This was my 2nd visit. It’s refreshing to note that the bad Service hasn’t changed. Same great food. Beautiful interior. Great happy hour. But the staff continues to gather at the bar and chit chat with the bar tender and not do their job. 15 min to get my first drink. No apology. Just there to socialize.
We live in the neighborhood and love having this restaurant as an option, but our last experience was not great. The valet was terribly backed up. Then it took more than 10 minutes to speak to the hostess to confirm our reservation. Finally seated we were given one menu (that was covered with salsa and guacamole) to share between the four of us. We were each given a half glass of water and the bottle did not stay on the table. The only saving grace of the experience was that our waitress Elizabeth was amazing!
Great food, great service and cool ambiance. Love this place!
Came here for a Saturday date night with my wife.
They provide complimentary valet (always a good sign in my opinion). When we informed the hostess of our reservation they tried to put us at a table directly in front of the entrance, we requested a different table and they politely accommodated us.
I didn't get our server's name, and she was difficult to understand but, she provided excellent and expedient service.
We started with the Queso Flameado, which was basically a skillet of melted machego cheese, queso oaxaca, chorizo, pablanos, and mushrooms. It came with flour tortillas and it was delicious. It is a VERY filling appetizer so, consumer beware.
For entree, I had the tacos al carbon which was three flour tacos with beef, tomatillo sauce, carmelized onion, and house-made cilantro sauce. It was a simple and tasty dish.
This establishment has terrific authentic Mexican food. Definitely worth a visit.
Good margs, good food, nice ambience, not too loud but energetic. Happy Hour here is great!
The ambiance with the Latin American music was really nice and we appreciated the possibility of sitting outside. The food however was very disappointing...the beef fajitas salad was average, beef was way too salty. My husband took the octopus which was extremely chewy....we hadn’t been back for at least 6month but as food was not impressive ...we will not be back :-( sadly as we really live just a few blocks away...
The restaurant seating is tight, and the noise level is loud. The waitress couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear her. This resulted in her bringing me the wrong dish, but she fixed it quickly once I flagged her down. If it's this loud I need the waitress to speak up. The pork carnitas were delicious, and there is a big cocktail menu that is hit and miss. The place was modern and crowded on a Friday night. I probably wouldn't bring kids. Overall it was good but you have to be in the mood for a loud dinner.
Good was good. Waitress was just fair.
Calle Onze is my favorite spot in the heights! Real Mexican food with an upscale feel! And absolutely delicious!
The waitress was Great, the food was Great and great atmosphere, overall a great time.
Very authentic food. Drink program is on point. Service is fantastic. Dining room is very load but that would not keep me from returning.
Overall great meal. The restaurant is too long ud. Something should be done about acoustics.
This is the second time it took over 20 min to get drinks. Too noisy and warm inside. Food tasty.
Drinks are good. The place is too noisy. Oysters were delicious, but they come to the table with wood chips still burning on the plate where it smokes and it’s not pleasant. We quickly put the hot oysters on two other plates and sent back the smoking plate as it was smoking the restaurant and tables near. Everyone was bothered by the smoke looking at us. We ordered tacos al pastor was not good (too fatty), the server made it right by replacing quickly with beef tacos, which were delicious. Out food also took just short of an hour to get for 8:30 reservation.
This was my second time coming, the first time I sat outside and I felt like we weren't getting enough attention with our drinks and our orders, but It was a very busy night. The second time I went I went earlier and we had a lot of attention to our table. The food was great both times, I LOVE the queso, the fajita salad, the tacos, and the drinks. Honestly, it was all very good and I will definitely be coming here again for the drinks, chips, and queso.
Truly unique dishes, unusual fusions. Both innovative and traditional dishes. Love the food
The place is beautiful!!! Good service but the food doesn’t stand out from so many Mexican restaurants in Houston,
Good atmosphere, but loud
Food was average. Watch your bill. Server tried to overcharge for drinks. Kitchen etiquette wasn’t sanitary. Saw a server blow out a dish that had a fire on it with her mouth then serve it. Won’t be back.
This is by far a great restaurant with good to the point service and amazing drinks. As long as you don't mind waiting for them to kill the cow, catch the fish, or to grind the corn for tortillas then it is excellent. By the way that's a way for me to be funny by saying it's a long wait to get super fresh wonderful food. 4 of us stayed for 2.25hours and had three appetizers, four entrees, two desserts and 9 drinks. We weren't disappointed with any of the flavors or the service. The wood-fire oysters are to die for. Just be prepared to wait for your food.
My photos would not load so I am unable to provide visual reference.
The food was great, lots of interesting choices--a little on the high side for Tex-Mex--but all good. We had great service. Very friendly waitstaff. It's a beautiful, fun place, but screaming loud. That gets old fast.
The food was not good at all, like TGIFridays of Mexican.
Great menu. Great layout and patio.
