Best server experience EVER! The entire family enjoyed the hospitality and the lasagna was superb
We arrived early for our reservation and waited at the bar. After a glass of wine, the host came in to show us to our table. I ordered the salmon dish and it was delish. He hubs had the lasagna and the noodles were so light and just darn good. We also had the soup of the day minestrone which was a great starter. Service was good and atmosphere as well. We will come back when in SLO
Everything was top shelf, highly recommend
Nice setting and wait staff quite pleasant and helpful. A bit slow due to absent server and bartender. Absence was acknowledged and addressed when coffee overlooked and delayed. Handled very well. Beet salad was excellent and plenty to split. Ravioli was good but sauce better. Breaded pork chop was excellent and a substantial serving.
The house made pasta entree was excellent. The staff was very attentive, polite and friendly but failed to give us the requested separate checks so I was obliged to pay for the entire dinner. I ordered the wine and the waiter showed and poured it for my husband, any quality waiter should know who orders the wine is who should taste it for any defects, especially insensitive in this day! The cannelloni was way sub par, over cooked pasty chicken in two bland boring sauces.
A dinner out for the last night of a visit. We enjoyed the warm atmosphere with an attentive waitstaff and a traditional European “white tablecloth” vibe. Our food was well-prepared and presented. Reminiscent of the family-owned Italian restaurants from way back — when a nice dinner out was always Italian.
Very fun and good experience. Food was great.
Service was impeccable. Appetizers were great, had Escargot and Salumi and cheese platter. Entree was hit and mis. The Oso Bucco was delicious, the pizza with broccoli rabe and sausage was good. Lasagna was ok, Cannanoli was ok, Scampi was good, served with mashed potatoe...wish it was noted on menu, I was expecting pasta. The taglateli with Bolognese was horrible, tasted like Chef Boyare D. I had to return it. Deserts...Omg the lemon sorbetto was the best. Canolli was good as was the rum cake. The mouse was bot a favorite at the table.
Service staff could use a little training on service and responsibility. Food is OK and the atmosphere is pretty good. Cost is a little high for the quality of food.
Food was average. Not bad but not as good as expected. The place felt a little industrial and not very intimate. This is an OK place to eat in but not if you are looking for something special and definitely not a gourmet experience.
It was okay, but we expected a little more. My wife and I each ordered their shellfish linguine (lobster, scampi and mussels) The scampi was skimpy, with only one each on our plates. And we thought the salad was rather small for the price. While the food was tasty, we were somewhat disappointed. We've had better experiences here on previous visits. This was possibly due to the Valentines Day crowd.
Valentines Day, they were very busy but the pasta dishes were tasteless, ordered the beet salad and they used canned beets because we could see the ridges from the can and the salad lacked flavor too. My husband had the short rib which he liked very much but the carbonara was tasteless. Not sure we would go back. Our waiter was really nice but I don’t think they were prepared for the crowd that night.
Food and service were great! We don't usually go out on Valentines Day night because of crowds but they did a great job spacing their reservations and did not try and crowd more people into the restaurant..it was set up the same as any other night. And we were not rushed. Very nice evening.
We reserved our table online, and received a confirmation. We were seated promptly and courteously. It was Valentine's Day and the restaurant provided a Valentine's Day menu. The food was very good, and the service was excellent. It was our first time at Cafe Roma. We left very pleased and we will return.
Even though we had a reservation, we still waited for about a half hour.
Service was spotty, food however was excellent
We had high expectations, based on reviews. However, 2 of us ordered veal entrees, which were very tough and chewy. Our server, Chris, was absent more than he was present, and when he came back, he had forgot our wine, said he kept losing his card. Nobody even commented that most of our veal was not eaten when they removed our plates. Won't be back.
Excellent , waiter Danny was a gem.
My girlfriend and I went for our anniversary. I made a reservation easily online, service was awesome and the food was great! Very happy with Cafe Roman.
Pasta special with shrimp was outstanding as was French Onion soup special.
Food and service are always top notch, will be back again.
Excellent food and service. Very enjoyable atmosphere.
Amazing dinner with family... Sharon is amazing! We’ll be back!
Another year and another Restaurant Month visit. Cafe Roma is one of our favorite places to eat and go out on a date to. The service is always great and the food is delicious. We went with friends and had a great time.
The angus carpaccio is just plain delicious and the french onion soup was good but nothing special.
