Located in the Sorrento Valley, California English is the newest culinary creation from celebrity chef, Richard Blais. Blais is creating an all-day menu for California English that’ll interpret classic British dishes through the lens of Southern California ingredients.
The idea is a fusion of sorts: the laid-back California lifestyle that makes San Diego so unique, mixed with a cozy pub convivial atmosphere where you can meet friends (or mates) for a pint after work, set up a client lunch with fresh oysters on the menu or have a cozy family dinner over a Sunday roast. Everything on the menu is made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients that make for fresh and flavorful dishes.
The effortless vibe of casual yet stylish makes for the perfect place to celebrate the joy of the unexpected coming together to make the perfect culinary match.

Wonderful service from every employee we encountered. The space is lovely. We experienced their boozy tea offering and it was delicious. We will definitely be back and we recommend the espresso martini. It was balanced and not overly sweet. One of the best ones I have had in San Diego. Cheers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here! It was my husband’s birthday and he was so excited about the prime rib dinner! They informed us that it was going to take longer than expected so they comped us the delicious carrot app, and 2 mocktails! His meal was amazing and I loved my fish and chips! And he got a huge brownie and gelato for his birthday celebration! It was a wonderful evening!

My second time and God willing I will be back again. Both times I ordered the London Fog (swapped gin for vodka) and Fish & Chips and they were on spot. Brought 5 first times and they all enjoyed the food, ambiance and service. They mentioned coming back as they enjoyed the experience too. Hidden gem. I love being able to make reservations fairly easy and parking being plentiful.

The atmosphere is lovely, the food and drinks are delicious, and the service is friendly and attentive. I had a great experience coming here for dinner.

Ahi poke was okay. Fish had good batter but a little dry. Chips were decent. Saving grace was Jade our server. She was awesome!

Great atmosphere and I found that the servers and staff were so polite and inviting. The food was top notch and beautifully plated. I will have to come again with more time to explore the menu and appreciate more things. I loved the play on flavors and appreciation that each dish brought exciting new notes to be savored. Thank you for such a wonderful dining experience. I'll be back again.

I reserved a table for the Mother’s Day Brunch w/ Richard Blais. My mom and I love to watch Next Level Chef together and she’s always expressed an interest in going to one of Blais’s restaurants so I thought that would be a really cool moment to give surprise her with for her special day. Now, the food itself was great — the buffet had a lot of nice offerings and the main course dishes were really good, so were the drinks. But when my dad asked our server if Richard was still around, he mentioned that he wasn’t around for long that morning, and he had been on his phone a lot and probably got pulled away by something. Huh? That’s so lame. Why advertise a meet and greet if you’re not even going to be there for the majority of it? And it sounds like even if we did get to meet with him, it seems he likely wouldn’t even had been in the moment. I don’t regret taking my mom here for Mother’s Day, but I am disappointed and a little embarrassed that a major selling point of the experience wasn’t delivered.