Very unfriendly hostesses. Very slow server. Very loud dining room (loud music).
I splurged and ordered their $37 "rib eye" that was 40% gristle. What a joke.
Enjoyed the outdoor seating which was quieter than inside. The food was fabulous as always!
We had a wonderful dinner and great service, but the noise level was very high. It was very loud. It seemed the music was too loud and that forced everyone to elevate the noise level.
Service was a little off initially, but ultimately they got it together. Food was outstanding...brussel sprout quesadillas, were unique and so yummy! The patio was perfection!
The recipes for our enchiladas were bad (verde enchiladas were nearly inedible for me). Chips and salsa were good. I understand from their hostess that a new chef and menu is forthcoming. ¡Es un buen idéa!
Service was not good. Food was ok nothing amazing I send my food back
Neighborhood gem with great food, friendly service and nice ambiance!
Way too loud and horrible service. We had a reservation but it wasn’t ready for an hour then the service at the table was bad and super slow too.
The queso was too thick and cold. Kind of chalky. The fajitas were great. Nice flavor and tender beef
We went for date night and it was perfect. Great drinks, great recommendations by our waitress, great food, great ambiance. We will definitely be back!
Have eaten there during the week and had a pretty good experience. The place was like a zoo at the weekend though. Wait staff were overstretched and the food was below par.
This is the worst service I've experienced at a restaurant in a long time. I was surprised to see this is the same owners as Edison and Patton because we've always enjoyed our meals there.. Anyway, we were seated pretty quickly since we had reservations, but downhill from there. The waitress took 10 minutes to acknowledge us. We ordered drinks (and a mocktail for me since I'm pregnant, the waitress never mentioned it would be the same price without alcohol)... The drinks took another 15 mins to come out. We ordered the queso and wanted more chips, had to ask 4 times to 3 different people. Took about 45 mins to get more chips? We didn't get them until AFTER our entrees came out and the queso was cold. We had to ask twice for a water refill (took 30 mins to get more water) and constantly had to remind our waitress that we ordered another drink. She kept forgetting it and finally brought out the margarita when she gave us the bill? We ordered it when the food came out, so this took way too long. Also my husband had 2 margs and felt no buzz and my friend felt no buzz after 2 sangrias. To top it off, valet seemed to have lost our car and took a good while to bring it to us (we were the only ones leaving at the time so there was not a long line...) I was bummed because I was really looking forward to trying this place, but the horrible service, especially at this price point, will prevent me from ever going here again.
Great place, fantastic food. Only downside was that our waiter was terrible. Lots of energy in this place. Make a reservation so you don’t have to wait an hour.
Great restaurant with outdoor terrace. We had to wait for our food, but it was worth it!
Good food, awesome ambiance, even better salsa, complimentary valet, and the service was great. I will be back for dinner.
Our group of four was excited to try this place, since both the cocktail menu and dinner menu looked interesting. We arrived at our reservation time and were told our table was outside, though outside was not requested. We had to wait an additional 40 minutes to get an indoor table. This gave us a chance to try a few of the cocktails. The three we tried ranged from so-so to not good at all, so we went with bottled beers for the next round. The food was not bad, but was consistently bland. The servers were trying their best, but were overwhelmed. In my opinion, this restaurant needs to remove tables, even if means raising prices. The kitchen and staff cannot adequately serve the number they currently have. One of the staff mentioned to us that this happens regularly on weekends, so it seems it wasn’t a one-time incident. There are too many better options in Houston. And the sour-expressioned young hostess that couldn’t be bothered to utter a greeting or reply to a query when we entered didn’t help our impression.
We’ve been coming to Calle Once for the last couple of months. They opened great, but the last couple of visits have left a lot to be desired.
This visit stood out due to its very poor service. We arrived to about ½ empty dining room and patio. Sat at 3pm. Chips in table by 3:02pm. No water or server greeting for over 10mins. When she finally arrived, she just said “do you want to order anything or need more time?”. At this point we were frustrated and almost left, but alas, did not.
She constantly saw our drinks empty, chips empty, salsa empty, and never asked if we wanted refills. Even on the margaritas which meant a bigger tip for her, we had to ask her for it.
We were seated next to their couches and those are filthy, they really need to steam clean them, or at least get some fabric cleaner and clean them. They are in pretty bad shape.
When she dropped the check, we pointed out we’ve been coming for months and we didn’t get HH pricing on the margarita or starter we ordered. She literally had no response other than grabbing the ticket from my hand and saying “I’ll go talk to the manager” and then coming back and saying “today is the last day we are doing HH on the weekends so I adjusted it”.
No apology, no explanation why if this was the last weekend, why they didn’t give me HH pricing to begin with. Also, don’t present guests with menus that say “HH DAILY” and then get mad when they point it out.
We loved this addition to the neighborhood when they opened, but we won’t be back.
Worst service of any houston restaurant. It’s not even close
