forced rather than thoughtful. I ordered the spicy edamame which was so spicy and dry it was unedible and the steak tataki which was also dry and lacked the ponzu flavor that it should have. Frankly, no dish on the menu is worth more than $24—and even that feels generous. At the end of the day, while the atmosphere and ocean view are undeniably appealing, the food needs to rise to the same standard. Until then, the overall experience feels overpriced for what you actually get.