The veal osso bucco was just amazing. tneder and flavorful. The tortelli al funghi was good too. In my opinion too much filling, which ate a little dry but overall a good dish.
The creme brulee was really good and the tiramisu was good.
Overall you can't beat the service and taste. For $40 for the three courses/person, it was too good to pass up.
Whether on a date or just wanting great Italian food, definitely give Cafe Roma a try. I just wish we could afford to come here more often.
I had the prix fixe menu while my husband had a shrimp dish. They were both fabulous. Love this local gem!
Our family has going to Cafe Roma for over 30 years and it is always the same, GREAT.
Probably the best Italian in SLO, my girlfriend and I came here on our anniversary. We had a reservation for 8:15, and although we were seated relatively quickly upon arrival, after we were given menus, it took about 30 minutes for the waitress to return and take our order. Despite this long wait to order, the food arrived very quickly and the Tortellini di Zucca was absolutely delicious. The Ravioli di Cassa was also quite tasty but not as noteworthy. The dishes were affordable and the atmosphere was authentic, would
Café Roma has been changing. One time the food will be great and the next time very questionable. Locals are starting to wonder what's going on. Some regular items are now being charged for such as the olive oil ,parmesan and garlic for dipping that came with your bread. Now you have to ask for butter or olive oil. Noise level and not enough wait staff have been the most recent complaints.
Sorry guys, but you are losing our group for now.
Wonderful food. Warm environment. Great service. Authentic dishes.
One of my long time favorite restaurants in SLO just seems to get better and better. The food is excellent. The service is top notch. The ambiance is quiet, comfortable, relaxing. Just an all- around feel-good place.
Best Italian food in my life .
The filet Mignon and the seafood salad special all award winning.
Customer service was also excellent with giving us timed meals and not rushing us or all the food at once.
We celebrated our 23rd anniversary. We ordered from the prix fixed menu, which is a special for 'restaurant month'. Great value, wonderfully satisfying food, generous portion, included dessert. It is also nice to see families, often multi-generational gatherings. Cafe Roma is a place for the traditions in life.
We went to Cafe Roma in New Years Eve where they had a special menu. The wait was short. The waitress was clearly swamped but always checked in with us, and delivered our food promptly. She did an excellent job on very busy night. Food was delicious too.
Our service was horrible which was very disappointing as we’re local and have been there often.
The bartender, Jeff, was great! I stopped into the bar while waiting for my table to be ready and Jeff really made my night. The food was incredible. I had Burrata e prosciutto over arugula and the margherita pizza. It was not the typical Americanized, processed, "fake" Italian food..much more authentic.
Food was good but little details lacking when food was served - tomato piece on salad disappointing, not enough oil and no balsamic. The sole had little sauce - was excellent with sauce but too dry and not as tasty with so little sauce. Not as great as we expected based on prior experience.
We enjoy celebrating our wedding anniversary every year at cafe Roma. The food, service and wine list are exceptional. One of SLO's nicest restaurants to experience with family and friends.
Our server was amazing, super knowledgeable & pleasant.
Great Christmas Eve Dinner! We were quickly seated and the meal was great!
A perfect restaurant. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The food is as good as anything I have ever eaten.
Always our go-to place for entertaining friends, and for special occasions. The best food, immaculate service, and quiet enough to have good conversation. On a weeknight, the chef entertained a special request (pasta limone) and it was delicious. It is our favorite Italian restaurant, not just in SLO, but in all of Central CA.
I made reservations online, easily, on a Monday night. We arrived and our table was ready for six. The menus were well described and specials explained by the waitress. Some entries have a 1/2 portion price, which is great for children. The dinners were more than adequate in their amounts. Two of us had the specials, fish dishes, which were delicious. The Italian pastas were homemade and also delicious. I had the pasta with wild boar, also excellent. One had a gluten free dinner. We shared a bottle of wine, which turned out to be about the same cost as three glasses, so a better exchange. For dessert, we had creme brulée, flour-free chocolate cake, apple strudel, and a chocolate flan. Everyone was happy with the meal. As it was my birthday, they brought out my creme brulée with a candle and there was no charge for that. In all, the dinner cost less than I had anticipated for the six of us. The restaurant is family run, has two rooms, rather sparse decor, red curtains and with tables and straight chairs, no booths, and everything seems to be focused on service and the outstanding meals. While I put the noise level as moderate, it may be that with my impaired hearing I evaluate noise more critically than it truly was. I was able to hear everything at our table.
