About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Romantic
  • Great for outdoor dining
The Tiki movement began in Hollywood, ca. 1934 with the opening of Donn the Beachcomber’s first restaurant. It was a movement that focused on large tropical drinks that usually included several kinds of liquors (predominantly rum) and “polynesian” food (a pan-Asian inspired menu, with a fair amount of fried options). “Proto-Tiki” seeks out the influences that led to the inception of the dominant cocktail trend of the 20th century by tracing the culinary heritages along the rum and sugar trade routes that developed the culture of the Caribbean and ultimately New Orleans.

Hard to find and WORTH IT!!! Delicious food, our entire party ended up sharing plates. The drinks were outstanding and the staff phenomenal. We loved everything, and we are generally hateful people. Five stars. Will visit again.

I Love the atmosphere of this restaurant and the food was very very good. I especially liked the three bean hummus.

I had one of my five best meals. Ever. It was worth the search to find it. Seriously, you need to try the rum ribs and the Brussels sprouts.

Server started out greeting our Happy New year! With ' well so far 2017 sucks'. Hmmm. Skirt steak was bland and tasted like something from a crockpot and no spices. They took it off bill after I saw server complaining about us to her manager. Never again

I and my friends ventured out to New Orleans to welcome 2017. ‘Had reserved a spot for this place thinking we’ll get max of ~30 bucks a meal based on the online menu. Instead, we were given prefixed meals worth $45 (tax/gratuity excluded). Just went on hoping we’ll still enjoy the celebration and knowing that all other restaurants are fully booked within downtown. Overall: a) food was delicious but very pricey, should have seen updated price ranges on the online menu, b) not a fan of prefixed meals, wished there was flexibility on food choices and c) area is not well-lit, haven't totally enjoyed the experience...though thank you for that cute, welcoming lady with eyeglasses i was able to chat with from time to time...LOL! should have gotten her name!!!...she was working on silverware sets near the restroom area... :)

The space is stunning, the cocktails are divine, the food delicious and the vibe is fantastic. They were willing to work with my food allergies and served me a meal I will remember for a long time. I have a feeling this will become a regular spot for when we have guests in town.

Good food, nice staff, terribly long wait for food after ordering. Over an hour. And it wasn't that crowded. Too bad it impacted the night.

After waiting 1 hour for food, the scallops were disappointing and sandy. The chicken and rice and beans were great, though, but the place would be better just to grab a cocktail.
