About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Lively
Can Can is a French brasserie and bakery in Cary Court Shopping Center. With seating for over 140 in the main dining room, an Art Nouveau inspired private dining room that seats up to 60 guests or over 100 for cocktails, and a full-service bakery and pastry kitchen supplying all of its breads, pastries, and desserts, the restaurant’s versatility should provide the area an array of options and events.

Can Can provides nonstop service morning, noon, and night and looks to give the local neighborhood, businesses, and Richmond visitors, a home away from home, an office away from the office, a place of refuge, or a stage for celebrating with friends.

A Parisian-style steak frites eatery in a classic bistro setting with dark woods, tiles & mirrors.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Can Can Brasserie offers a charming slice of France in Carytown with "excellent French onion soup" and a "festive atmosphere." The staff is "attentive and friendly," while the wine menu and brunch options are highly praised. Despite some inconsistencies, it remains a "Richmond staple" for authentic French cuisine and delightful dining experiences.

Can Can is always a great experience. This time, I celebrated a birthday with friends. Each of us was pleased with our meals, which included salmon, and salade nicoise. Their bread is great, and of course, we had to have the profiteroles. Yum!!

The Caesar was overdressed and the moules frites was inedible. When the steak was brought out we didn’t have a steak knife and nobody came to stop by for a while. The bread was lackluster and the fries were cold. Overall a poor experience and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

Very, very loud. Filled with screaming kids which was disappointing and surprising. Wine list is atrocious. Do they not think that anyone wants to order a decent bottle with dinner. But the food was the worst part. Some of the seafood was surely frozen. All of it seemed a bit 'off' as well. I was just happy that we didn't get sick from it. Even the bread service, for which they charge, is no longer good. Service was non committal. We will never go back.

Always a superb experience at Can Can! Staff, ambiance, food, wait time all excellent! We both had the special mushroom and leek quiche. A generous portion with a huge side of fresh greens. Will definitely return!

My only complaint is that CanCan now requires half the party be present before seating you. Very corporate American philosophy. No French establishment would ever do this. A restaurant should trust its patrons that book a reservation and are at the restaurant are honoring the reservation. PLEASE DO NOT LOSE THE CAN CAN FRENCH INFLUENCE

Always an amazing place to have lunch. If there’s anyway you can get Emily as your server that would help a lot. She goes by M.

Nice variety of sweet or savory for brunch. Opted for the side of Gruyère Mac & Cheese and the Beet Salad for starters. Shared a Full carafe of Mimosa. Had the pancakes and bacon as meal. All was delicious. Friends had the Eggs Florentine and the Quiche of the day. All agreed it was good!

I always get the beef tartar and it’s delicious. Be careful if you’re on a diet because the bread baskets here are unbelievable. My friend and I devoured an entire basketball by ourselves. The squash soup was amazing. My friend ordered a roast beef so much and he was blown away.
