Located in the Sorrento Valley, California English is the newest culinary creation from celebrity chef, Richard Blais. Blais is creating an all-day menu for California English that’ll interpret classic British dishes through the lens of Southern California ingredients.
The idea is a fusion of sorts: the laid-back California lifestyle that makes San Diego so unique, mixed with a cozy pub convivial atmosphere where you can meet friends (or mates) for a pint after work, set up a client lunch with fresh oysters on the menu or have a cozy family dinner over a Sunday roast. Everything on the menu is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients that make for fresh and flavorful dishes.
The effortless vibe of casual yet stylish makes for the perfect place to celebrate the joy of the unexpected coming together to make the perfect culinary match.

The wait staff was attentive and informative. We ate there for brunch and started with appetizers and drinks. Everything was delicious!

Our first time at California English was for their 2nd Anniversary party. Truly impressed with the food, atmosphere and entertainment, cherry on top was meeting Richard Blais!!! The fish and chips seemed to be popular not only with us but everyone else as well. The London Fog drink was delicious and fun!! Highly recommend this place.

Went to the happy hour. Menu offerings were good. Got the hot chicken scone and burger. The chicken scone had good flavor, nice heat, but subtracting one star on the food score since the scone was dry and tough. Could barely cut it with the knife. The burger was good but for a smash burger, no crispy edges like you’d expect. But the thick fries are out of this world! I’d go back just the fries! Fluffy on the inside crispy on the outside, served with curried ketchup. Delicious and unique! Servers were attentive and friendly. Ambiance on the patio was comfortable and relaxing. Cocktails were delicious. Overall a great spot for happy hour..

The quality of all of the food we had was exceptional, the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating and the ambiance is fresh, clean and relaxed; you feel like you’re on vacation there. Loved it!

AGAIN, California English did not disappoint! This was the best brunch experience by far! The appetizer options were amazing! We loved the finger sandwiches, especially the chicken curry, so good! Our favorite brunch entree was the crab cake benedict followed by the proper roast lamb. Both prepared to perfection. The celebration was even more elevated with live music and Easter fun and games for the kids. We really enjoy the experiences that are offered and the staff is always warm, friendly and efficient. Well done!

My hubby and I enjoyed happy hour, cocktails and dessert at California English. It was a date night for us and we were very pleased with our first experience dining here. And as a special bonus, I was also delighted to meet Chef Richard Blais. Highly recommend!
