About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Romantic
Enjoy an easy laid back elegance with whole new point of view. The Graduate Charlottesville rooftop bar and restaurant celebrates its homegrown roots and colorful past, basking in a hint of farm life folklore and charm. A range of homespun small plates and fare to share are designed to accompany friend-filled rounds of drinks. Dishes feature local producers with a keen focus on native Virginia agriculture and wildlife. The menu, an homage to heirloom plants and Thomas Jefferson’s commitment to seed collecting and exchange to preserve homegrown varieties, keeps the table fresh. Fruit and plant-based boozy beverages (think Prohibition punch recipes and craft cocktails of the past) create memory-making get-togethers.

A modern view of time-honored traditions.

We sat outside and the was greeted with a panoramic view of downtown Charlottesville. While the menu was limited we still found entries that we all liked. We ordered the cheese board and wings for appetizers. For dinner we ordered spicy chicken sandwiches and the special Tri-Tip steak. With the exception of the steak the appetizers and sandwiches were excellent. I would rate the steak special as good because it seemed more like stewed meat than grilled. There was an issue with service at the start because our waiter was inexperienced and the place crowded. We mentioned the issue to the Executive Chef Jason and he assigned a waitress (name started with Pat) who was attentive, efficient and did a great job. For our trouble, Jason showed that he valued our patronage and actually comped our meal and provided dessert (New York Cheesecake and Death By Chocolate Cake) that was over the top. If it wasn't for the issues I have outlined I would have rated our experience 5 stars. We will definitely go back since this restaurant showed they truly care about their customer's experience.

It was a great place to see the city. The menu was not the same as online so we only had an appetizer and a few drinks then went and got dinner elsewhere. I’d recommend calling for their menu before going.

The weather must have affected the restaurant significantly as we were seated in a banquet hall/ballroom in the hotel instead of the actual restaurant as we expected. The six person tables were lined up as if it was a cafeteria or high school dining hall. I wasn't sure how they would handle the rain, but I guess that was their solution. It seems that our server was filling in for someone else as she did not know much about the food, had on someone else's name tag and pretty much ignored us after taking our orders. I don't know what ascribe the problems with the food to, except it may have been prepared by hotel staff rather than the restaurant. The prime rib was cold. The burger was extremely small and difficult to locate in the bun. The risotto was very salty, possibly because of the very small amount of crab and large amount of ham. This was not what I expected at all. I had read very positive reviews and had been told by friends that the food was really special. Unfortunately, this was not our experience at all.

Obviously overbooked the night we were there. Ended up at (essentially) card tables in a ballroom while the “prime” restaurant space was vacant with “reserved” cards on the tables. Will NEVER go there again

We went for a mother's day brunch buffet. The service was absolutely wonderful! Everyone who worked there went above and beyond to help my family. But the food was not anything special. The eggs did not taste fresh and the vegetables were not flavorful.
